One thousand laptops are to be distributed across Tobago schools this week. This as the Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath was at the Mason Hall Secondary School on Monday, where the first tranche of laptops were distributed to form one students. Elizabeth Williams has this report.
00:00Secretary, we have walked to Tobago, well actually we flew it across, sufficient
00:09laptops close to a thousand for every Form 1 student in Tobago. And we are
00:17starting right here at Mason Hall Secondary. So starting from today by the
00:23end of this week every student in Form 1 student in Tobago will have their laptops.
00:28Minister Daulat said Prime Minister Kamala Passat Bisasa championed the cause for the
00:34children of the nation since 2010. The laptops were distributed under the theme
00:39Learning Without Limits, a laptop for every child. Minister Daulat said the
00:45laptops are equipped with additional security measures. So when you when you
00:51look at those contracts that have been signed you will see that it also
00:54includes things like tracking devices. It's an amplified version of the first laptop
01:00initiative so that all of those devices have security measures to ensure that there are anti-tech devices in them.
01:09All nine secondary schools in Tobago inclusive of Harmon's School of SDA, Signal Hill,
01:15Bishops High, Roxborough Secondary and Speyside High are being facilitated. Education Secretary Zorisha Hackett said this is an investment in meaningful learning.
01:27My students, what we are placing in your hands today is possibility. Possibility for discovery, for curiosity, for ambition, for learning that reaches beyond the four walls of a classroom.
01:46These laptops open a wider world to you. One that you or children must be prepared to navigate and one that we are obligated to equip you for.
