00:00Ryan Murphy has spilled new details about the latest version of American Crime Story.
00:05FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace will actually be told in reverse.
00:10Murphy, joined by much of his anthology's new cast for a panel Wednesday evening,
00:14said that the first episode of the new season will begin with Versace's murder
00:18and then show how it came to be.
00:20Murphy also revealed that his big follow-up to The People vs. O.J. Simpson
00:24will be about a greater issue, homophobia,
00:26and how that ultimately led to the famous designer's fatal shooting.
00:30The series creator told a crowd of reporters on the Fox lot,
00:34Cunanan is known to have killed at least four people before he shot Versace
00:54on July 15, 1997, in Miami Beach.
00:57Like the racism that played such a role in the O.J. Simpson trial,
01:01Murphy added that the homophobia at the time of Versace's murder
01:04is just as relevant today, particularly with the president we have.
01:08Another topic of the panel was the feelings of the Versace family,
01:12specifically sister and fashion house heir Donatella.
01:15Murphy did not mince words, saying,
01:16Ricky Martin, who plays Antonio D'Amico, Versace's longtime partner,
01:25was present at the panel.
01:27Martin revealed that he had just spoken to D'Amico for the first time earlier in the day
01:31to ease any of his reservations.
01:33Martin said,
01:34As for the title, Murphy said it is very intentional that they do not use the word murder.
01:45I think the word assassination has a political overtone.
01:48It denotes someone who's taken a life to prove a point.
01:51And I think that's what Andrew Cunanan did.
01:53The assassination of Gianni Versace premieres on FX in January.
