00:00Stephen Colbert is calling out Democrats following President Donald Trump's primetime address to a
00:04joint session of Congress. Following Trump's speech on Tuesday, Colbert went live on CBS's
00:11The Late Show. And while the host took aim at a number of Trump's claims, he also had a few
00:16things to say to Democrats, a number of whom used props to signal their opposition to the GOP
00:21president. The Democrats came ready to fight back with their little paddles, okay? That is how you
00:28save democracy by quietly dissenting. He went on to say this. Or bidding on an antique tea set. It
00:35was hard to tell what was going on. He continued, I'm just kidding. That was very cool, Democrats.
00:40In fact, I made my own sign. He also called out Democrats for wearing fuchsia clothing to protest
00:52Trump's policies that will negatively impact women, as well as bringing props like a whiteboard and
00:56pocket constitutions as a way to stand up to authoritarianism.
01:00That, my friends, is how you stop fascism.
01:04In the immortal words of Martin Niemöller, first they came for the trade unionists,
01:09and I pulled out a pink blazer and a mimeograph. Take that, Adolf.
01:13But he did have praise, veiled in a joke, of course, for Texas Representative Al Green, age 77,
01:18who was escorted from the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms after he shouted his objections
01:22to Trump during the speech. Colbert said, some people questioned why so much muscle was needed
01:27to remove an old man with a cane. It turns out it was for a serious reason. When security searched
01:31him, they found that he had smuggled in a spine. As for the president, Colbert called out his
01:38misleading claims, like about how dead people are receiving social security payments, and mocked him
01:43for struggling to pronounce the names of some African countries. Overall, though, he seemed to view the
01:48full speech as a waste of time.
01:50So there you go. Another two hours, we'll never get back.
01:54I would like to apologize to our audience for making them watch it.
01:59That's time you all could have spent with your family not eating eggs.
02:02He concluded his monologue by saying this.
02:04In the end, Trump's first address to Congress was much like his first six weeks,
02:09filled with useful lies and applauded by useless idiots.
