00:00This is an atelier, and these are 10 of my favorite items
00:05from my first collection.
00:06And then, let's add HQ.
00:08I was going to say, and by the way, I'm Pharrell.
00:15The way that I design, the way I've always designed,
00:17is from the perspective of the consumer.
00:20And it's interesting because I have specific tastes,
00:23but at the same time, I also want it
00:25to be a bit democratic, you know, like a fragrance.
00:27It's always going to smell different on someone else.
00:29The balancing act there is like, what moves me,
00:32but at the same time, can allow another person
00:35and this particular item to take on a life of its own
00:39and an identity of its own.
00:43These are the millionaires.
00:44We start working on them, and I made me wrong,
00:46but I think it was the end of 03, and they came out in 04.
00:51I met Mark at the 57th Street opening of LV,
00:55and I came in with one of his silk scarves,
00:58Murakami silk scarf, like around my face,
01:01like on some hood shit.
01:02Obviously, you know, I'm not a gangster,
01:04but I always love like pulling certain things.
01:07I'm a people watcher, pulling certain things
01:09and incorporating it my way.
01:11He was like, I like your sunglasses.
01:13Do you want to come make some?
01:14And I was like, well, yeah, but Nego made these.
01:18Can we bring them?
01:19And he was like, yeah, so we started working then,
01:20and I think, technically, it's been like 20 years.
01:25I hate when they put stuff in here,
01:26because I always wanted to like slouch down.
01:30So one of the things I wanted to do when I got here
01:32is I definitely wanted to work on the bags.
01:34I took inspiration from Canal Street.
01:37When you feel this,
01:41and I know you guys don't want to do this,
01:42but look, when have you ever seen a Louis bag do that?
01:44What does it feel like?
01:46Butter.
01:47Come on.
01:48This is like, you know what I'm saying?
01:50It's a different vibe.
01:52So we just leveled it up.
01:54Now, we still make the canvas ones,
01:56but still at that price point.
01:57And then when you go in the store,
01:59you're not going to see this like laying around.
02:00You got to go in the back like you would on Canal Street.
02:03And then you get the laminate and you look at it
02:05and you like choose.
02:06The difference is this is really soft,
02:08crushed, buttery leather.
02:10And when it goes to production,
02:11it's going to be like two times as soft than this.
02:13But I want people to know like you've leveled up.
02:15This is a level up.
02:17Virgil said his first memory of LV
02:19was you carrying that coin purse.
02:21Are you honoring him in any way with this collection?
02:23Yeah, we're honoring him.
02:24I mean, there are things in there that are
02:26kind of like I'm collaborating with his spirit.
02:29You know, when he passed and they did his last show,
02:32it's surreal because you're seeing his work.
02:34You're feeling the taste of his music.
02:36You're seeing the taste of his clothes
02:38and the different people that are walking in the show.
02:40That was a crazy feeling.
02:41So it's like this weird, energetic connection
02:45that continues and I'm just honored.
02:52I wanted to concentrate on like eye shapes
02:54for sunglasses first.
02:56Usually people concentrate on frames,
02:58but I want to make it so that like wherever the lens is
03:00on your face makes you more of like a character
03:03whenever you take a photo.
03:04I wanted you to be able to like put these on
03:07and literally it's like looking at a filter.
03:11Surprisingly, they work on everyone.
03:13There's a reason why Wayfarers work the way they do.
03:15It's the frame, but it's also the shape.
03:17Aviators too, it just works.
03:19How do you do that?
03:22Some sketches, also some references.
03:25Chopping at the bit until you feel like you got it.
03:28What's the price point on those going to be?
03:31I don't be thinking about the prices.
03:33That's not my appointment.
03:36I know you don't want to put the other ones on.
03:38No, you want me to?
03:39Yeah, I really do, yeah.
03:42I really do.
03:47I mean, it's a specific thing.
03:50You got to see the other ones we did
03:51with the pearls like even taller.
03:53It's a lot like making music.
03:55There's the basis.
03:56There's the other integral parts.
03:58And then there's like the way you finish it.
04:00Just a little touch of this or a little touch of that.
04:02And accessories to me do that.
04:04Every phase and every step is just as important
04:07as the beginning.
04:12I'm excited about this because one, I like camo.
04:15Two, one of the things that I wanted to do when I got here
04:18was I wanted to use Damier as like a canvas
04:21to like communicate certain ideas.
04:23So we created Damoflage, like DigiCam.
04:26It's called Damoflage.
04:28Damier is the chessboard pattern
04:31that you see on LB products sometimes.
04:34It's like actually more classic.
04:35And so I wanted to bring it back
04:37and do it in a different kind of way.
04:39This one is mine.
04:40It says the sun is shining on us,
04:41but on the back of all the other ones
04:43that will be commercially available,
04:44it will say lovers.
04:45I just wanted to give love and respect back to a city
04:49that has been showing me so much love,
04:51you know, for like 30 years
04:52since I've been in the music industry.
04:54Never ever dreamt that I would ever be able
04:56to touch the Eiffel Tower
04:57and the idea that like some of my friends are giants here
05:01and they've been holding me up for so many years.
05:03When I got this appointment, I'm like,
05:05man, I gotta give back the love
05:08because we want you to be very clear that this ain't no war.
05:11This is the exact opposite.
05:12This is love.
05:13It's love standing here.
05:15Just like a big overcoat in Damier,
05:21but just the vibe, though, bro.
05:24I don't know how anybody else starts,
05:25but I like silhouettes first.
05:27The details were very important to me,
05:29working on all the key components,
05:31trying to raise the bar for the codes.
05:38These are super comfy,
05:39but I got some other slides that y'all gotta see.
05:41It's crazy.
05:43And, you know, the Damier print, obviously,
05:46but they're like super comfy.
05:47This particular pair is just a sample,
05:49so this is just the one we launched.
05:51Who will wear them?
05:52I don't know.
05:53I can't tell you.
05:54I'm not the person that can afford it.
05:55They're a pretty buck.
05:58I design and create and aspire for the person who is the customer, right?
06:06Someone that has disposable income.
06:08They probably go to, like, celebrations and events.
06:11I want that category to be, like, a lifestyle.
06:14Then there is comfort.
06:16Not just leisure, but clothes that are comfortable to put on.
06:19You know, you hop in your whip and you go to the gas station for whatever,
06:23or you go to Whole Foods to go get milk,
06:26or whatever it is that you're doing.
06:28You need to be comfortable.
06:29So there's that mode.
06:31Then there is resort.
06:33This person, more than likely, if you have that disposable income,
06:36what are you thinking about and what's convenient for you during your vacation?
06:40Then the fourth category is sport, different sports that you're enthusiastic about,
06:45whether it's, like, rugby, which we made, like, leather rugbies.
06:48A lot of thin leather coming.
06:49A lot of thin leather and things that you look at and you think,
06:51oh, those are khakis.
06:52No, there's khakis, but then there's a thin leather version.
06:55Lastly are the core staples.
06:57Those are the things that, like, we get excited about,
07:00that we know that we're going to be able to bring back over and over again.
07:02Every season, you're going to be able to walk in there and get another flavor,
07:05another material exploration.
07:07The synonym for luxury should be convenience.
07:10That's luxury to me.
