00:00East Africa won the toss and they did what Clive Lloyd did at the Oval.
00:14They put England into bat. In fact Dennis Amis and Barry Woods started quite
00:18slowly but eventually they started to unroll their shots.
00:21Ramesh Sethi, just mob player of Croatia at mid wicket. Two there,
00:33won't quite go for the four he wants for his 50 they'll get three he'll move on to 49.
00:4393 then without loss, PG now another bowler, Amis on 49.
00:51So Amis going to his 50, pushing that gently away to mid wicket. He moves to 50, a very good 50 out of 94,
01:12this opening stand now worth is about to Barry Wood on the 38. Barry Wood the bow facing at the far end
01:20and cracking that through the covers. Zulfikar, the fielder out there, Wood taking a single and
01:27there's been some fairly accurate bowling from the East Africans. Some lapses in the field as you can
01:32see there with Wood able to take the overthrow and certainly nothing penetrating at all about this
01:38attack. Very leisurely medium pace, the most of it. Sethi is the fourth bowler we've seen in action so far,
01:45having just taken over from Don Pringle who bowled right through his 12 overs, the veteran opening bowler.
01:5112, pretty useful over, swung the ball about quite considerably in fact but England so far in no trouble
01:57at all. 99 at the moment. And Barry Wood pushing that through comfortably into mid wicket, taking 100.
02:05This putting in by the East Africans here, very much a defensive measure and ensuring I think a fairly
02:12good day's cricket for the people who've come along to see this match here today. The wicket an absolute
02:18beauty. There's 100 going up in less than an hour and a half from 27 overs. A particularly good over rate
02:26in fact by the East Africans. And there's Amis going for the big one, Lofton into the outfield. And with this
02:32solid basis formed by these most reliable of openers, surely we're in for a little bit of a run riot
02:39later in the England innings. PG now there to Barry Wood. Wood now on 49.
02:44Wood on 49. Problem in going to his 50, driven very pleasantly through the covers. Turn and take two,
03:03Eunice doing the field in, good throw coming in. So Barry Wood joining his partner Dennis Amis,
03:08the second 50 of this innings. He moves to 51 out of 122. Zulfikar Ali, the medium pacer.
03:20Starting his second over. 126 without loss, England.
03:27Turned away elegantly and easily down to deep on leg for four.
03:32Amis moving into the 70s, the England total onto 130.
03:381.40, the England score.
03:561.44.
04:06Amis on 88. Zulfikar, the bowler.
04:17And that's it.
04:18So the first wicket going down. Nona, there's a man taking the catch.
04:22Very wide mid on.
04:24Dennis Amis out. The England score on 158.
04:27And he's made 88 of them in a very pleasant manner indeed.
04:41It's a fine shot there from Frank Hayes.
04:43He's half fell on the left and beautifully turned away for four.
04:46His first boundary.
04:48Hayes moving on there to six.
04:51Still to be Kurejci from the press box end.
04:55Running now to start his sixth over. Barry Wood on 77.
05:02And he's bowled him.
05:03So another success for the medium pace of Kurejci.
05:07Zulfikar to Frank Hayes.
05:15That's an enormous blow high in the air.
05:17Tremendous blow there by Frank Hayes with an awful lot of height on it.
05:21That's a fine blow way over the top of extra cover.
05:33Four runs to Frank Hayes.
05:41And that's another tremendous blow.
05:43It may well carry for... Yes, it's six.
05:47Eight goes back into the long arm stand.
05:49And no doubt at all, the innings of the day come in there from Frank Hayes.
05:5452 at rather quicker than a run a minute.
05:56Superb exhibition from the Lancastrian.
05:59Tony Gregg came in early on Danesse's orders to try and get a little bit of practice,
06:03but he fell LBW to Zed Ali for nine.
06:06Alan Nott followed him, made 18 very pleasant runs.
06:09Chris Old, as ever, threw the bat.
06:11He too made 18.
06:12And Danesse himself was undefeated with 12 at the close of the 60 overs,
06:17when England had made 290 for five.
06:20An immense and impossible situation for the East Africans.
06:23They really needed to get a good start to make any kind of a score.
06:27But it was Jon Snow, back in England form, who really got amongst the early batsmen.
06:34And he's bowled in.
06:36Late on the shot.
06:40Jon Snow's first record in the Prudential Cup.
06:42He bowls Frazid Ali for nought.
06:46Barry Wood in the gully.
06:47And umpire Jon Langridge.
06:51Anne Bolden at the inside edge.
06:55Unisalf to nought.
06:58Jon Snow's second winning wicket in the over.
07:02And that's out, LBW.
07:13Jon Snow not bothering to appeal, but the appeal from Alan Nott upheld.
07:17And Joahir Shah is out.
07:19LBW to Snow, his third record of the innings.
07:26Snow to Wallace Inby.
07:27And that must be close, yes.
07:30It's another LBW decision answered in favour of Jon Snow.
07:34All four wickets.
07:35The first four wickets going down here to the Sussex Base Bowl.
07:40And at 21 for four, East Africa in all kinds of trouble.
07:44So, a fine performance by Jon Snow.
07:46A performance, in fact, which won him the award of the man of the match here at Birmingham today.
07:51Well, there was no way in which East Africa would really recover from such a shocking start.
07:55There was some spirited resistance from Satie, who made 30,
07:59and Qureshi, who followed his two wickets with 19 very useful runs.
08:03But Peter Lever, coming back into the England attack,
08:06collected three wickets, supported well by Tony Gregg.
08:09And Chris Hull, coming on near the end, took the last wicket, that of Don Pringle.
08:14That meant that East Africa were all out for 94,
08:17and another handsome and comfortable victory for England by 196 runs.
08:22And how good it is to see Jon Snow back in the England groove again.
08:26His figures today, four for 11 off his allotted 12 overs.
08:30Right, let's have a look at the other results around the country.
08:32First of all, at Old Trafford, New Zealand beat India there by four wickets with one over to spare.
08:38India, 230 all out off 60 overs.
08:41Abid Ali made 70.
08:42New Zealand, 233 for six off 59 overs.
08:45Glenn Turner, their captain, 114 not out, winning him the man of the match award.
08:49Pakistan beats Sri Lanka by 192 runs.
08:53Pakistan, 330 for six.
08:55Only four runs short of the English one-day record against India at Lourdes the other day.
08:59Zaheer, 97, he was the man of the match.
09:01Majid, 84.
09:02Sadiq, 74.
09:04Sri Lanka, 138.
09:06Imran Khan, three for 15.
09:09And that leaves the semi-final line-up for next Wednesday as follows.
09:12England against Australia at Headingley.
09:14West Indies against New Zealand at the Oval.
09:17We'll be covering both these excellent matches and no doubt both of them will be a sellout.
