00:00Out West, a judge sentenced a California doctor who sold ketamine to actor Matthew Perry in the
00:08weeks before his death. He is the first defendant to face punishment in the case. Ketamine is a
00:14powerful anesthetic that can cause people to hallucinate. 44-year-old Salvador Plasencia
00:19arrived in court to learn his fate. He pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution,
00:24admitting he illegally sold the Friend Star 20 vials of ketamine, even texting another doctor
00:30about, quote, how much this moron will pay. The judge hit him with 30 months in federal prison,
00:36saying Plasencia fed Perry's addiction for personal profit. Perry's mother, Suzanne, and stepfather,
00:42Dateline's Keith Morrison, sat in the front row, both delivering emotional statements about the
00:48loss of their son. Asked by a reporter after court if he agreed with the judge's sentence,
00:53here's what Morrison said. Does it matter? No, not really. Look, it's a tragic story,
01:01and, you know, sometimes apparently nice guys do that, but the legal system has to take account.
01:07Four others charged the case will be sentenced in the coming months.
01:11Perry died in 2023 from the acute effects of ketamine. He was 54.
