00:00Sugar and Spice.
00:04Where five teams of the nation's best bakers have come together
00:08to build entire worlds made of gingerbread
00:12as they compete for a $100,000 prize.
00:17Last time, Team Chalet fell out of top place when they fell to pieces.
00:21Can you wait?
00:22Aren't you rushing me like a long time?
00:25No, no, no.
00:25Let there be a little bit more imprecision.
00:28Team Coastal won with their whimsy.
00:31Congratulations.
00:33It really appeals to my heart.
00:35Team Mid-Century came from the bottom to land in the top two.
00:39Are you sure?
00:40Team Villa narrowly escaped elimination.
00:43I would like to see some other materials, other ingredients.
00:46We're all a little anxious for water.
00:49While Team Brownstone's story came to a close.
00:51We made a lot of wonderful friends.
00:54Now we begin our next chapter,
00:56where four teams are awaiting one host
00:58who has been pining to join them.
01:01You see what I did there?
01:06Oh.
01:07Oh, hello.
01:08Welcome back to Gingerbread Land,
01:10the biggest little holiday competition.
01:12I am your host, Oliver Hudson.
01:15And you are the top four gingerbread teams in the world.
01:18We are in the top two somehow.
01:22Yeah.
01:22It just goes to show you.
01:23Things can change.
01:24Anything is possible, right?
01:25The ties will change like that.
01:27Exactly.
01:28So what you've created so far is just incredible.
01:31And with $100,000 on the line,
01:34the pressure is about to snowball.
01:37See?
01:40Coastal, congratulations, you guys.
01:42You've got a special advantage coming to you later.
01:44Okay, any one of you can win that $100,000 prize.
01:48But to do that, we need some judges.
01:50Please welcome back Chef Gail Gann
01:52and architect Michael Ford.
01:56Welcome, welcome.
01:57Well, teams, today your tiny landscapes will grow once again.
02:01And for this new corner of your world,
02:04your challenge theme is how we travel.
02:08How we travel.
02:10Because when it comes to the holidays with your family,
02:12you can bet that there's going to be planes, trains,
02:14and some traffic delays.
02:16So your main structure must be a transportation hub and system.
02:20So something in your build must move.
02:26And I don't mean move by hand.
02:28They must move on their own by motor or crank.
02:31No one wants their gingerbread to move.
02:34I mean, they can fall apart.
02:37It could spell disaster.
02:39Judges, what's it going to take to impress you?
02:41We're looking at your overall design
02:43and want you to be creative.
02:45Adding movement is a huge opportunity
02:47to bring life to your worlds.
02:48We want you to wow us.
02:50Your details have got to be precise.
02:53And of course, your new build has to blend in seamlessly
02:56with the ones before it.
02:57But don't forget, you can revisit anything
02:59the judges critiqued in your last build.
03:01And you can fix, you can amend.
03:03Okay, so gingerbreaders,
03:04you have 12 hours to bake and build
03:07until the clock strikes 12.
03:10You ready?
03:11Go!
03:12Okay.
03:13We've got your sketches.
03:16How we travel.
03:18We need to focus on water
03:19because they mentioned that a few times.
03:21What do you think is hard about the mechanics?
03:23It's not only the movement,
03:24it's also structurally how did you connect to the base.
03:27And in this case, you're connecting to food.
03:29Yeah.
03:30Someone's going home at the end of this week.
03:32Let's talk about some thoughts and concerns.
03:34Let's go Team Coastal.
03:35They've got a lot of heart,
03:37but I would like to see them
03:38clean up their craftsmanship a little bit more.
03:41Team Mid-Century.
03:42They understand your architectural style,
03:44so they need to make it feel like Christmas.
03:46All right, let's go check them out.
03:48I would love to do an aerial tram
03:49like this Palm Springs tram.
03:52We would just have to figure out
03:53how to get it to move on a line.
03:55So we're going to need a station for the tram as well.
03:58I feel like we can do one of those really cool,
04:00like zigzaggy kind of buildings.
04:02The plan to incorporate movement into our build
04:05is to create an aerial tram
04:07that will travel on a line via a spinning motor.
04:11We're going to have a few panels in our tram station
04:14that are going to be like this.
04:16You know, it's supposed to be sort of wood paneling,
04:18but this is like sort of a mid-century pattern.
04:21I like that.
04:22That's just rolled on there.
04:23And I'll put that in the oven.
04:24We had an exciting last challenge
04:26where we ended up in the top, too.
04:28So the momentum is on our side.
04:30Well, look who it is.
04:32Did you expect that at all?
04:34You know, you could have knocked me over
04:37the proverbial feather.
04:38Really?
04:39Where did you think you might land?
04:41At the airport.
04:44I'm glad that they saw enough improvement in us
04:48that they want to see us do some other stuff.
04:50Well, I'm happy you guys are here.
04:51We learned that we need to add
04:54more Christmas elements going forward.
04:56So I'm going to start working on
04:58some of the Christmas decoration.
05:00A simple trick to making a Christmas tree
05:03is to use ice cream sugar cones.
05:06And what you can do is just pipe some royal icing
05:09up and down all the way around the bottom,
05:11then layer all the way to the top.
05:13Those trees are really beautiful.
05:17I'm baking my own gingerbread recipe.
05:21I'm adding molasses
05:23because this gives like a really nice flavor.
05:26and also the smell is very nice.
05:29And we already know the judges liked it.
05:31So I'm putting a lot of molasses on this one.
05:34So it smells even better.
05:36As a team, we're thinking about
05:37how do you travel around a ski resort?
05:39Well, that is maybe in your car,
05:41maybe on a trolley, on a ski lift.
05:43So we're going to try to throw
05:44as much in this as we can.
05:45So our plan for the travel hub
05:47is to make another style of a chalet building
05:51and a working ski lift.
05:53And then also we are going to make a trolley
05:56and some vehicles to show different ways
05:58to move around the village.
06:00So I'm going to start working on the topography
06:02for the mountain.
06:03And then I'm going to start doing the trolley.
06:05And for this challenge,
06:06my main responsibility is the building.
06:09It's the only thing I'm working on.
06:11In our last challenge,
06:12the shopping plaza that Carolina made
06:15was a little too perfect for the judges.
06:18That's why I'm doing the building this week.
06:20This is my way.
06:22What?
06:25Who wants to measure?
06:26You do you, Suzanne.
06:27So coming into this challenge,
06:29we've regrouped
06:30and our compasses all set
06:32to the right orientation.
06:34And we are all moving forward.
06:37And how's the team?
06:38Are we back?
06:39I think we're doing pretty good now.
06:41It's a lot of stress.
06:42And there's a lot of different techniques
06:44and cultures.
06:46And it's like everything mixed together.
06:48But I think we're talking now
06:50and we are back to normal.
06:52Great.
06:53I love hearing that.
06:54Hello, hello.
06:56What are y'all thinking about
06:59when it comes to movements?
07:01We'll introduce a boat movement.
07:03It'll be pulling up to the dock.
07:05Okay.
07:05One thing for you all to consider,
07:07your build has a high density of structures.
07:11It's a lot to read.
07:12What sends some open space
07:14allows us to appreciate some of your detail.
07:17Our feedback from the judges
07:18was don't overfill.
07:20So we're going to be building a church,
07:23cottage, ticket booth,
07:25and a moving fairy.
07:27I'm going to make a batch of brown gingerbread.
07:30We plan on having one more of a natural color.
07:33And I plan on making a black batch.
07:35So I will make the same exact recipe as the brown,
07:39but I'm going to add black gel paste to it.
07:42We were critiqued and challenged, too,
07:44that the color of the water was too blue.
07:47And so with this challenge,
07:48we want to listen to the judges.
07:50I'm basically hand painting over the blue.
07:53And what that'll do is
07:55if you start layering in the colors,
07:56you'll get the color that you really want.
07:59I am about to create
08:00one of the walls for our fish market.
08:03I think this is our opportunity
08:05to really give the judges what they asked for,
08:07which was water,
08:08and to bring the Mediterranean landscape
08:12and actually show some sea.
08:15And we have a boathouse and some boats
08:17for our transportation hub.
08:19We have to have movement,
08:21so we need to have a drawbridge.
08:23I have to tackle that church roof
08:25back on quadrant one.
08:27The judges didn't love it,
08:28and we didn't have time to fix it
08:30in the last challenge.
08:31So I used thicker pieces of fondant.
08:34I'm trying to do our terracotta tiles again,
08:37but we're going to keep them dark
08:38so that not everything is just so orange
08:41on this quadrant here.
08:42We hope this kind of settles the problems with it.
08:46With Team Villa, would you agree with me
08:48in saying that obviously their technical skills are there?
08:52I do feel like they haven't shown us
08:54anything new in a while, to be honest.
08:56I know they can do roofs, stucco, balconies out of pasta,
08:59but I haven't really seen a lot of new techniques brought in.
09:03The judges keep asking for us to step out of our box,
09:05and we're just trying to come up with ways
09:07to implement some new techniques and materials.
09:11Having been in the bottom two,
09:12we can't help but feel a little discouraged.
09:15I think the worst-case scenario is that we go home
09:17before we can finish and show the world
09:19what we are capable of.
09:22Okay, judges, we have $100,000 on the line.
09:25The theme for this build is how we travel,
09:27and the special feature is kinetic movement.
09:30So Team Chalet, they have the mountain.
09:32They're going to add a ski lift,
09:34and one thing that I want to make sure they do
09:36is test it out.
09:36They have motion in their last row.
09:39The grand opening didn't quite roll out.
09:41All right, let's go check them out.
09:43Okay.
09:43Let's do it.
09:43So what are we thinking here?
09:47What's going on here?
09:47I'm just building up the bulk of our mountain
09:51for our ski lift.
09:52So this process in building this tall peak
09:54is using rice cereal treat
09:56and then also adding royal icing
09:58because it serves as an adhesive
10:00and helps me keep my rice cereal in place.
10:02And now is a good time to test that.
10:04This topography is my biggest challenge yet
10:06because I have to leave enough depth of space
10:10for the rotation on the ski lift.
10:13Oh, it makes it down a little bit.
10:16This is an important piece
10:17because it's a huge part of our story
10:19and how we move.
10:20Our special feature didn't work well
10:22in the last challenge.
10:23So I need to focus on the ski lift
10:25and making sure that everything about it
10:27functions properly.
10:29We built this up with so much royal.
10:30We got to take some more out.
10:31That's it.
10:32We don't want to damage all that hard work
10:34with it running into the mountain.
10:36So the topography has to be adjusted.
10:38Ooh, look at that.
10:41Nice and smooth.
10:43Beautiful, beautiful.
10:44The chalet team, I mean,
10:45I just, I don't even know how they do it.
10:48They're like robots.
10:49We need to really give it our all
10:52if we want a shot at winning this.
10:55I am mixing cookie crumbs
10:57in with some white sugar
10:59to give the effect of sand.
11:02We are going to put the sand
11:04on the beach by the water.
11:05Right now, I am going to
11:07texture this gingerbread.
11:08It is going to be for our dock.
11:11The judges want to see
11:12some other materials.
11:15One of the things that I think
11:16a lot of us gingerbreaders
11:18like to use for structural support
11:20are cinnamon sticks.
11:21And I decide that these cinnamon sticks
11:23look very much like the poles
11:25of what will hold up the docks.
11:27Hopefully, the judges appreciate it.
11:29I really don't want to mess
11:30with the cinnamon stick look.
11:32I think it's honestly perfect for this.
11:35The dock is actually set in our water,
11:37which is going to be isomalt.
11:39Hey, Faith.
11:39I see color.
11:40So, yeah, we're having a little more fun
11:42with color on this quadrant.
11:44So how do you deal with being
11:45the national champion?
11:48Typically, I will spend, you know,
11:50many hundred hours a year
11:52making gingerbread houses
11:53for the competition.
11:54Have you ever had to take a break
11:56from gingerbreading?
11:57I'm taking a break this year, actually.
11:59Oh, you are?
11:59Why?
12:00I'm getting married.
12:01Yay!
12:02My God, congratulations.
12:05I would love to win this competition
12:07for my fiancee
12:08because he has been very supportive.
12:10Oh, this is so great.
12:13Okay, guys, I'm going to put the road in.
12:14Cool.
12:15We're going to try and seamlessly build
12:17this one and connect it to the other ones
12:19with a roadway.
12:20We're going to use our poppy seat.
12:21What are you making here?
12:22I'm making our aerial tram.
12:23That's the tram.
12:24I'm made out of a gum paste
12:25mixed with gingerbread crumbs.
12:28I mean, that looks just like
12:29those trams that take you up.
12:30Yeah, we like it.
12:32I'm using gum paste for the tram
12:33because it dries really hard
12:35and we need the tram to hold its shape.
12:38I am covering it
12:40with modeling chocolate in strips.
12:42I'm painting the inside
12:44and outside with edible paints.
12:46I'm not going to put the tram on
12:48until the last possible minute
12:50because it's kind of risky
12:51to roll it on this giant plinth
12:54through the doorways.
12:55Okay.
12:57Okay, gingerbreaders,
12:59you are halfway through your time.
13:02Oh, oh.
13:03Make sure you get that special feature
13:05of movement in there.
13:06Move it or lose it.
13:09Literally.
13:10Because this is an elimination challenge.
13:13Currently, I am working on our ferry boat.
13:15Of course, we need to have a ferry.
13:17We've taken ferries to different islands
13:20of our coast that don't allow cars.
13:22Right now, we're just getting
13:23the rough whitewash on it.
13:25We really want this boat to move,
13:26so we put him on an electric car chassis.
13:29Oh, my God.
13:34Back him up.
13:34This is awesome.
13:39Do you guys have a game plan?
13:41We have a list, Oliver.
13:42We have a list.
13:43Can I read the list?
13:45Okay.
13:45Don't read our list out loud.
13:47There's some crazy stuff in here.
13:49I don't understand this one.
13:51Sabotage Team Villa?
13:52Okay, that is not what that says.
13:54Yeah.
13:54Hello, Team Chalet.
13:56How you doing?
13:57Pretty good.
13:59What are you making?
14:00This is the ski lift station.
14:02Your critique before was
14:03it was feeling very mechanical.
14:05Yeah, I'm not,
14:07I'm anything but mechanical.
14:09My buildings do look more handmade.
14:11I don't use rulers.
14:12I build by feeling.
14:14So what I did in this challenge
14:15is I rolled out the ginger clay
14:17and I made the marks
14:18and then I went over it
14:20with watered-down food coloring.
14:22And that gave it that aged look.
14:24I think with this lodge
14:26we're going to bring in
14:27the warmth that the judges asked for.
14:30I'm creating here a trolley
14:32made out of gingerbread.
14:33I'm covering this trolley right now
14:36in fondant
14:37and I'm going to hand cut
14:39the windows out of it.
14:41I'm making sure that this trolley
14:43looks handmade
14:44so they can love it.
14:48We are creating a drawbridge
14:50that will actually lift up
14:52so that we can have our sailboats
14:53go through this channel.
14:56Heather has rigged together
14:58a bit of a pulley system.
15:00I'm just going to make
15:00little tiny gingerbread pieces
15:02to cover the wires.
15:03I am using my
15:05itty-bitty table saw.
15:07All right, can you make sure it works?
15:08Yeah.
15:09Oh, you can go both ways?
15:10Yeah.
15:11We've tested it and it works
15:12and we're pretty excited
15:13but now we have to install it.
15:15This is going to have to go through.
15:17No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
15:19You're going to have to go inside.
15:20Why?
15:21So that this can fit inside, right?
15:24I think Heather is a little flustered
15:27because she just can't quite figure out
15:30where we're going to put
15:31all of the mechanics.
15:32This is going to be outside.
15:35Okay.
15:36We'll just put it on the balcony.
15:37That's ugly.
15:38When it comes to stress
15:41and not having enough time
15:43for something.
15:44I don't do well.
15:45You're insane.
15:46You're insane.
15:47So my solution for mounting
15:48the drawbridge mechanics
15:49is to just use the patio area
15:52that is currently empty
15:53on our boathouse.
15:56Okay.
15:56Do we want to try it out?
15:57Troubleshooting and go.
16:02Beautiful, guys.
16:04That's great.
16:05So who's in charge
16:06of the movement aspect
16:07of your new build?
16:08Vanya.
16:09I know.
16:10That's why I was looking at you.
16:12I'm the youngest one
16:13and they're like,
16:13you can do this, right?
16:14I'm like,
16:15I don't understand physics
16:16as much as I feel like I should
16:17in general.
16:19So this will be interesting.
16:20Time management
16:21is definitely something
16:22that I struggle with.
16:23I haven't even started
16:24on this police system.
16:26I'm going to go test
16:27to see if our motors
16:28function the way
16:29they're supposed to.
16:30My plan is to have
16:31one motor on each tram post
16:34that will be spinning
16:34in the same direction.
16:36And then I'm going
16:37to have our line
16:38for the tram
16:39wrapped around.
16:40So in theory,
16:41as they spin,
16:42they'll move the tram
16:43along the line.
16:44Okay.
16:46If it doesn't work,
16:47oops.
16:50I think it's too tight.
16:52I'm having a little bit
16:54of difficulty
16:54determining what the right length
16:57of the string should be.
16:59Ah!
16:59I definitely feel pressure
17:01that this has to work
17:02because this is the whole
17:04premise of the challenge.
17:05There is not a lot
17:06of time left.
17:07And if it doesn't work,
17:09then we won't have
17:09a moving element.
17:10Um, could I get somebody's help
17:14for one moment?
17:14Sure, sure.
17:15It's very tight.
17:16Yep.
17:17This is a critical moment.
17:19Okay, so let's see.
17:21The string keeps popping off.
17:24So I'm just going to
17:26hand crank the tram
17:28so I'm not going to
17:29be using the motor.
17:31If I have to, like,
17:31pull it myself.
17:33I really hope that
17:34this will work in judging.
17:36All right.
17:37That's good enough for me.
17:37Guys, attention, attention.
17:40Please step away
17:41from your gingerbreads.
17:42Are you being for real?
17:43We are stopping the clock.
17:44So, gingerbreaders,
17:46your builds are looking
17:46absolutely incredible.
17:49We just want to make sure
17:50that the story you're telling
17:51is also on the right track.
17:56Wait a second.
17:57Did you just hear that?
17:59Oh!
18:00The train with your new
18:02story prompts
18:03is arriving now!
18:04It's just kind of
18:07the icing on
18:08the stress cake
18:10that I myself
18:11am eating.
18:12Teams, you must each
18:12pick a prompt
18:13and create a story
18:14from it
18:15to weave
18:16into your build.
18:17You're going to pick
18:18in the order that you
18:19ranked in our last challenge.
18:21Okay, here are your prompts.
18:23That's the ticket.
18:25Handle with care.
18:26Follow the tracks.
18:28And dashing.
18:29I, like, don't even
18:31not interpret any of those.
18:32Team Coastal,
18:33you won the last time,
18:35so you will choose first.
18:38Oh, that.
18:39That's the ticket.
18:40Yes, that's what we want.
18:42We actually,
18:43in our story,
18:43already had a ticket booth,
18:45so that would be
18:46the easiest
18:46we can incorporate
18:47into our build.
18:49So, next up,
18:50we have
18:51Team Mid-Century.
18:52Come on up.
18:53I'm happy that
18:54we have options
18:55because we were
18:56in the top two.
18:58Is there anything
18:58we could work in?
18:59What if it follow
19:00the tracks?
19:01I think that's
19:01the best one
19:02that we talked about.
19:03Follow the tracks.
19:04Follow the tracks?
19:04Yep.
19:05All right,
19:05two prompts left.
19:07So, third to pick,
19:08Team Chalet.
19:10Okay.
19:11Handle with care
19:12and dashing.
19:14We choose dashing
19:15because we can have
19:17something dashing
19:18down the slope.
19:19Which leaves
19:19Team Villa.
19:20You should go up here.
19:21Come on up.
19:22Let me get,
19:22can I guess what
19:22you're going to do?
19:23Oh, my gosh.
19:23Let me guess.
19:24Let me guess.
19:24Let me guess.
19:25Let me guess.
19:25Handle with care.
19:26Yes.
19:27Okay, guys, good luck.
19:29Here we go,
19:29Gingerbreaders.
19:30Now, remember,
19:31what the judges
19:31are looking for
19:32in your builds.
19:33It's creativity,
19:34it's continuity,
19:36execution,
19:37and your overall design.
19:39And with this new prompt,
19:40they're also looking
19:40for a whole new layer
19:41of storytelling.
19:42And with $100,000
19:44on the line,
19:45you don't want to be
19:46the team that goes home
19:46at the end of this build.
19:48So, let's restart
19:49the clock right now.
19:50Full steam ahead
19:51on that gingerbread.
19:52Let's go.
19:53So, I think we have
19:55the setting for that
19:55to take it.
19:56We have dashing,
19:58which is perfect for us.
19:59It's perfect.
20:00So, we've got
20:01handle with care.
20:02What if we painted
20:03one of our people
20:04to look like Santa Claus?
20:06I think the story prompt
20:07is going to work out
20:08much better
20:08for our build
20:09because one of the judges'
20:12constant feedback
20:12is more Christmas.
20:14So, I immediately
20:14just think,
20:15let's bring something
20:16in on a boat
20:16and it's being delivered
20:17for Christmas.
20:18And we'll just put a sign
20:19that says handle
20:19with care on it.
20:20All right,
20:20I'm going to start
20:21adding decorations
20:22onto our boats.
20:24I decide to
20:25Christmas-fy our boats
20:27a little bit more.
20:28So, I make
20:29a Christmas parade.
20:31I want Christmas.
20:32We're trying
20:32to give them Christmas.
20:34How's it going,
20:35everybody?
20:35So, how are we
20:36incorporating
20:37Follow the Tracks?
20:39Somehow, we, like,
20:40immediately came up
20:41with something
20:42that ties kind of
20:44the three quadrants
20:45together in a fun way.
20:47We can have an elf
20:49that has come out
20:50of the bakery
20:51where the elves
20:52were partying
20:53in our last build
20:54and leave little footprints
20:55out into the town
20:57leading to the elf
20:59climbing up a light post.
21:00That is so freaking cute.
21:02We did it.
21:03Okay, we have
21:04one hour and 30 minutes
21:06to finish this.
21:07I'm going to make
21:08some skis and snowboards
21:10for our skiers.
21:12We're going to make
21:13these Santas
21:14dashing through the snow
21:16on our ski slope.
21:17No-brainer.
21:18Now, let me start
21:19putting the guys,
21:20like, dashing.
21:22If that is not
21:23colorful in life,
21:25even the Grinch
21:26will cry looking at it.
21:28Look at that teeny,
21:30tiny gold ticket.
21:31So, choosing
21:32That's the Ticket,
21:33we're going to incorporate
21:34the Ferry Booth
21:35Ticket Office,
21:36and there's going
21:37to be a golden ticket
21:38that some unsuspecting
21:39passenger is going
21:40to be given
21:41as a surprise
21:42when they land
21:43at the ferry landing.
21:44That golden ticket
21:45also matches
21:46a golden ticket
21:47that's under
21:48a large gift box
21:49under our Christmas tree
21:50in the center of town.
21:52It's just a memory
21:53from when my kids
21:53were little.
21:54We wanted to start
21:55giving experiences
21:56and not a bunch
21:57of toys,
21:57and I would give tickets
21:59or puzzles
21:59that had to be put
22:00together to discover
22:02whatever our big new
22:03adventure was going
22:04to be at Christmas time.
22:05Okay, teams,
22:06it's time to ginger snap
22:08to it.
22:09We have one hour left.
22:10Pipe now,
22:12panic later.
22:13Oh, don't like that.
22:14I don't like that.
22:18I am working
22:19on the air tram station
22:21now,
22:21and it is called
22:22a zigzag roof.
22:23This style of roof
22:25is really hard
22:26to get precise.
22:27So Team of the Century
22:28was one of the top teams.
22:30Yeah.
22:31They don't seem
22:32to be relenting.
22:33Yeah, I agree.
22:34And those last-minute moves
22:36they made last time
22:37saved the day,
22:38and I'm hoping
22:38it works out again.
22:40Oh, my God.
22:47I don't love it.
22:49It's not perfect.
22:50It's on,
22:50but I have gaps
22:51and holes,
22:52and, but,
22:53see, look at this.
22:54Mm-hmm.
22:55There's no way
22:56I can get that perfect.
22:57This is the biggest building
22:58on our project,
23:00and it's not detailed
23:02the way I want it to be.
23:04I'm not happy with it.
23:05Can we do strips
23:09of fondant
23:09that are this,
23:10and that way
23:11there's no seam
23:12in the middle?
23:13You know,
23:13we can just do
23:14a piece that goes like that
23:15and a piece that goes like that.
23:18Good.
23:19I am working
23:20on the air tram station,
23:21transportation hub
23:22for how we travel.
23:23So for the top of the roof,
23:25I am covering it
23:26in fondant
23:26to just try
23:27and clean up
23:28some of the lines.
23:29Okay, teams,
23:3030 minutes left.
23:33I need you to,
23:34whenever you're not busy,
23:35to do the thing,
23:36your thing.
23:38Whenever you want me to,
23:40I'll jump on it.
23:41I've gotten as far
23:42as I'm going to get
23:43with this historic lodge,
23:44so I'm going to have
23:46Aline come in
23:47and do her painting.
23:49All right,
23:49I feel like this is enough.
23:50I don't want to go overboard.
23:52And then Carolina
23:53can go in,
23:54and she does this
23:55crazy accurate stuff
23:57with the trusses,
23:59and she does really great
24:00Christmas decorations,
24:02and she's very good
24:03at detail.
24:04It feels really great
24:05to be gelling again.
24:07Gingerbreaders,
24:07this is your 20-minute warning.
24:09Now, when the clock strikes 12,
24:11your builds must be
24:13inside the room behind me.
24:14The doors to the judging room
24:16are open.
24:21Come on, let's do it.
24:22Come on, let's do it.
24:23We just got to put
24:24the tram on in there.
24:25Okay.
24:26I know that I'm going to have
24:27to put the tram on
24:28at the last possible minute
24:30because it's kind of risky
24:32to roll it through the doorways,
24:33so we need to make sure
24:35to get all of these details
24:37on the board
24:38and roll our piece
24:39into the judging room
24:40as quickly as possible.
24:42All right,
24:42we got one on the move,
24:43you guys.
24:43We got one on the move.
24:44Mid-century's on the move.
24:45We're only one challenge
24:46away from the finale,
24:48one challenge away
24:49from winning the prize,
24:50so it does feel
24:52like a lot of pressure.
24:53Looks great.
24:54We're up.
24:56Awesome.
24:57Oh, my God.
24:58Very, very good.
24:59I'm scared.
25:01Graveyard's going
25:02behind the church.
25:03Behind?
25:04Yeah, okay.
25:06Perfect.
25:06All right,
25:06and then let's go move it.
25:08Team Coastal's on the move.
25:10Just take it slow.
25:11You want to know
25:12how we travel?
25:13This is how we travel.
25:14Where the other team's
25:15precision is on,
25:17our storytelling
25:18is very strong.
25:19Ready?
25:22I'm putting some rocks
25:23handmade rocks.
25:25I'm not using
25:26a mold or anything.
25:29So I'm making a tunnel,
25:30and I just had to put
25:31some stones around it.
25:33And I'm using fondant,
25:34so they have
25:35different colors on it.
25:37And then I'm trimming
25:38this car in half,
25:40and we can have
25:40this illusion
25:41that a car is coming
25:43out of the tunnels.
25:44Okay, guys,
25:44we got 15 minutes
25:45to get it all done
25:47and in the judging room.
25:48Okay, come in
25:49with the building, okay?
25:50Put it down.
25:55Okay.
25:55I'm really proud of us.
25:56We came together
25:58and it shows.
25:59There we go.
26:00We got this.
26:02It just won't dry.
26:04I don't know
26:05that I'm going to be able
26:05to get all this covered.
26:07The isomalt C
26:08is taking me
26:08so much longer
26:09than I expected it to
26:10because if you're pouring
26:12hot isomalt
26:13over cooled isomalt,
26:15it then heats up
26:16the cooled isomalt,
26:18taking so much longer
26:19for it to cool.
26:20All right, we got
26:20five minutes.
26:21I know.
26:21We got it.
26:22We just need to
26:23get everything on the board
26:24and into the other room.
26:26We didn't really, like,
26:27connect this.
26:27Are we good?
26:28It's too late now.
26:29One minute left.
26:30One of the things
26:31that fell by the wayside
26:32was our seam.
26:33We know that
26:34these things need
26:35to be connected
26:36and that they want
26:36them to be seamless,
26:38but the isomalt
26:38proved to be a bear
26:40and we had to make
26:41the executive decision.
26:43Are we good?
26:43Yep.
26:44Five, four,
26:46three, two,
26:47and one.
26:49Yeah.
26:49Hands off your build.
26:51Time is done.
26:52Step away from your build.
26:53Great job, guys.
26:56Congratulations.
26:57We just need to hope
26:58the judges don't say
26:59anything about the seams.
27:00Make it through
27:01the next round
27:02and then I'll just go back
27:03and cover all the seams,
27:04hopefully.
27:05Okay.
27:06Are we ready to be judged?
27:08We have a very
27:08special guest judge,
27:10but let me tell you about it.
27:11She's known for her
27:12hilarious work
27:13in The Good Place,
27:15Sperry and Broad City.
27:18Actually, she's no stranger
27:19to holiday baking
27:20considering she's also
27:21the winner
27:22of the Great American
27:23Baking Show,
27:24Celebrity Holiday.
27:25Welcome Darcy Cardin.
27:30I'm Trish Tarnaby Cool.
27:32I'm a huge fan.
27:33Total huge, huge fan.
27:36Darcy.
27:37Hi, guys.
27:37How are you?
27:38I'm so excited to be here.
27:40So what are you looking
27:41to see here?
27:41I'm excited about
27:42the storytelling.
27:43I'm excited about
27:44the details.
27:45I've always, always,
27:46always loved miniature
27:47dollhouse-y gingerbread-y
27:49little storybook land.
27:51So this is right up my alley.
27:52I'm excited.
27:53Great.
27:53Yeah.
27:53Okay, gingerbreaders,
27:55this was the toughest
27:56challenge yet.
27:57Under the theme
27:57How We Travel,
27:59you had to build
27:59a transportation hub
28:00with a special feature
28:02of movement.
28:03Here's what the judges
28:04are going to be looking for.
28:05Bold creativity,
28:06strong execution,
28:08seamless continuity,
28:09and incredible storytelling.
28:11Up first is
28:13Team Villa.
28:16Because we are
28:18in the Mediterranean
28:19and you asked for water,
28:21we gave you water.
28:23We have lots of boats
28:24and our beach
28:25and we have all
28:26of our buildings
28:27that are lining
28:28the water.
28:29This time,
28:30we really went
28:30with a grander scale
28:31and color
28:32and it is
28:33our holiday boat parade.
28:34So our story prompt
28:36was Handle With Care.
28:37We decided that
28:39there would be
28:39a person in the neighborhood
28:41would dress up
28:42as Santa each year
28:43and bring toys
28:44to all the children.
28:45So he has his bag of toys
28:47and it says
28:48Handle With Care.
28:49And what about
28:49your movement piece?
28:51We have a drawbridge
28:52so that we can
28:53let our sailboats
28:54go through.
28:55Let's see it.
28:55I hope it works.
28:56For the first time
29:09you have a material
29:09in this raw form
29:10where everything
29:12has been very perfect
29:13and mechanical
29:13for you all.
29:14That was a very
29:15loose material.
29:16Nice execution there.
29:17Also like your bridge.
29:20You went back
29:21and picked up
29:21some previous comments
29:22too.
29:23So we talked
29:24about the roof.
29:24Great job, you all.
29:25I love
29:26that you did
29:27some new techniques
29:28for you guys
29:29that I hadn't seen before.
29:30You've got some water
29:31which is done
29:32with ice and malt sugar.
29:33Love the cinnamon sticks.
29:35I think my one criticism
29:36is the fact
29:38that it's not
29:39a seamless experience
29:41from the last build.
29:42The materials
29:43don't cross over.
29:45I love it, you guys.
29:47I'm so charmed by this.
29:49I can see this
29:50little village so clearly.
29:52The water's amazing.
29:53I love it.
29:54I want to vacation here.
29:55I'm going here next summer
29:57with my whole family.
29:58I'm taking them all.
29:59It's going to be
29:59a really good vacation.
30:00Gail notices the seam
30:02and she's right.
30:03It makes it very clear
30:05where the quadrants
30:06are separated.
30:07I really hope
30:08that it's not the thing
30:09that sends us home.
30:11All right, team chalet.
30:13Well, welcome
30:14to the Summit Adventure Center
30:16at the Sugar Pine Resort
30:18on Mount Mary.
30:19What would be a ski resort
30:20without slopes, right?
30:22So that is how
30:23our visitors travel.
30:25They travel on the slopes
30:26and on their
30:27vintage trolley system.
30:30This building that we have
30:31is actually one
30:31of the first buildings
30:33on the property.
30:34Our story prompt
30:35was dashing.
30:36So we have our Santas
30:37dashing through the snow.
30:40And our moving element
30:41is the ski lift.
30:42It's the actual
30:43functioning ski lift.
30:44So if I may,
30:45I'll turn the gondola on
30:46for you.
30:46Let's see it.
30:46Yay!
30:54Is it going to make the turn?
30:56It's the turn.
30:57Look at that.
30:57Make the turn.
30:59That is cool.
31:01Wow.
31:02I think you guys
31:03handled the prompt
31:04really well,
31:05dashing.
31:06I love all these guys
31:07coming down the ski slope.
31:08There's so much detail
31:10blown away
31:11by the ski lift.
31:12Yeah, would the line
31:13be long
31:14for the one ski lift, Sharon?
31:16You got all day.
31:19You're on vacation.
31:20I think it was
31:20a great move
31:21to have the mountain
31:23and make it as big
31:24as you made it
31:24because it gives us
31:25some contrast.
31:27It allows us
31:27to appreciate
31:28the details.
31:30It's a nice charm.
31:31Yeah.
31:31I can read the age
31:33of having the stone facades.
31:35The seamlessness,
31:36which I ask for
31:37all the time,
31:38I think you guys
31:39handled really well.
31:40I love that you
31:41heard our comments
31:43about things were getting
31:44a little mechanical
31:45and too perfect
31:46and that I can see
31:48some hands touch
31:50that trolley car.
31:51I really appreciate that.
31:52So, Team Chalet.
31:53Great job, you guys.
31:54Thank you so much.
31:56Team Mid-Century.
31:58Knowing that I'm
31:59going to have to be
32:00the one to go ahead
32:01and crank this tram
32:04on my own,
32:05it feels like
32:05a huge responsibility
32:06and I definitely feel
32:08a bit of pressure.
32:09Welcome to our
32:11Gingerbread Wonderland
32:12inspired by Palm Springs.
32:15So, we have created
32:16a transportation hub
32:18that is an air tram station.
32:20We have a folded plate roof,
32:21which is a classic
32:22mid-century style roof.
32:25And we have the roadway
32:27that's extended out
32:28from our original build.
32:29So, our story prompt
32:32was follow the tracks.
32:33So, if you'll remember
32:35in this quadrant,
32:36we've got some
32:37little partying elves.
32:39Cute!
32:40Yes!
32:40So, they've gotten
32:41into some of the baked goods
32:42and are spreading out
32:45into the town.
32:45So, we've got a little elf
32:47that has tracked
32:48a little chocolate footprint,
32:50dropped his donut,
32:51and decided he's going
32:52to climb the light pole
32:53because he's a menace
32:54to society.
32:55Let's check out
32:56your movement.
32:57Our movement element
32:58is obviously the air tram,
33:00which Danielle will explain.
33:04I've got a hand crate.
33:06Sorry, I'm just making sure
33:07it's the right direction.
33:08Yeah, it is.
33:08Okay.
33:09It's coming down for somewhere.
33:10So well.
33:13I think my heart just dropped.
33:16It came off the reel.
33:18The tram definitely
33:19looks like it's going to fall.
33:22I'm lucky that I have
33:23my other hand on the spool
33:24ready to catch the string.
33:26It is disappointing
33:27the tram didn't work.
33:29Your moving moment.
33:30Wow, I know you had
33:30a little bit of a challenge
33:31getting it to move.
33:32It cranks, yeah.
33:34But I'm still feeling
33:35the holiday spirit in here.
33:37I also like the construction
33:39of me.
33:39It looks like this time capsule.
33:41I think the details
33:42of how the roofs
33:43come together.
33:44So each one of the ends,
33:46they don't connect.
33:47All of the ridges are nice
33:49when you look at it
33:49from the top.
33:51But looking at the ends
33:52of the gables here,
33:53I can see a little bit
33:55of slappiness
33:55and how it all came together.
33:57One thing I love
33:58is it is so seamless.
34:01I would say I'm not comparing,
34:03but this looks like
34:04one piece to me.
34:05I love it.
34:06You guys have nailed
34:06Palm Springs.
34:07I'm there.
34:08The story with the elf
34:09tracking his little
34:10chocolatey footprints.
34:11I want more.
34:12I love it.
34:13I mean, I just want to hear
34:14the whole story.
34:14I love it so much.
34:15I love how you took
34:17that corner
34:18and just carried it
34:20on over.
34:21I was like,
34:21where is the scene
34:22actually?
34:23Really helps move
34:24your eye around
34:25to the next part.
34:27Good job.
34:28Thank you so much.
34:29Good job.
34:30Team Incentry, thank you.
34:31The pressure was definitely
34:32on me to be able
34:33to crank the system
34:35and I let the team down.
34:37I don't think so.
34:38No.
34:38I don't think so.
34:39I think we move
34:39as a team.
34:40We're equally as responsible
34:42for every aspect
34:43of our build.
34:44Team Coastal,
34:45tell us about your build.
34:46Welcome back
34:47to our coastal community.
34:49Thank you for having us.
34:50Yes.
34:51The only way to get
34:52to that coastal community
34:53is by ferry.
34:54So we made the church,
34:56a home, the ferry,
34:58and the ticket booth.
34:59You ready for some movement?
35:01Our boat can move.
35:02Can we see?
35:03You want to try it?
35:03I want to back it up
35:04just a little bit.
35:05Okay.
35:05I mean, that's terrifying.
35:07Okay.
35:07Okay.
35:08It's like the Titanic.
35:12Okay, that thing moved.
35:15It's a move.
35:17It's a move.
35:18I'm going to move him back
35:19before he flies off.
35:20Turn that off.
35:21Yeah, turn it off.
35:22Oh, my God, my heart.
35:23So our story prompt was,
35:25that's the ticket.
35:26We went with that story prompt
35:28with the golden ticket
35:29that will be given out
35:31to some lucky person
35:32coming across.
35:33That golden ticket
35:34will match to the gift
35:35under the tree
35:36that maybe they went
35:37a vacation
35:38to one of our lovely
35:39other remote areas.
35:41There's so many
35:44darling things.
35:46A lot of work in there,
35:47I can tell.
35:48And every time
35:49it gets a little
35:49more Christmassy,
35:51I do feel like
35:52some of the work
35:54is a little heavy-handed.
35:55Mm-hmm.
35:56Now I'm starting
35:57to feel like
35:58it's a little too much.
35:59You know,
35:59I'm looking at
36:00your modeling chocolate
36:01that's covering the land,
36:03and it just looks
36:04a little unfinished,
36:05if you will.
36:06Architecturally,
36:07I like the shiplap.
36:08You're starting
36:09to read
36:10that this community
36:12maybe people
36:13are helping
36:13each other construct.
36:14So although
36:15it feels heavy-handed,
36:16I can still feel
36:17that it's a community
36:18of people
36:19that are working together.
36:20I have to say
36:21I'm like blown away.
36:23I love it.
36:25I'm like completely
36:26transported to this town.
36:28I'm, I can't,
36:29it's like I'm going to cry.
36:31I can't talk.
36:34You really are touched.
36:36Okay.
36:37Does it connect
36:38to something with you?
36:39Yeah, I guess it does.
36:39What is it?
36:40There's just something
36:40that really feels
36:41really real to me.
36:42It feels like this
36:43was made by hand.
36:44It doesn't feel like
36:44this was put through
36:45any machine.
36:46I feel like every single piece
36:47was made by your
36:48little tiny hands.
36:49It was.
36:49You guys are artists.
36:50This is beautiful.
36:51It clearly has touched me.
36:53I'm, I'm,
36:54this is really special.
36:57Team Coastal,
36:58thank you so much.
37:00Good job team.
37:04Okay, gingerbreaders,
37:05the judges are ready
37:06to start deliberations
37:07on your mind-blowing work.
37:09So we're going to need you
37:10to head back
37:11to your stations.
37:14So Darcy,
37:15we're in a tough spot now.
37:16Yeah.
37:16Now we got to get down
37:17to some business.
37:18Okay.
37:19So let's talk about
37:20each of them.
37:21Team Villa.
37:22I ask for Seamless
37:24every time.
37:25I didn't get it
37:26on this one,
37:27but I got so many
37:28other things
37:29that I had asked for.
37:30Yeah, I do think
37:31we need a better
37:32transition from
37:33piece to piece.
37:34Yeah.
37:35Team Chalet.
37:37The mountain is
37:38incredible.
37:38I think it really
37:39creates such a world.
37:41I'm just really proud
37:42of us coming together
37:43as a team.
37:44It was like a 180
37:45from last week.
37:46Oh yeah.
37:47So Team Mid-Century.
37:48I love Mid-Century,
37:50and I love seeing
37:51the variations
37:52that they understood.
37:53I can't overlook the fact
37:54that the gondola
37:55didn't move.
37:56We're definitely
37:57underdogs in this.
37:59That's all right.
38:00We were top dog last time.
38:02Team Coastal.
38:04My eyes are jumping around.
38:05I don't know where to rest
38:07and what to focus on here.
38:09I almost want to remove
38:11one of the buildings.
38:12It's interesting
38:13because you guys
38:13are professionals,
38:15but you are both wrong.
38:18Please, dear God,
38:19I want to stay.
38:20I know.
38:21I want to stay really bad.
38:24So now it's time
38:24to decide
38:25who's the winner
38:26and who is going home.
38:28Okay.
38:33Hello, everybody.
38:35Okay, teams,
38:35why don't you step on up?
38:39So, Gingerbreaders,
38:41the judges have made
38:42a decision.
38:43For this challenge,
38:44under the theme
38:45of how we travel,
38:47it was your toughest build yet.
38:48Let's start by revealing
38:49the top two teams.
38:51Both will be guaranteed
38:52a spot in our finale.
38:58Team Chalet.
39:03And the other team
39:05who's coming to the finale
39:06is...
39:10Team Coastal.
39:11Oh, my God.
39:12Oh, my God.
39:13I'm not crying.
39:20I'm not crying.
39:21Shall we reveal the winner?
39:23I think we shall.
39:24Okay.
39:25The winner of this challenge
39:27is Team Chalet.
39:30Let's go.
39:36You will get
39:36the special advantage
39:37in the fourth
39:38and final team challenge.
39:39So proud of us.
39:41So we came together
39:42as a team
39:42and we won.
39:43We won.
39:43And it really shows
39:44that when we come together,
39:46what we can accomplish.
39:47Okay.
39:48Now it's time
39:48for the tough part.
39:50Team Villa,
39:51Team Mid-Century.
39:52The bottom again.
39:53It doesn't feel good.
39:57So, unfortunately,
39:58you guys finished
39:59this challenge
40:00at the bottom.
40:01And sadly,
40:02for one of you,
40:03your journey
40:03ends today.
40:06Team Villa,
40:06from the very beginning,
40:08I've been asking
40:09for your new build
40:10to be seamless.
40:11that was a really big seam
40:13I saw.
40:14Team Mid-Century.
40:16Your craftsmanship
40:17on your folded plane roof
40:19is a bit too rough for us.
40:22And your gondola,
40:23although beautifully modeled
40:24and accurate,
40:26unfortunately,
40:27it did not move.
40:30Now it's time for,
40:32I would say,
40:33the hardest call
40:34so far
40:34in this competition.
40:35There's no question
40:37the roof
40:37could have been tighter.
40:38In this environment,
40:39you can have
40:40one tiny misstep
40:41that ends up
40:42derailing the whole build.
40:44The team
40:44leaving today
40:46is
40:48Team Mid-Century.
40:55So Team Mid-Century,
41:06I'm so sorry,
41:06but your chapter
41:07in Gingerbread Land
41:08is over.
41:09You know,
41:09we came here
41:10and we didn't know
41:11what to expect
41:12and we've grown,
41:13we've had a great journey.
41:14Honestly,
41:15I'm so proud
41:16of these two
41:16you're working with.
41:17I would work with you
41:17at any time.
41:18I'm so proud of you all too.
41:20And so Team Mid-Century
41:22heads home.
41:23But next time...
41:26Knock, knock!
41:26It's finale time!
41:28Three, two, one.
41:30Got $100,000 on the line.
41:32There's more pressure
41:32than there's ever been.
41:33The gloves are off
41:34and we're gonna show them
41:35what we can do.
41:36That looks perfect.
41:37It's a pressure cooker.
41:39I have to fix the lights.
41:41Christmas miracles do happen.
41:44The one and only
41:45Joanna Gaines.
41:47I love it.
41:48You brought Christmas
41:49to this town.
41:50This speaks to me so much.
41:51I'm leaving my
41:52American dream.
41:53The winner is...
