Lane Kiffin recently did an interview with Vanity Fair and gave reasons why he left Ole Miss. The Morning Shift explained why they think Kiffin got the same backlash a player would've gotten if they left their team the way he did.

Ali Mac, Beau, and Mike also react to what LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin had to say to about the what he describes as unfair backlash he faced when he left Ole Miss for LSU.

00:00Now, Lane Kiffin sat down with Vanity Fair.
00:03He basically said, he doesn't care if you hate him.
00:06He knows he's polarizing, does not care.
00:08And what's kind of throwing it out there,
00:10that with NIL, these players get to move around,
00:14but the coaches are getting more backlash for doing it.
00:17And that's kind of a curious thing for him.
00:22There's a lot of curious things when it comes to him.
00:26I mean, Lane drives me crazy.
00:32I respect what he is as a coach,
00:33but he drives me crazy with some of the stuff he says
00:35because he is just full of a lot of stuff
00:37that he has very obviously benefited from
00:41and has very obviously taken steps up from,
00:44and he continues to ride this wave,
00:46and he's made a very healthy salary
00:49over the course of his coaching career.
00:51But, man, he leaves no bridge unburned.
00:55I mean, he really doesn't.
00:58It's kind of crazy.
00:59I mean, didn't he just move,
01:01and the entire season was speculation about him moving?
01:06And I don't really know what backlash has he gotten from it.
01:09He just signed a bigger contract for more years
01:13at a perceived better place.
01:15And it's not the first time Lane Kiffin has moved.
01:18And coaches deserve a little backlash
01:22because you tell a player you're in it with them,
01:27and the whole time they're here, you're going to be here with them.
01:29And for years and years and years, it's been that way.
01:32I think coaches are just reaping a little bit
01:34of what they've sowed for the last 40 years
01:36of what the college football landscape has looked like.
01:39So I don't think anybody's crying a river
01:41for guys making $10 million to $12 million a year
01:46after they moved that some people maybe had a little backlash for them.
01:50Look, Kiffin, this is the wrong tree to bark for Kiffin.
01:54I do agree that players move too much these days,
01:58and I don't like players basically quitting
02:01in the middle of seasons to go move.
02:03But as long as coaches are doing something very similar,
02:08which they are, then Lane Kiffin can't cry woof.
02:12Nobody feels sorry for you.
02:14No one.
02:15No one feels sorry for Lane Kiffin
02:17or other coaches that have done it.
02:19So wait, wait, wait.
02:20Because a second ago you said you haven't seen any backlash for him.
02:24But then that sounds like backlash.
02:25Well, I'm saying, like, what backlash did Lane Kiffin really get
02:28other than, like, literally the entire year was spent
02:33talking about when he was going to leave Ole Miss.
02:36The entire year.
02:37What negative affected him?
02:40What negative effect did it have on him?
02:42No, no, no.
02:42It didn't have a negative effect on him.
02:44His deal happened.
02:45What I'm talking about is, like, he gets hate on social media.
02:47He gets hate on social media because he runs his mouth 24-7.
02:50So that's backlash.
02:52That's not backlash on him moving.
02:54That's backlash on him being a jerk.
02:55Yeah, I'm on Ali's side of that one because the backlash
02:59when he left the team during a playoff run was pretty immense.
03:05Didn't people go to the airport to boo him?
03:07Yeah.
03:07Yeah, but he left.
03:09All right.
03:10That's not – people booing you is not real backlash.
03:15So what affected his life?
03:17You think Lane Kiffin was affected that people went to the airport
03:20to boo him?
03:21Do you need a different word?
03:22Is it negative attention that he got?
03:24Is the word backlash what we hung up on here?
03:26This is a man that seeks out negative attention.
03:29Everything he does is trolling people.
03:32I don't think there's – yeah, that's not –
03:33I don't think that's – to me, that's not part of the conversation.
03:36I think both he can seek it out and we can understand that he got it.
03:39I want to see – I want to know how he was affected by attention
03:43that he seeks out in regular day life because he left Ole Miss early.
03:48I want to know –
03:48I mean, he was essentially removed from the job.
03:53And I'm sure that – look, no matter what you think of him as a man,
03:56I'm sure that that kind of sucked in the moment that he was literally being made
04:00to like, hey, you know that I'm going to leave here.
04:02I'd like to coach his team to the end of the year, in my understanding.
04:04And they were like, no, absolutely not.
04:06You don't get the choice to stay a part of a team that you –
04:09when you've joined another –
04:10I'm not saying it wasn't the right thing.
04:12You asked how it negatively affected him, and I said in that moment,
04:15but I do believe that negatively impacts him in that moment.
04:18But it was his decision.
04:18If he wanted to be there, he would still be there.
04:20Like, I can't feel sorry for you if you bell on someone and say,
04:24but I want to stay until I'm done with this.
04:26That's not your choice anymore.
04:27Nobody is asking you to feel sorry for him.
04:29We're just trying to point out that there was a negative impact on him
04:33because he wanted to go this way, and they said, no, you're going to go that way.
04:38So you made a decision where you took your control out of it,
04:43and then you didn't get to control the situation, and that's backlash is what he's saying.
04:48Again, I can't speak for her, but I'm –
04:50I'm not saying Allison.
04:51I'm just saying that that –
04:52I think what both of us are saying is it's not that it's not warranted
04:55and not that he's not a hypocrite for doing it,
04:57but to say that there's not any backlash to Lane Kiffin last year,
05:00I think that's a little bit –
05:01But the players get the same –
05:02But hold on.
05:02The players are getting the same backlash.
05:04If they're –
05:06Nobody's saying that.
05:07I didn't say that.
05:07But that's what he said.
05:08He said that – that's what his statement is.
05:10He said they're not judged as critically.
05:13That is absolutely false.
05:15They are just –
05:17And I'm not –
05:18And I know you're not saying this,
05:20so I'm taking my angst towards Lane Kiffin's comments,
05:24but players are absolutely criticized when they leave during a playoff run.
05:30This is Lane Kiffin just throwing out trash
05:34and hoping people are going to just gobble it up like it's real.
05:38I also want to point out nothing makes you a bigger target,
05:40and I appreciate people that get on the healthy trail,
05:43but when you are a health fanatic and you promote it nonstop,
05:48there's nothing more annoying.
05:49There's nothing more annoying than someone being like,
05:51oh, I had under 1,500 calories today or got my workout in this morning.
05:56Or you've watched that person eat like just garbage,
05:59and then all of a sudden they're like, you know, that's not really good for you.
06:01Oh, now you're telling me what's good for me?
06:04I'm with you on that.
06:05But I am all about someone seeking their own health journey.
06:09So good for you, Lane.
06:10I'm glad you're on it.
06:11I'll be on my own journey over here.
06:13Yeah, I just, I can't feel sorry for someone who literally puts every negative spotlight on himself,
06:21and then I can't feel sorry for coaches who have literally made millions upon millions of dollars
06:28of the exact system that is in,
06:30and then want to criticize and say, well, the players should receive the same backlash.
06:34They've been doing it for like three years.
06:36I don't like either, I don't like either one of them.
06:41But don't, don't do something and then cry woof.
06:44But don't do something and cryICIA
