00:04The tech giant on Tuesday released the first episode of Oprah's Book Club,
00:08its latest move in developing original podcasts tied closely to its content ecosystem.
00:13The podcast is part of a larger collaboration between Apple and Oprah's Book Club
00:17that includes an Apple TV Plus series of the same name,
00:20in which Winfrey hosts an in-depth discussion about a recently published title.
00:24Oprah's Book Club podcast is an eight-part miniseries focused on Isabel Wilkerson's cast,
00:29The Origins of Our Discontents.
00:31Cast, published on August 4th, paints a picture of the hidden hierarchy of human ranking
00:35that has shaped America.
00:37Through two new episodes each week, released on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
00:41Winfrey and Wilkerson will host discussions with a diverse group of guests
00:44as they explore the eight pillars of cast outlined in the book.
00:48Oprah's Book Club first began as a segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s.
00:52In fall of 2019, as Apple was gearing up for the launch of subscription video service Apple TV Plus,
00:58The company announced that it would team with Winfrey to relaunch Oprah's Book Club
01:02as a multi-platform initiative.
01:04And with the podcast, Apple is furthering this collaboration.
