00:00And today is all the start of the World Cup one-day cricket competition involving eight
00:29of the strongest cricket countries throughout the world. We had cameras at two venues. We had them
00:33here at Headingley because we wanted to have the first sight on your screens of Dennis Lilley
00:37and Geoff Thompson bowling for Australia against Pakistan. We also had them down at Lourdes where
00:42England started their one-day campaign against India. They began well by winning the toss, the
00:46Warwickshire opening pair. Dennis Amess and John Jameson had 54 up for the first wicket when John
00:51Jameson was out for 21. After that, Dennis Amess really went to town. He was in tremendous fettle
00:57and we're picking up that contest at 74 for one with Venkat bowling to Dennis Amess.
01:09And that's 50 for Amess. Beautifully controlled, sweet little push through the offside. Possibly
01:20the first 50 in the Prudential Cup. Runs are being made elsewhere for no wicket. A lovely
01:2650. Amess out of 78. Amannert ready to start his seventh over. Amess facing on 51.
01:40The glorious shot by Dennis Amess. Cut away square. He's taking toll of Amannert after his very good start.
01:48Amess going from strength to strength now. Moving on to 55 after a score of 91 for one.
01:53Another fine shot. Bounders flowing now from the bat of Dennis Amess. Two in succession there.
02:06Really warming to his task and looking a most accomplished player.
02:09And repeated again. Three in succession. What a wonderful shot. One fine, one square,
02:23and now one put through the cover. Three successive boundaries to Amess.
02:27Amess. Then into the 60s. A superb exhibition of stroke play by the Warwickshire opener.
02:36Abidale, the fifth bowler to be used. Amess on 69.
02:40What a beautiful shot. He really can't go wrong here this morning. Just lent into that and powered it away through the covers.
02:53Amess has moved very rapidly on since he completed his 50. He's moved on now to 73.
02:58Out of the England score of 111 for one. I think that's going to continue starting now his eighth over.
03:04Amess down the pitch. Another glorious shot. Really pulled everyone out here this morning.
03:12Hoisting that over mid-on. Cover drives, leg glances, deflections, cuts.
03:1978 now to Dennis Amess. England score moving on to 116 for one at the start of the 28th over.
03:26And looking, the complete player here. Yet another boundary going through. Extra cover on the offside.
03:4014 boundaries already to Dennis Amess and his score of 82.
03:44Another glorious clip off his legs by Amess's 15th boundary.
04:04That's 36 overs now completed. The important point there is Amess is on 99. 99 made out of 152.
04:14And that's it. Pushed away comfortably on the onside. Right in the middle of the bat once more.
04:22Takes two runs and reaches one of the most accomplished centuries of his career.
04:28That 100 coming in just fractionally over two hours. 16 glorious boundaries on it and been acclaimed by this
04:35magnificent crowd here at Lord's. 101 out of 154 for one.
04:39A group engineer now standing up to the wicket for the medium pace of Abidale.
04:51Such a swing of that away on the lakeside between the two men at long leg and square leg. Four more.
04:55And this big crowd have certainly seen some great shots here this morning. A real flow of boundaries.
05:02Another glorious crack through extra cover. And Fletcher in form is a batsman well worth watching.
05:20Found another big gap in the offside. The man back there. Solker on the boundary. He's got a good arm.
05:25A fine throw coming in to engineer. But there's two runs sufficient to take Keith Fletcher through the 50.
05:33Or possibly not one of his best 50s. But in amongst it all he too has played some really grand shots.
05:39That's a great blow by Fletcher.
05:48Pick that one up and deposit it in the crowd. Round about Lake Stone that one went.
05:54So the first six of this innings. And Fletcher moving into the 60s with it. 200 coming up for England and coming up in the 45th over.
06:03Still the field shuffles round to different positions again. Soccer to Amis.
06:10He's cracked that one in the air. And Abidale is under it.
06:12Fletcher just between the two fielders.
06:18Given those four. Sell just about on the road. Just inside the road.
06:23And he's bowled.
06:33Abidale knocks back Keith Fletcher's off stump. Fletcher 68 out of 230 for one.
06:43Good second string effort by Fletcher there. A bit sticky to start with.
06:46But he contributed his bit towards the end.
06:58And is LBW trying to force a good length ball away on the onside.
07:02Tony Gregg having to take a chance here.
07:06Looking to find a gap on the onside. And Abidale collecting another wicket.
07:11This contribution quite a miserly one of four.
07:14And Madenlal then about to complete his eighth over.
07:18Which leaves him four to bowl.
07:22Govry the other opening bowler has not been called upon.
07:24Since he had his first spell of six overs.
07:26But Armanath and Venkat and Abidale are now bowled out.
07:29They've completed their 12.
07:31And that's it. Swinging away.
07:35So belated wicket there for Madenlal.
07:38And the end of a really glorious exhibition of stroke play by Dennis Amis.
07:45And this entire crowd rising then to Dennis Amis.
07:49A really superb exhibition of stroke play. 137 he made.
07:56And he's enjoyed every minute of that.
07:58And that's hoisted high. Always a good thing to say.
08:11And there we are. We wanted another six. England wanted another six.
08:14And that was the perfect lead in.
08:17Chris Old. High six over Midwicky.
08:26And a great blow there by Chris Old.
08:29Not even bothering to run. It's another six to him.
08:33Beautiful straight crack there for six by Chris Old.
08:36And the crowd absolutely laughing at this now.
08:40So Chris Old. The second six to him.
08:45And just about all the Indian fielders with two exceptions on the boundary.
08:53That's swung high in the air.
08:55And Dinesh coming into the act.
08:56He's found a shorter boundary there at Midwicky.
08:58He's negotiated it successfully.
09:00And he too gets six.
09:06So that's the position here at Lords.
09:10With one over remaining. 321 for four.
09:15There were just two balls left.
09:18Provided Govery doesn't overstep the crease.
09:25Swung away again.
09:26Chris Old swinging at everything.
09:29Yes, it's fielded all right this time.
09:31He'll take two runs.
09:32He'll have the strike for the last ball.
09:33He can push a one if he wants to
09:35make sure of a 50.
09:42And that's his 50.
09:43No bother at all.
09:44I'm sure Dinesh will come back quickly for the second.
09:46It'll give him two.
09:50And so an excellent 50 there from Chris Old.
09:54Exactly what the doctor ordered.
09:56Sent him up the order by Dinesh to push it along.
09:59And he did that in no uncertain fashion.
10:01So England's mammoth score of 334 for four off their 60 overs, including a superb century from Amis,
10:10well supported there by Fletcher and Old.
10:14So how were the Indians going to face this enormous task of scoring five and a half runs and over?
10:19Well, they fell down exceedingly badly on the job.
10:22It was always beyond their reach.
10:24They made no effort whatsoever to try and chase this total.
10:27And the chief culprit there being their opening batsman, Sunil Gavaska.
10:30This little experienced Indian opener who really should have known better,
10:34in actual fact occupied the crease for three and a half hours for his 36 runs.
10:39And that in itself must be some form of record in a limited over game of cricket.
10:44Vishwanath supported him as well as anybody.
10:47With 37, he outpaced Gavaska with no bother at all.
10:51But Patel came in and lost it for the last hour, scoring 11 runs himself.
10:56And after 60 overs, incredibly, the Indians had managed to total only 132 runs
11:01and only lost three wickets in doing it.
11:04Well, it was a disappointing day for many of the Indian spectators who were here.
11:08They repeatedly came onto the field and personally remonstrated with Gavaska,
11:12but it made no apparent effort to him at all.
11:14He went along his own leisurely way and after 60 overs, he was still there.
11:19He carried his bat in a most selfish display of batsmanship.
11:23The final outcome, of course, was that England ran out easy winners.
11:27They're bowlers on top, they're batsmen on top.
11:29They collect four points and win this first match by the substantial margin of over 200 runs.
11:38Since November .
11:41Tomorrow began ahistoric Тогда dug and they have fallen.
11:46Are you alive?
11:47What are you saying is that Especially when you went together,
11:50the last one纟辨 peoples was aonnen смог and the last one in front.
11:52I'm something that you wanted to go all the same.
11:54This would go all the same.
11:56The fifth guy had itsho evolved.
11:59This probably dried, too.
12:01I'd give them an overnight waterfall to dock.
12:02She won a nap of her.
12:03A flower valley기도 doesn't everything he did heard.
