00:00It's written in the stars. I am the star.
00:06Damien Chazelle debuted the trailer for his upcoming feature Babylon at the Toronto International Film Festival.
00:12Set in late 1920s Hollywood during the movie industry's transition from silent films to talkies and starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie among others,
00:21Babylon explores the rise and fall of multiple characters and has been described as the great Gatsby on steroids.
00:27When I first moved to LA, signs on all the doors said, no actors or dogs allowed. I changed that.
00:35The trailer is a non-stop party that includes, but is not limited to, an alligator on a leash, drugs, topless women,
00:42and Pitt shooting guns, dancing in his underwear, and falling off a balcony.
00:46On the making of Babylon, Chazelle explained at TIFF,
00:49I have always loved silent films. I am one of the disciples of the idea of pure cinema.
00:54The high points of the silent era are some of the high points of cinema, period.
00:58As far as casting the film, he said,
01:00Babylon is the biggest number of roles I have juggled by far.
01:03The casting process took a long, long time.
01:06It's a mostly fictional film where almost all of the characters are inspired by composites of real-life people.
01:12Paramount will release Babylon on December 25th.
