This is an atelier, and these are 10 of my favorite items
00:05
from my first collection.
00:06
And then, let's add HQ.
00:08
I was going to say, and by the way, I'm Pharrell.
00:15
The way that I design, the way I've always designed,
00:17
is from the perspective of the consumer.
00:20
And it's interesting because I have specific tastes,
00:23
but at the same time, I also want it
00:25
to be a bit democratic, you know, like a fragrance.
00:27
It's always going to smell different on someone else.
00:29
The balancing act there is like, what moves me,
00:32
but at the same time, can allow another person
00:35
and this particular item to take on a life of its own
00:39
and an identity of its own.
00:43
These are the millionaires.
00:44
We start working on them, and I made me wrong,
00:46
but I think it was the end of 03, and they came out in 04.
00:51
I met Mark at the 57th Street opening of LV,
00:55
and I came in with one of his silk scarves,
00:58
Murakami silk scarf, like around my face,
01:01
like on some hood shit.
01:02
Obviously, you know, I'm not a gangster,
01:04
but I always love like pulling certain things.
01:07
I'm a people watcher, pulling certain things
01:09
and incorporating it my way.
01:11
He was like, I like your sunglasses.
01:13
Do you want to come make some?
01:14
And I was like, well, yeah, but Nego made these.
01:18
Can we bring them?
01:19
And he was like, yeah, so we started working then,
01:20
and I think, technically, it's been like 20 years.
01:25
I hate when they put stuff in here,
01:26
because I always wanted to like slouch down.
01:30
So one of the things I wanted to do when I got here
01:32
is I definitely wanted to work on the bags.
01:34
I took inspiration from Canal Street.
01:37
When you feel this,
01:41
and I know you guys don't want to do this,
01:42
but look, when have you ever seen a Louis bag do that?
01:44
What does it feel like?
01:46
Butter.
01:47
Come on.
01:48
This is like, you know what I'm saying?
01:50
It's a different vibe.
01:52
So we just leveled it up.
01:54
Now, we still make the canvas ones,
01:56
but still at that price point.
01:57
And then when you go in the store,
01:59
you're not going to see this like laying around.
02:00
You got to go in the back like you would on Canal Street.
02:03
And then you get the laminate and you look at it
02:05
and you like choose.
02:06
The difference is this is really soft,
02:08
crushed, buttery leather.
02:10
And when it goes to production,
02:11
it's going to be like two times as soft than this.
02:13
But I want people to know like you've leveled up.
02:15
This is a level up.
02:17
Virgil said his first memory of LV
02:19
was you carrying that coin purse.
02:21
Are you honoring him in any way with this collection?
02:23
Yeah, we're honoring him.
02:24
I mean, there are things in there that are
02:26
kind of like I'm collaborating with his spirit.
02:29
You know, when he passed and they did his last show,
02:32
it's surreal because you're seeing his work.
02:34
You're feeling the taste of his music.
02:36
You're seeing the taste of his clothes
02:38
and the different people that are walking in the show.
02:40
That was a crazy feeling.
02:41
So it's like this weird, energetic connection
02:45
that continues and I'm just honored.
02:52
I wanted to concentrate on like eye shapes
02:54
for sunglasses first.
02:56
Usually people concentrate on frames,
02:58
but I want to make it so that like wherever the lens is
03:00
on your face makes you more of like a character
03:03
whenever you take a photo.
03:04
I wanted you to be able to like put these on
03:07
and literally it's like looking at a filter.
03:11
Surprisingly, they work on everyone.
03:13
There's a reason why Wayfarers work the way they do.
03:15
It's the frame, but it's also the shape.
03:17
Aviators too, it just works.
03:19
How do you do that?
03:22
Some sketches, also some references.
03:25
Chopping at the bit until you feel like you got it.
03:28
What's the price point on those going to be?
03:31
I don't be thinking about the prices.
03:33
That's not my appointment.
03:36
I know you don't want to put the other ones on.
03:38
No, you want me to?
03:39
Yeah, I really do, yeah.
03:42
I really do.
03:47
I mean, it's a specific thing.
03:50
You got to see the other ones we did
03:51
with the pearls like even taller.
03:53
It's a lot like making music.
03:55
There's the basis.
03:56
There's the other integral parts.
03:58
And then there's like the way you finish it.
04:00
Just a little touch of this or a little touch of that.
04:02
And accessories to me do that.
04:04
Every phase and every step is just as important
04:07
as the beginning.
04:12
I'm excited about this because one, I like camo.
04:15
Two, one of the things that I wanted to do when I got here
04:18
was I wanted to use Damier as like a canvas
04:21
to like communicate certain ideas.
04:23
So we created Damoflage, like DigiCam.
04:26
It's called Damoflage.
04:28
Damier is the chessboard pattern
04:31
that you see on LB products sometimes.
04:34
It's like actually more classic.
04:35
And so I wanted to bring it back
04:37
and do it in a different kind of way.
04:39
This one is mine.
04:40
It says the sun is shining on us,
04:41
but on the back of all the other ones
04:43
that will be commercially available,
04:44
it will say lovers.
04:45
I just wanted to give love and respect back to a city
04:49
that has been showing me so much love,
04:51
you know, for like 30 years
04:52
since I've been in the music industry.
04:54
Never ever dreamt that I would ever be able
04:56
to touch the Eiffel Tower
04:57
and the idea that like some of my friends are giants here
05:01
and they've been holding me up for so many years.
05:03
When I got this appointment, I'm like,
05:05
man, I gotta give back the love
05:08
because we want you to be very clear that this ain't no war.
05:11
This is the exact opposite.
05:12
This is love.
05:13
It's love standing here.
05:15
Just like a big overcoat in Damier,
05:21
but just the vibe, though, bro.
05:24
I don't know how anybody else starts,
05:25
but I like silhouettes first.
05:27
The details were very important to me,
05:29
working on all the key components,
05:31
trying to raise the bar for the codes.
05:38
These are super comfy,
05:39
but I got some other slides that y'all gotta see.
05:41
It's crazy.
05:43
And, you know, the Damier print, obviously,
05:46
but they're like super comfy.
05:47
This particular pair is just a sample,
05:49
so this is just the one we launched.
05:51
Who will wear them?
05:52
I don't know.
05:53
I can't tell you.
05:54
I'm not the person that can afford it.
05:55
They're a pretty buck.
05:58
I design and create and aspire for the person who is the customer, right?
06:06
Someone that has disposable income.
06:08
They probably go to, like, celebrations and events.
06:11
I want that category to be, like, a lifestyle.
06:14
Then there is comfort.
06:16
Not just leisure, but clothes that are comfortable to put on.
06:19
You know, you hop in your whip and you go to the gas station for whatever,
06:23
or you go to Whole Foods to go get milk,
06:26
or whatever it is that you're doing.
06:28
You need to be comfortable.
06:29
So there's that mode.
06:31
Then there is resort.
06:33
This person, more than likely, if you have that disposable income,
06:36
what are you thinking about and what's convenient for you during your vacation?
06:40
Then the fourth category is sport, different sports that you're enthusiastic about,
06:45
whether it's, like, rugby, which we made, like, leather rugbies.
06:48
A lot of thin leather coming.
06:49
A lot of thin leather and things that you look at and you think,
06:51
oh, those are khakis.
06:52
No, there's khakis, but then there's a thin leather version.
06:55
Lastly are the core staples.
06:57
Those are the things that, like, we get excited about,
07:00
that we know that we're going to be able to bring back over and over again.
07:02
Every season, you're going to be able to walk in there and get another flavor,
07:05
another material exploration.
07:07
The synonym for luxury should be convenience.
07:10
That's luxury to me.
