Warner Bros. Discovery's ad declares new Max service as the streamer "to rule them all."
Transcript
00:00The supposed war between HBO's House of the Dragon and Amazon's Lord of the Rings just reached a whole new level.
00:07Warner Bros. Discovery's Max, formerly known as HBO Max, just posted new ads for their streaming service,
00:14which seems to be making a slight dig at Amazon.
00:17The ad shows a regal Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones on the Iron Throne with the words,
00:22the one to watch when you want to rule them all.
00:24Anybody remotely familiar with Lord of the Rings knows the phrase, one ring to rule them all.
00:30He poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life.
00:37One ring to rule them all.
00:41But the ad is vague enough that it can't exactly be proven that it's intentionally mocking Lord of the Rings.
00:47As we know, Daenerys, of course, really did want to rule them all, so it could all just be mere coincidence.
00:52But it is slightly suspicious considering the Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and the Lord of the Rings Rings of Power series
00:59were looking like head-to-head rivals for fantasy fans everywhere last fall.
01:04Recently, Warner Bros. announced that they were also developing their own Lord of the Rings movies.
01:09The films will likely focus on J.R.R. Tolkien's Third Age, the period of Peter Jackson's films, instead of the Rings of Power Second Age.
