00:00All right, so let's go around college football here.
00:03Gators definitely courted Lane Kiffin.
00:05There were some reports that it was a strange courtship there between Florida and him,
00:11so they pivoted, obviously, to get John Sumrall as their new head coach.
00:15I guess I, Bill, am a little surprised given the fact that, I mean, look,
00:19this is, without a doubt, a more prominent school than where Billy Napier coached.
00:23I just thought the Gators were going to shoot big here.
00:25Not to say that Sumrall won't do a good job.
00:27He can't do any worse than Napier.
00:28So I guess if you want to take that as a positive, that's the case.
00:31Surprising to see Mark Stoops let go after 13 years.
00:34I thought he did a good job at Kentucky.
00:36They had two wins.
00:37They had two bowl games, too.
00:39J.M.U.'s Bob Chesney going to get a five-year deal probably from UCLA
00:42as he finishes off the season.
00:44By the way, I should mention Sumrall finishes at Tulane
00:47and also looks like Michigan State is going to snag Pat Fitzgerald as their head coach, too.
00:52So I'll let you take the floor here.
00:54Do you want to start with Sumrall and what you think may end up happening?
00:57I mean, there's a ton of pressure with him, though, by the way, Bill, from day one,
01:00just because it's not the same hire as Napier,
01:03but it definitely is a little similar in terms of the way that they dug this one out.
01:08I agree with that, but I think John Sumrall has a background in the SEC, obviously.
01:12The fact that he didn't take the Kentucky job tells you that he wants this Florida job.
01:18He wants to be there.
01:20And 42-11, like that record says, he's won everywhere between Troy and Tulane,
01:25and he has a no-nonsense style about him that I think you'll like given time.
01:29You know, it is a high-pressure job after the Lane Kiffin domino fell.
01:35The chain reaction was that these SEC schools were going to hire coaches from the American Conference,
01:40which has been competitive, and the margin for error is very little.
01:44But I looked at how his Tulane teams competed when they played power for school.
01:49Didn't go well against Ole Miss this year, but in general, they did a pretty good job,
01:53and I think John Sumrall could be the right fit there.
01:55Like you said, it can't be much worse than it has been the past couple years.
