'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert blasted the president for trying to "poison American democracy."
Transcript
00:00For him to cast a dark shadow on our most sacred right from the briefing room in the White House,
00:06our house, not his, that is devastating.
00:09Stephen Colbert is blasting President Donald Trump for trying to quote
00:12poison American democracy with his false election claims and pleading for Republicans to speak up.
00:18Colbert's The Late Show came after Trump made a speech Thursday in which he repeated claims
00:22that the election was rigged. Visibly upset over Trump's speech, Colbert said on his CBS show
00:27that Trump stated quote nonsensical stuff and lied to the American people.
00:31If you did not know that Joe Biden was getting close to 270, Donald Trump just provided all the proof
00:39you will ever need. Though Colbert says Trump's behavior is predictable, he argued that the
00:43president needs to quote get a new act. According to the host, we all knew he would do this,
00:47but then an emotional Colbert paused while at a loss for words.
00:51What I didn't know is that it would hurt so much. I didn't expect this to break my heart.
00:58The Late Night host then pleaded for Republicans to speak up and reject what Trump did in that speech.
01:04For evil to succeed, all that is necessary is for good men to do nothing.
01:14He said Republicans need to choose what side they are on, that of Donald Trump or the American people.
01:19This is the time to get off the Trump train, because he just told you where the train is going,
01:25and it's not a passenger train, and he'll load you on it someday too.
01:29With Republican leaders such as Senator Mitch McConnell declining to comment amid Trump's fight,
01:33Colbert said the American people will keep note of who remains silent and who speaks up against
01:38Trump's claims. He just attacked the thing that makes us most great,
01:42and it is time for you all to mean what your hats have been yelling.
