00:00Anyway, Texas was not the story of the weekend,
00:06although Sark has been on everything to talk his team up, as he should.
00:11He was on Cal Herd, said,
00:12I unequivocally believe we should be a playoff team,
00:15as he should fight for his team.
00:18But Lane Kiffin in the SEC was the big story,
00:21and he just had his introductory news conference in Baton Rouge with LSU.
00:27Here is Lane, this just happened.
00:31Here is Lane getting introduced as the head coach of LSU.
00:36I'm very honored to be the head coach of LSU.
00:40I can sum it up by saying this, this place is different.
00:43And having watched this place for a long time,
00:46having been on the other sidelines in this stadium,
00:49this place is different, and that's why we're here.
00:51We have a lot of work to do with that.
00:52But I'm very grateful for the opportunity to lead one of the elite programs
00:57in all of sports.
00:59Leaving Ole Miss was an extremely difficult decision.
01:03And in that, we tried every single thing possible
01:06to continue to coach the team through the playoffs
01:09and to continue to coach the players.
01:11In the end, that was their decision, and we totally respect that
01:15and appreciate the time and energy that we tried to figure out a plan
01:19to do the best thing at the time for those players.
01:22The last six years of my life have been the best six years of my life,
01:25and I owe that to all the players, all the assistant coaches,
01:29and the people of Oxford.
01:30But the opportunity at LSU, as I said before, is just different.
01:34It is just different.
01:36Best job in college football.
01:37Well, I'm sure the Ole Miss people feel great having to hear that.
01:42But the last six years were the best six years of his life.
01:45Clint, I know a lot of people are – I think a lot of the Lane issues
01:49come from a lot of stuff Lane has done in the past,
01:54and even a little bit here.
01:57But to me, Lane Kiffin took a better job.
02:01And I've sat here with you, Clint.
02:02You have covered college football in the SEC for years,
02:05and you think LSU is at worst a top five job in the league
02:11or in college football that people covet?
02:15It's one of the best jobs when you talk about the ability to recruit,
02:19the players, the money.
02:22They're going to give him a budget of $25 million.
02:24It's been reported for NIL to go out and get players.
02:27Listen, he took a dream job.
02:32And the way that the college football schedule and the dates come about,
02:40it forces him to make a decision to either take the dream job in that place
02:48or be the one that looks like an a-hole for leaving players
02:54in the middle of the season.
02:56And I don't think he's an a-hole for leaving the players
02:59in the middle of the season.
03:01I think the schedule and the dates force him to even look more of an a-hole
03:05than Lane Kiffin needs.
03:06Lane doesn't need help being an a-hole.
03:08And this scheduling makes him feel that way.
03:11And he didn't screw the players.
03:12It's like those players were going to leave him.
03:15Lane would have been a fool to not take this job.
03:19Absolute fool.
03:19I mean, people can talk about other coaches staying
03:23and using it just to get more money at their respective spot.
03:29This is a different animal in so many ways.
03:34If you're interested in winning national titles,
03:38he just removed some immovable hurdles, if you will,
03:44that exist at Ole Miss.
03:45The path is so much easier to get a championship-caliber program,
03:55players, support, everything around it at LSU
03:59than it is in 99.9% of places.
04:02I mean, it's just different.
04:04I agree with you, man.
04:05It's just different.
04:05You get a chance to not only become one of,
04:08if not the highest-paid coach in football,
04:10and you get to do it there, yeah, you've got to take that one.
04:12Yeah, and it's just a tough situation,
04:17and I think this is a situation, Clint,
04:20we're going to run into a lot more, right,
04:22to steal a word that Tyler said.
04:25Hey, man, if your team is going to the Pop-Tart Bowl
04:29or the Cheez-It Bowl or the Duke's Mayo Bowl
04:34or the Citrus Bowl, whatever, that feels different than,
04:38all right, man, there are 12 teams that have a shot to go
04:41and play for a national championship,
04:43and we're going to start to run into that
04:46because whenever teams like LSU and Florida
04:49or Penn State are looking for new coaches,
04:52they're probably looking for coaches
04:54that are either at the same level as them
04:56or maybe just below like an Ole Miss.
04:59Well, Ron, the beautiful thing about this,
05:02the beautiful thing about the Lane Kiffin saga, if you will,
05:05is that I believe college football will change
05:09for the better in response.
05:12I don't know how the NCAA doesn't put some kind of guardrails
05:17in place to keep this from happening, right?
05:19You always say, like, they allow it, they allow it,
05:21they allow it, then all of a sudden
05:22something really extreme forces you to change.
05:25I think this is that.
05:27They're going to have to change the schedule.
05:28Nick Saban's on college game day talking about it.
05:31Obviously, we're listening to Lane Kiffin.
05:33Clearly, you can see what happens to the program,
05:36the kids, the fan base, the student body,
05:39the administration, the University of Ole Miss.
05:42I mean, it's – the good thing is I think
05:47we're going to see some change.
05:49It's got to be, man.
05:50Well, it's not – this isn't one of those
05:52where you're asking for change that takes money
05:54out of kids' pockets or takes money out of coaches' pockets.
05:57Like, those are going to be very difficult.
05:58Like, changing NIL and it's – and kind of like what it is,
06:02that's not going to happen.
06:03That's going to take time and some real controversy.
06:06But saying, hey, man, a coach and a player cannot leave
06:10until the college football playoffs are wrapped.
06:13You hand – the minute you hand a trophy to somebody,
06:15a national championship trophy to somebody,
06:16then everybody – all is fair.
06:18And recruiting, too.
06:19All of them, yeah.
06:20Players and coaches.
06:21Yes.
06:21Signing day needs to be moved back because what –
06:24what is it?
06:24Early – was it January?
06:26Well, you can –
06:26During the bowl season.
06:27You can do what you want.
06:28You can do what you want with signing periods for high school athletes.
06:32I don't care what you do with them.
06:33I'm – the transfer portal and the coaches being able to –
06:39or being forced into positions to make decisions like this
06:42has got to change.
06:44Like, you can't – you can't have kids threatening
06:47and holding programs hostage for more money
06:49before the damn college football playoffs start.
06:52You can't have coaches exiting the building for teams that have worked
06:56all year long to get to the college football playoffs
06:59and they're assured they're locked in.
07:02Hell, they may have a – they got a home – they got a home field game
07:04the first – or at least they would have had a home – a home game
07:07in the college football playoffs.
07:09You can't have this happening.
07:10I think this is just so extreme.
07:11I think the – I think the NCAA ends up responding,
07:15and I think that it ends up impacting transfer portal as well,
07:18which is going to end up being beautiful.
07:19Yeah, I hope so.
07:22It is – it is – it is wild.
07:25It is wild to me that this has just been – it's been –
07:29hey, man, we've got a situation where a season happens
07:32where just by the dates there's a potential of –
07:36you don't get – you don't finish out your season.
07:38It's a shame, but it's a shame, Ron.
07:41It's so dysfunctional, the NCAA is,
07:46is that you didn't see this coming.
07:48You didn't make changes before it got to this.
07:51Like, you could have done this a year ago and said,
07:53look, this is what we're going to be up against if we leave it the way it is.
07:55We've got to get this fixed.
07:57But they don't.
07:58And they allow teams that have – their programs have fallen to a point
08:02where they're firing guys and paying them $50 million to leave.
08:05Those teams, those programs, different programs year in, year out,
08:09those programs are – I mean, impacting, crowning a champion every year.
08:17It's not just this year with Lane Kiffin.
08:18This is just the outlier.
08:19I mean, it's every year.
08:20Yeah.
08:21It's rough.
08:22All right, coming up as we continue, we'll get T-Mills' best bets.
08:25Remember, he has been smoking these NFL bets.
08:30We'll do that coming up in a bit.
08:32Remember, he has been smoking these NFL bets.
