00:00CBS is ending The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May of 2026.
00:04Next year will be our last season.
00:07Colbert broke the news to his audience at a taping on Thursday.
00:19Yeah, I share your feelings. It's not just the end of our show,
00:23but it's the end of The Late Show on CBS. I'm not being replaced. This is all just going away.
00:29Earlier this week, Colbert had spoken out against Paramount Global settling with President Trump
00:34over a 60-minute story. In his monologue Monday night, he said the technical name
00:38in legal circles for the deal was Big Fat Bribe. The bribe was a reference to Paramount's pending
00:44sale to Skydance Media, which needs approval from the Trump administration. In a statement,
00:49Paramount and CBS executives said the cancellation was purely a financial decision, adding it was not
00:54related in any way to the show's performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount.
01:00This week, The Late Show was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show
01:05for the sixth time. Look, I think Stephen Colbert, I think it's a huge loss for Late Night and I think
01:10it's a huge loss for CBS. And I think, you know, I started my career at CBS. I was there for 10 years,
01:17and I think it's a very sad day for CBS that they're getting onto the late night race. I mean,
01:22it's, they're turning off the lights after the news. I love Stephen Colbert. I'm looking forward to one
01:30way or another, being in constant contact with him and hearing from him, you know,
01:37in all his glory. Why though? Why did they? They just cut NPR and, you know, public broadcasting. Yes,
01:47they're trying to silence people, but that won't work. Won't work. We will just get louder.
