00:06:41the Irish supporters behind that goal absolutely delirious Troy parent they could be in here
00:06:49it's 2-2 the inspiration has come from Troy parent and now let's see what that hungry table made of
00:06:56great scales wins a head of the jam
00:06:58yes
00:07:02that's Troy parent that is unbelievable
00:07:05he's scored a half two and right at the deck Ireland have done it
00:07:09i've never seen anything like it this is just stunning 3-2 the time is up
00:07:14the referee has to finish the game i'm not right there
00:07:17five goals and two games for Troy parent and if you think your house was excited imagine
00:07:28what it was like for these guys would you please welcome troy's mommy jennifer her
00:07:34granny josie granny lily and auntie terry welcome auntie terry how are we all doing
00:07:39look at the grin mommy jennifer you've got the grin on your face there have you calmed down from
00:07:49seeing that oh every time i see even then i'm at the scene on the screen there it's just unbelievable
00:07:54it's crazy isn't it it's very emotional yeah it really was i mean we all know where we were
00:07:59whenever those goals went in i know he's back in the netherlands playing for his club over there
00:08:04but you got a wee bit of time to celebrate with him after the game we did he came back to the hotel
00:08:08we were staying in the hotel but the team was staying in so he came back to the hotel and
00:08:13we just went just down the road and we got kfc and we came back to the hotel and just said there
00:08:18you know how to live jennifer i tell you we just sat in the in the lobby to live through half eleven
00:08:24just talking about what happened amazing amazing amazing stuff uh now granny josie uh you are a star
00:08:32yourself this week i mean tell us you made it on the news is that right yeah i went pub crawling
00:08:38it so talk us through this where did you see the goals i seen one in what's that pop
00:08:53in morris yeah then i left there to go to judges yeah i've seen you the one now on the way of judas
00:08:59he scored okay so you went to another pub for the second goal but on the way i always had to score
00:09:04and so i missed that one yeah but i was taught i was in judges i got three pints
00:09:12you got to talk on in there with the atmosphere it's great and then i went to the liam's to
00:09:16bridge several yeah and then gave me a bottle of champagne and little bottles of wine lovely because
00:09:22i don't drink that gave me point of hunger yeah the shop was rocking uh granny lily uh did you see
00:09:29any of the goals granny lily i did i saw two of them yeah okay yeah and on the tour so that we went to
00:09:37the aviva and i went to the ladies at the end of the night at the where it was 2-1 and terry ran and he's
00:09:45after scoring he's after scoring so that was great so we were in the eleanor on sunday night for the
00:09:49match and at the end of it i thought the match was over because it was the last kick i mean we all
00:09:54thought it was over yeah yeah i'm going to lady when the ladies and she flew in it's after scoring
00:09:59again so that was magic great so the next time i go to a match i'm going to stay in the toilet all day
00:10:03okay we'll give you the date we'll give you the date and when you need to be in the loo uh auntie
00:10:17terry now you uh you you somebody owes you big time tell it tell us what happened here you were meant to
00:10:23be where i should have been at the match with jennifer and the rest of jennifer's family yeah but um
00:10:29a girl that i walk with asked me to do her a favor to walk that day so you were meant to go
00:10:35to budapest and you swapped shift yeah to stay at work yeah right okay um how's this going to work
00:10:43then so she owes me for the rest of my life but look at i probably sometimes i feel that i'm going to
00:10:50bring a bad look when i'm there and anyway but anyway on the way home my friend rang me and my friend
00:10:56mary and she told me that they were at this garden i couldn't believe it okay so we've worked out
00:11:02jennifer we worked out exactly what's happening here you're staying at work you're staying in the
00:11:05toilet you're staying in the pub for the next match okay this is good yeah jennifer is the only one
00:11:09who's going to be there yeah okay so jennifer you're going to be there uh we've got czechia uh next march
00:11:15you're going to be going to that josey oh yes i've built flight now all but oh yes oh yes okay
00:11:20i'm missing this one all right this is good news uh guys uh you have uh troy has brought so much joy
00:11:27and to see you guys here tonight just with a smile on your face and seeing you so proud uh
00:11:33it's done us the power of goods uh let's hear it for uh the parrot family
00:11:36okay my next guest is a huge success in every sense of the word the mastermind behind pointless
00:11:52the host of house of games and the author of one of the most successful series of books
00:11:58of all time swapping the thursday murder club for the friday chat club would you please welcome richard
00:12:03osmer welcome to the show thank you can i talk to troy's family for a second yes you can of course
00:12:29you can yeah there they are have you ever been to fulham it's really lovely it's a lovely part of
00:12:34london i think troy would enjoy himself there just for a couple of seasons okay this is good we'll get
00:12:40the deal done josie's the woman you need to talk to there she'll get that sorted out for us she's got
00:12:4615 in her pocket already hasn't she it's all good it's all good big big money transfer uh look we've got
00:12:52to talk about this uh congratulations on the book this is the fifth book in the series yeah the impossible
00:12:59fortune is it 15 million or 17 million it was copies it was 15 million just before i came on
00:13:06yes but i'm hearing it's 17 now yes uh does this mean that the impossible fortune is indeed
00:13:13your fortune richard paddy how dare you how dare i dare you that's i mean that's troy parrot money
00:13:18isn't it that is troy parrot money it certainly is um did you ever think that it was going to get
00:13:23this big when you started out no i just wanted to write you know it's a i'm incredibly proud of the
00:13:27books i love them i love writing those characters i love crime fiction that's why i write that so i
00:13:31just i wanted to write the best book i could and for as many people as possible to like it and then
00:13:37it turns out you know that is 15 million people which is great but it's lovely but the thing i love
00:13:41is writing it the thing i love is having those characters putting them out in the world meeting
00:13:45readers and this is you know writing as i started out as a writer i had this weird sort of coldly
00:13:51sack of becoming a television presenter which don't tell anyone but is the easiest job in the world
00:13:57and with respect to be fair and uh and now now i get to do a proper job again which is lovely no
00:14:03which is good uh we love a mommy story as uh you can tell on this show we love a mommy story in ireland
00:14:09your mommy had something to do with this she was a bit of an inspiration for the first book yeah well
00:14:14she lives in a retirement village and i would go down there all the time and everyone there's over 70
00:14:18i'd go down there and these people had such incredible stories and done these amazing things
00:14:23uh and yet they were all drinking red wine at 11 30 in the morning and i thought this is a good gang
00:14:29of people isn't it and where she lives is you know sort of you know sort of green hills and you can
00:14:33hear the birdsong and i thought this would be an amazing place for a murder uh and uh rather than
00:14:39commit one rather than commit one i just thought well if there was a murder here then this lot would solve
00:14:44it and it gave me the idea for the thirsty murder club four people in their late 70s early 80s
00:14:48look over old cold cases and suddenly there's a real murder on their doorstep and yeah that i
00:14:53just had that inspiration and and and off i went i'm glad i did and when your mom read the first book
00:14:58she was reading it quite intently but not in a kind of following the plot way yeah well because
00:15:03because i said oh i you know when i came here i had this idea so she thought i was actually writing
00:15:07about all her friends she was reading it for legal reasons she's reading the whole thing just to make
00:15:11sure i hadn't kind of you know said anything about any of her neighbors i had to say afterwards you know i
00:15:16made this up yeah you know this is like just fiction people from my head but the people in that village
00:15:20now when i first did it they said don't tell people where the village is because what if we
00:15:24get tourists we don't want tourists we're very private people and i firstly i said look it won't
00:15:28be a hit don't worry about that but now when it did sell all those copies now they're like they're
00:15:33selling t-shirts and mugs now there's now i go down and they they pitch me murders i go down there
00:15:38say here's an idea if i'd kill someone richard you'll like this one all of them all good all good uh so the
00:15:43mom was the inspiration uh i believe that the mother of ireland marion keys also offered you
00:15:48some inspirational advice for writing i mean the nicest woman in the whole world so i'm trying to
00:15:52persuade the bbc to put marion on celebrity traitors okay don't you think she would have to be a faithful
00:15:59i would have thought no but imagine yes exactly the woman who said no is exactly right imagine marion
00:16:05as a as a traitor she'd be the greatest traitor of all time yes no one would believe it of her
00:16:10uh no so so she said ages ago we're talking about how hard it is to the only thing about writing if
00:16:15you're writing is you've got to sit down and do it that's the only rule you've got to sort of put your
00:16:18backside in the chair and actually start and she said which is harder than yeah yeah well it's like
00:16:23going to the gym you've got to put your trainers on right and that's the worst bit of it and once
00:16:26you're done they think oh now i'm going to have to do it yeah and she said well i always light a candle
00:16:30said before i start writing i light a candle so before the candle is lit i'm not writing is that for holy
00:16:35inspiration or is that i mean you know what you never know with marion okay yeah and she says
00:16:40before it's lit i'm not writing when it's lit i am writing i said that's a that's a really lovely
00:16:44idea and then two days later i get a thing in the post and it's a candle from marion saying happy
00:16:49writing that's nice so i cannot believe she's a traitor i can't know you say i can't believe it
00:16:55and that is why she will be that's why she'd be amazing yeah uh we got to talk about uh the book
00:17:00we made it into a movie that was just crazy stuff an amazing cast netflix biggest movie last year
00:17:06helen mirren uh the world's sexiest man pierce brosnan yeah i think you're gonna say ben kingsley
00:17:11ben kingsley ben kingsley this is the line up here and uh you've got a gentleman there uh just steven
00:17:17spielberg just beside you hanging out right i look like a competition winner it's uh i had to say pierce
00:17:24brosnan who is he's the he's the most handsome man i've ever met in my entire life until i saw troy
00:17:29parrot uh and they all had books because they were all reading my book i thought oh isn't that
00:17:34amazing helen mirren and they were all reading my book and then he thought well of course they have
00:17:37to contractually they have to read the book because they're in it uh but so i was signing the books for
00:17:41all of them and when you sign books though the thing you mustn't do is sign people's name wrong
00:17:46so you get one chance to do it and i spelt pierce's name wrong no well he was so handsome and i was so
00:17:51distracted that i just i spelt his name wrong and i realized as i was doing it i realized i was doing it
00:17:57but i thought i can't even admit to it now so i had to go to my local bookshop the next day
00:18:02buy a copy of my own book and sign it again for pierce with the right name and say i'm so sorry you
00:18:07are so you're so handsome i got distracted i i love the fact that the local bookshop charged you for
00:18:13that's good they were like this is how he's selling 15 million books he keeps buying
00:18:17he's buying his own yeah uh i mean pierce of course uh very famously played james bond did i read
00:18:23somewhere that you potentially could have been a spy at one point yeah well i mean i i was uh after
00:18:29university though i was i was tapped up by uh by uh mi6 i think i'm too tall to be a spy is the truth
00:18:38i can't i can't lie or hide so i'd be the worst spy in the world but yeah they they sort of tapped me up
00:18:43in in quite a quite a boring way but yeah i could have been i could have been a spy i'm not saying i'm
00:18:47not perhaps i am okay i'd say that's good cover if i'm a spy i mean you imagine that if that comes out in
00:18:5220 years time you've done this interview you didn't get it out of it's it's true and you know
00:18:56i mean mi6 spies would would get such a such a warm welcome in ireland i mean i would suggest staying
00:19:03undercover for for this interview yeah just for the record i'm i'm not you know that's fine or or am i
00:19:09or am i there's a theme there's a theme um so in terms of uh you know the writing all of these things
00:19:19it kind of came later in life there was pointless there was house of games i mean you didn't really
00:19:25want to be in front of the camera no it was it was it was a complete accident really i was i was a
00:19:29writer then i was a tv producer for many many many years um which is another job that's harder than
00:19:35being a tv presenter and then when we pitched pointless to the bbc sometimes when you pitch game
00:19:39shows and you've done this yeah you get presenters to play the uh you get producers rather to play the
00:19:45presenters and we pitched pointless to the bbc and they liked it and that you know i played the
00:19:51richard osmond role uh in this run through and they said oh we need we really need someone like
00:19:56richard to do the richard osmond role and then someone on the team said well why don't you ask
00:20:02richard he's really like richard and they were like and because they had a big name because
00:20:05alexander armstrong was hosting it yeah they could i think they could go with someone who was unknown
00:20:09so they said would you like to do it i thought i mean what's the worst that can happen we'll do 20
00:20:13episodes of this something to tell the grandkids i was on tv once and then two thousand episodes
00:20:18later two thousand i was still there yeah i haven't done it for a while but at that point you were so
00:20:23nervous about going out in front of an audience that you actually had a fake name on the on the
00:20:27dressing room door well we would always have fake names we had fake names me and zander on our
00:20:31dressing room doors because on the very first show a contestant knocked on alexander armstrong's door
00:20:36and invited himself into his dressing room and started eating his biscuits with him and just said
00:20:40oh i'm looking forward to the show and alexander armstrong who's the most well-bought-up man in
00:20:44the world has to go oh can i make you a cup of tea so from that day onwards his the name on his
00:20:49dressing room door was sir peter morehouse and the name on my dressing room door was the reverend wendy
00:20:53benson so i was i was for for 12 years i was the reverend wendy benson until you until you moved on
00:21:00um now a lot of people on on house of games win i mean the prizes are okay on house of games yes oh no
00:21:07they're tats okay they're tired they're tired they're deliberate tat you uh you want something
00:21:12uh a lot more significant on on house of games the the love of your life i did yes yes i met my wife
00:21:18on on house of games the the uh actress uh ingrid oliver and i saw her name on a list of people who
00:21:23are going to come on the show and there she is cute uh and yeah i said they said who would you like
00:21:31on this list and i said well yeah i've got like ingrid oliver i've secretly said to that my producer i
00:21:35said i've got a bit of a crush on ingrid and yeah we literally started dating the following week so
00:21:42our entire first date is on camera this is kind of five days worth of uh of house of games i said in
00:21:48my speech i said i still it's very rare you remember the very first thing you said to your soul mate
00:21:52right the very very first time you met the person you spent your life with who remembers what they
00:21:57said and i remember exactly what i said to ingrid first thing i ever said was uh i'm looking for two
00:22:01answers and they rhyme with each other uh a musical instrument played by shaking and the capital of
00:22:07venezuela and i remember the first thing she said to me which was caracas and maracas and she had you
00:22:13at caracas she had me at caracas she absolutely did and and and the maracas were just a bonus
00:22:17um what a lovely story what a lovely story before uh before we wrap up here uh as you can tell we've
00:22:30got a bit of world cup fever uh here yes and congratulations to you and fingers crossed against
00:22:35czechia fingers crossed uh you are responsible for the world cup of crisps i believe yes i used to do
00:22:41that on uh on twitter we used to raise money for charity by doing well covered chocolate world cup of crisps
00:22:45and all sorts of things like that so this was a world cup where you put different flavors of
00:22:50crisps together there was a group stage yeah people voted playoffs people voted for uh the favorite
00:22:54crisps we've got a we've got a bone to pick with you here tonight because um in a crucial tie break
00:23:00in the world cup potato cheese and onion uh didn't even get out of the group stages they they were knocked
00:23:06out they were knocked out by they were knocked out by walker's smoky bacon what are you thinking i mean let's
00:23:13bring this in let's bring this in here we go you're booing democracy in quite right no yeah exactly
00:23:19so so like what we've got here we've got the var of crisps wow there it is so one of these we've got uh
00:23:27b for bacon and we've got a for absolutely the right choice to make so if you just if you would like to
00:23:33just uh try i mean perfectly it's absolutely fine just okay if you've got nothing else yeah
00:23:42suddenly suddenly
00:23:47sorry is there a party in my mouth
00:23:49that is the correct answer hey all day that is the correct answer uh richard spook the impossible

00:28:21force of nature whose comedy journey has taken her from balancolic in cork to dublin's three olympia
00:28:27and london's alexandra palace she's also racked up hundreds of millions of online laughs and has
00:28:33come into a stage near you in 2026 with the latest irish tour making her late late show debut let's
00:28:39hear it for kyla cobbler
00:28:46welcome to the show thank you very much thank you for having me uh you guys have had a little
00:29:04we've never met never met at all met about three seconds ago three seconds ago it was intense it
00:29:09was really intense it was intense but it was good and it could become more intense who knows let's
00:29:13just see how it goes yeah so you've just flown in uh from just flown in from liverpool yeah liverpool
00:29:20would you believe that only this morning liverpool was great it was a wild show i'm on tour at the
00:29:24moment so it was absolutely nuts but i to be honest i was like i'm on the late show tomorrow so i don't
00:29:28care about any of you guys i've peaked in ireland already so i was like i'm done i can retire late late show
00:29:34it's all good i mean it's been a quick it's been a quick rise like four four years ago you you weren't
00:29:39really doing comedy at all now you're selling out all of these venues i was a bartender okay yeah i
00:29:44loved it i was the best bartender in the world also i know especially in dublin no offense dublin
00:29:50like dublin and london it's like 20 or for a cocktail that's on fire and gluten-free like not that
00:29:55not that kind of bartender i was a real bartender paddy okay where there was like six pints of guinness
00:29:59eight shots of whiskey i was on the phone i was like no he's not been in i haven't seen him no no no
00:30:04the carpets on the floor even in the bathroom real real bartending irish pub oh yeah irish pub and so
00:30:11that was kind of the training for the stand-up then absolutely yeah yeah because sometimes as well
00:30:15we're in the pub where i worked it was like it wasn't very trendy so there'd be no music on it'd be
00:30:20raining outside you'd have people from all walks of life and you just have to chat you know how we do
00:30:24it in ireland yeah no we know exactly how we do it and so richard richard's mom was kind of
00:30:29so so your mom was the inspiration for the books your mom kind of pushed you towards comedy but it
00:30:50didn't quite work i know when i was 15 so i'm 34 now i know shock uh when i was 15 my mom signed
00:30:57me up for a stand-up comedy course in dublin this is mama mary mama mary my mom there she is a little
00:31:03legend she's gorgeous there she is uh yeah let's talk for mom
00:31:10yeah yeah there she is mary's gonna give us a song tonight let's go moulin rouge times two
00:31:17uh yeah she signed me up for a course in dublin and i was like you are a lost woman not a chance
00:31:23i never thought i was gonna do it it's crazy hey moms know genuinely moms know they kind of do know
00:31:28because she saw something in you and then we saw something in you when you well there's one
00:31:32particular video yeah that we all just loved richard this is uh this is uh kyla uh on instagram i mean how
00:31:39many million views does this have nine minutes i don't know like like how many books did you sell 15
00:31:44million about that 15 million about that yeah yeah about that competition but it is like that yeah
00:31:51here we go check it out i know no we'll only go for one
00:31:58her boyfriend ah yeah he's unbelievable crap
00:32:03i know yeah i gotta rest his soul so he was a good man
00:32:05very good though very good you know what it is as well like you spend so much time trying to like
00:32:21think of funny ideas and funny videos and i was on my break at work and a guy walked in that you know
00:32:27just someone walks towards me at work and you're like oh here we go and he's like how are you and i
00:32:31was like grant how are you we were all chatting my boss like do you know him and i was like oh he's
00:32:34a nightmare i was like but he's a lovely guy and then it just came from that but then if you look
00:32:39in the video i went downstairs to get takeaway cops and it's all fireproofed so it looks like i've got
00:32:43loads of dandruff in my hair in the video and i meant bloody viral this is good though it's all good
00:32:48it works uh you well i mean there's quite a lot of i'm sure you've met quite a lot of winkers uh in in
00:32:54british tv and british tv oh yeah i can't i can't wink can you not wait no i can't do it that's a lack of
00:33:00crack that's it yeah i wondered what it was so richard richard met his wife at work you met
00:33:12i met my almost husband am i allowed to say fiance i hate the word fiance i'm far too irish to say the
00:33:18word almost husband almost husband i'm betrothed to him uh who's south african so tomorrow it might be
00:33:26the end of the relationship let's see oh we're going to have a great night i don't know let's
00:33:31see it's going to be very exciting let's see he's in there he is so handsome he's a he's handsome he's
00:33:36pretty isn't he it's very annoying because every time people meet him they're like oh my god he's so
00:33:40handsome i'm like what am i the ugly twin in the attic why is everyone so surprised that i've got a
00:33:44handsome husband yeah he's right of course he is fiance fiance yeah yeah personality as well
00:33:52and uh and so he popped the question where it was he popped the question so we're in south africa
00:33:58driving around on a road trip and i had a broken leg and i was wearing a fisherman's hat and he walked
00:34:04up and he had he actually had a black plastic bag and i don't know why but i looked and i was like did you
00:34:09shit in that bag and he was like i know that's your first thought i don't know what and he's never
00:34:15ever done anything of like that and i was just like oh my god and then he was like no and then he
00:34:20did the whole beautiful he didn't get down one knee because i'd be absolutely mortified as a true
00:34:24irish woman would uh and then i said yeah and now here we are we're almost married but it's taken ages
00:34:30it's very hard to get married in ireland what is that i don't know oh look at that look at that so cute
00:34:37cute yeah yeah i don't know what it is because he's got all different documentation and we live
00:34:42in spain so there's different i swear like i when they robbed the lure if i was like they did that
00:34:46faster than we i must get married like come on like yeah so well at least richard and i know what to
00:34:55get you as a wedding present it's a black bag with that yeah sorry have you yeah so are you going to go
00:35:02full bridezilla on this or you're not you're not a fan of fashion i'm not a big fan of the beauty
00:35:08industry and what they do to women it's not really my vibe all this sculpting and changing and all that
00:35:14comes with it squeezing in and pretending and yeah now did i spend two hours getting my makeup done yes
00:35:23i did but that's a different ball game yeah you're not a fan of the activewear absolutely no the active
00:35:28wear the sculpting and shaping i mean i find that ridiculous when i go to buy activewear to work out and
00:35:32they're like this will make you tighter and sculptor and skinnier and upper and i'm like the whole
00:35:35point of exercising is that i'm going to take i'm going to get there do you know what i mean but
00:35:39they're forcing you into one of these so i won't take it i absolutely won't take it i like my little
00:35:44belly i like my stew you know what i mean he loves my belly as well
00:35:49you two guys took your little bellies around a marathon course
00:36:03we ran a marathon last year we run the double marathon yes we did and it was the worst experience
00:36:09of my life anybody that runs a marathon you need to do go home and repair the relationship with your
00:36:15family stop running marathons it is so awful and everyone kept saying to me if you run half you
00:36:21can run a full one and that is not true now and people kept saying as well it's a mental game it's
00:36:27not it's very physical it's extremely physical i remember running the london marathon once i got
00:36:32halfway around and just it's awful isn't it yeah it's so bad do you ever want a marathon of course not
00:36:37i haven't lost my mind they should just all agree that marathon make marathon shorter
00:36:41it's the ultimate it's the ultimate challenge isn't it because let's just say it's eight miles
00:36:45call it so we'll just go make it smaller yeah we'll just go eight miles and that's oh my god if you
00:36:48finish that it's unbelievable and then everyone no one has to go through it i just want to pay my
00:36:52rent and stay hydrated and i'm buzzing like honestly that's what i'm at in my life yeah yeah yeah that's
00:36:58the real life is a marathon right yeah exactly yeah yeah yeah totally that's ronan keaton's new song is it
00:37:05you just gotta ride it uh you guys you have a little surprise did you give him his surprise yes
00:37:12i managed to get tickets to the rugby match tomorrow okay so that is very exciting very very in a little
00:37:22black bag and a little black bag full of poo it's gonna be great i'm gonna throw them at the rugby
00:37:27players as they come out yeah yeah yeah i'm really excited about it and it was very hard to get tickets
00:37:32to the rugby match wouldn't be ahead for you now with your 15 million but for some of us i don't know
00:37:37over here though i i assume you're playing south africa yeah oh yeah i hope so because those great
00:37:42tickets were hard to get
00:37:45yeah do we have a score prediction for that maybe i don't even know how the game works
00:37:49honest to god i'm just delighted that i got him he'll be delighted i was thrilled
00:37:52giving the tickets let's say three nil boom crushed it full of my playing way let's say let's say nil three
00:38:04how are you going to stay with us yeah i'm here let's do it okay uh kyla is uh going to be turning
00:38:09a new show not my lemons it is all across ireland next year including five dates at the three olympia
00:38:15in dublin there's an extra date on march the 23rd it was added today and i'm thinking that may be
00:38:20sold out there we go uh for information tickets all venues you can check out kyla cobbler.com one
00:38:27more time kyla
00:38:36my next guest is an irish italian stand-up he's gone from playing triangle in the orchestra to becoming
00:38:43one of the biggest noises in the world of comedy since been nominated for best newcomer at the edinburgh
00:38:48festival he's gone on to gather hundreds of applause it's thousands of fans and millions of laughs
00:38:52we're delighted to welcome him on the show tonight please give it up for vittorio angeloni
00:39:18welcome to the show vittorio how you doing i'm very well how are you patty i'm good uh
00:39:25uh you're uh well i was very proud of the suitcase that i won on house of games but apparently it's tat
00:39:31so there we go of course yes so this is uh you've been on richards uh it came out last week i was on
00:39:39richard osmond's house of games that's the only non-tat prize to be fair that on the fondue set of the
00:39:44only ones that prizes yeah that's better there we go there you go right of place yes i was on and i
00:39:50got and i i think i'm quite competitive and it's a quiz show and i like a quiz and i like a pub quiz
00:39:58and there's monday to friday five episodes and i've learned since from the fans on twitter
00:40:04you're not supposed to win all five days okay yes i think i took it a bit seriously yes and and and
00:40:11tried a bit hard at the trivia but but that's how you win the the big prize that's how you win all
00:40:16the tat padding yes seriously uh i mean you're a busy man you're gigging lots of venues uh belfast boy
00:40:23not a belfast name uh can you tell us the where the the angeloni's came from yes grew up in belfast half
00:40:31italian so i come from an immigrant background and that sometimes gets through an applause but don't worry
00:40:37but um you can feel how the voting trends are shifting in ireland um and listen you get the
00:40:45government you deserve and i know i grew up grew up belfast half italian my family had to move away
00:40:51from italy during world war ii to get away from all the bombs and violence
00:40:55so the move to belfast um good work team uh out of the frying pan into the raw
00:41:09you're saying you're competitive uh you were you watching the football then uh this week i know
00:41:14you're a footy fan i had a bit of a nightmare so i was in new york last week and i got back the day
00:41:20before the match and i was new york luggage truly did you take that to new york i've taken this to
00:41:26australia i've taken it to new york and every so often and i was like it's a pre-record so we recorded
00:41:32it months ago and it only came out last week and i was sort of wheeling this around going i am slightly
00:41:37wheeling around a spoiler yeah for richard osmond's house of games and occasionally i'd be putting it on
00:41:42the security tray and they go how'd you get that and i go oh well i couldn't possibly say how i got that
00:41:47actually um it was very belfast protocol of sort of saying nothing about the suitcase
00:41:56would you remember not to leave it there yes then don't leave it unattended yes i've learned that
00:42:00that's how i imagine that if i'd have been blown up i don't think any of them been blown up don't
00:42:06don't dare me richard i will i will blow up your suitcase um honestly collaborate with me on instagram
00:42:13we'll do we'll we'll do that that's now that'll go back and we'll both wink after it that's like my
00:42:20only thing
00:42:23so you so so i was so i was all said i've got okay man i'm gonna watch the match when i get back from
00:42:28new york it's gonna be great and i sat down had it on the tv and uh jet lag is a cruel mistress and i
00:42:34fell asleep just before kickoff and woke up and saw the final score during the reaction from the pundits
00:42:40so i've uh but i but i think it's good i don't think irish people are very like we're not used to
00:42:47this no winning very true well i mean england fans are but irish fans not so much well this because
00:42:52england fans they go to these tournaments and they get filled with expectation and i'm worried that we're
00:42:57getting filled with expectation because england fans like i live in london and it's very funny
00:43:02in the build-up to a tournament they're all like oh it's coming home and it never is
00:43:17fine richard applauding and that's the clip we'll use
00:43:23but i'm much more of a fan of like you know ireland like i i somehow like it when they don't make the
00:43:29tournament and we just have to support you know whoever england are against you know
00:43:35i've always been a huge fan of the former yukoslav republic of macedonia that's my boyhood team
00:43:42and they're a good bunch but you know i i do get in trouble for being a bit antagonistic to the english
00:43:46sometimes no i can see the competitive nature coming out here we actually have a little uh clip
00:43:50because you've played a bit yourself played a little bit of football and i'm hoping for a call-up
00:43:56for the game i mean to be to be honest i mean we got a clip here richard have a little look at this
00:44:00this is uh this is you with a charity game you're playing against dimitar berbatov yes one of the
00:44:05greatest bulgarians to ever kick a football that is correct and i i i just i'm not very good at
00:44:12football but i am what people would refer to as a cheeky bastard so i just took a notion to do
00:44:19something a bit mad okay here we go we've got a clip talk us through what's happening here so
00:44:23this is i picked up the ball a brilliant interception and i just nutmegged him oh wow
00:44:29because bulgaria look at that
00:44:36look at the celebration i played very cool i played very good i did patty i just kicked the ball away
00:44:45i kicked the ball away to somebody they might have been in the other team i did a lap of the pitch
00:44:50and got a high five from jason mcateer and i will take that to my grave you're uh you're saying there
00:45:02so you're living in england now you've got uh the girlfriend's english as well yeah
00:45:06no she's she's a good friend and we hang out me and my girlfriend she's she's lovely i think look
00:45:17all couples no matter nationality they all have little arguments and a classic little argument is
00:45:21like you know you took up more than half the bed that's a classic couple argument i don't know if you
00:45:25and simon i've had that you took up more than half the bed i certainly do
00:45:29we have bunk beds not married ireland not married
00:45:36but i just i feel like an english-irish relationship is the only one where she
00:45:39takes up more than half the bed and i call her a colonial bastard
00:45:44she'll move back but she will take six pillows
00:45:46maybe just a joke for the noughties and now you're going to sing four green duvets is that right
00:45:57all right good you you said somewhere that uh that you thought you i have a toxic trait with simon
00:46:03because yeah we have a very calm and loving relationship but when i have a few drinks
00:46:07i don't know if it's just me but i look at him and i genuinely think i'm like i could definitely take him
00:46:11like i really as a woman i'm like i could like you're bigger and stronger but i'm scrappier like
00:46:16i could definitely take you down and tomorrow we're going to find out simon so let's
00:46:23i'm so sorry richard this is
00:46:26this is taken taken a very antagonistic turn i'm i'm so sorry where this has gone for our visitors
00:46:32from overseas oh i love it i'm very i'm very comfortable you're fine with this yeah uh you saw
00:46:37this man in edinburgh uh back in the day you realized four or five years ago yeah i went to
00:46:42see him and uh he was so funny he was just terrific you could you could tell right away and i've you
00:46:47know i've worked in comedy for years and years and years and you can be like watching kyla now you can
00:46:51see where someone's got it uh and you've definitely got it and when i saw vittorio i i thought i can't
00:46:56wait to see where he's going in the next few years so lovely to have him now have a piece of luggage with
00:47:00my face on it which is that's essentially how i like to uh how i like to roll you'll have one you'll
00:47:06have one i don't want one okay i'll take a fondue set i'll take a fondue set yeah yeah for sure um
00:47:15you know one of the brilliant things like i i love watching your stand-up because it's like it's funny
00:47:19but it's open you'll just you're an open book you'll you know on stage you've talked about uh this kind
00:47:25of you know possibly being autistic where are you with all of that at the moment it's it's an interesting
00:47:30process trying trying to be autistic or trying to get autism i just got all the vaccines i'm hoping
00:47:40for the best um but it's funny because normally when you're not well you know you've you phone the
00:47:47doctor but when you think you have autism you still have to phone the doctor but normally you have
00:47:51symptoms you got a blocked nose you got a sore head you got all this stuff going on when you think you
00:47:54have autism you kind of have to phone the doctor and go hello i'm weird and he goes
00:48:00how weird clinically weird i believe and there's sort of a whole back and forward they send you
00:48:05out like a they chat to you and ask if you're the only person that thinks you have autism and i said
00:48:11no it's it's everyone on the internet my instagram messages are just people with autism telling me
00:48:16that i have autism and the messages don't start oh vittorio have you considered that you might
00:48:22the messages start thank you for representing our community um and uh but so you go through this and
00:48:29i'm currently the second round they send you to sort of application form for autism i don't think
00:48:33that's the the word that they use yes it felt like an application form i wrote a cover letter just in
00:48:38case and now i'm through to the third round this is where i currently am i'm through to the third i'm
00:48:42through the judges houses of autism um so fingers crossed i feel like it'll be sort of a simon cowell
00:48:48moment at the end where they go i'm really sorry to say you're riddled with it
00:48:55so so this is a real a real diagnosis a real process and it's been like there's really difficult
00:48:59parts to it and sort of looking back i mean we're building up to the toy show like you sort of look
00:49:04back at moments in your life where you go oh yeah that was probably a dead giveaway really and there's
00:49:08a story that my mom tells of when i was three years old uh sort of around this time of year
00:49:14the um mom came in and said like oh vittoria are you excited for santa and i turned around as a
00:49:20three-year-old and said i don't know why adults insist on lying to children okay so there's your
00:49:27diagnosis there i reckon yes and but these sort of you look back in these moments and you can have
00:49:32difficult social interactions and there's a worry that i don't want to be defined by it i think some
00:49:38people grab a hold of these diagnoses and go well this is my whole personality my whole identity and
00:49:43i'm very averse to that you know i'm very proud to be irish but it's not the only thing about me
00:49:47i'm very proud to be italian and part of that heritage but that's not the only thing about me
00:49:51either and i don't want this diagnosis to be sort of a coverall for the reasons i do
00:49:56everything i think i want to be my own person aside from that but that's just an element
00:50:00of who i am i think is the hope uh the new show is called you can't say anything anymore you can't
00:50:07say nothing can't say nothing very west belfast title yes yeah yeah it sort of plays on this idea
00:50:13of i get very frustrated and bored with comedians who say everybody's too woke nowadays and you can't
00:50:18say anything anymore because i just think it's complete nonsense i've performed all around the
00:50:22country all around the world and i find audiences are very receptive to material that can be controversial
00:50:28or difficult as long as you're quite skilled and caring with how you approach those topics and then
00:50:32there's the element of talking about the say nothing side of things because belfast is really
00:50:38on the global map at the minute and the global consciousness and just talking about this
00:50:43feeling of a younger generation in northern ireland having to redefine our identity because the defining
00:50:48characteristic for lots of people about northern ireland is the troubles but i didn't live through
00:50:52that i was born in 1996 so i think we've given a blank canvas to sort of decide what that means to us
00:50:59and whether that's me doing stand-up about it or kneecap rapping about it or all these different

00:55:58unable to sing and unable to walk we are delighted however to say that with strength and determination
00:56:03she's come out the other side she joins us tonight to share her story would you please welcome lisa mccue
00:56:09there we go you got a few fans in tonight lisa how you doing i'm doing good thank you how are you yeah
00:56:31all good all good uh ireland's now home uh been home for 15 years yeah can you believe it i can't
00:56:39believe it it's a can you believe i sound like i'm from here that long well you think whenever there's
00:56:44a tiny bit of glass coming in there isn't there yeah a wee bit yeah i've been here now as you say 15
00:56:49years and i was welcomed with open arms back then and i really do i call this my home now i really love it
00:56:58uh so ireland's your home and when it comes to your life it is just music and family and
00:57:02those are the two things which you just love more than anything else but at the start of this year
00:57:09something happened uh which life took an unexpected turn can you tell us what happened in january
00:57:15yeah um well for those of you that don't know i have two children milo will be four now in january
00:57:22and i have hallie who is just over one and a half and when hallie was born um she went through quite a
00:57:29rough time we were in nicu for 10 days and then she got rsv last november and she got it four times
00:57:38after that so we were in and out of hospital all the time and it was very stressful and in january of this
00:57:46year i was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia which is a severe facial pain i didn't know what it was
00:57:53at the time i just knew that it was so sore so i went to the doctor and she said yeah your symptoms
00:57:59sound like you've got trigeminal neuralgia and she gave me medication and it managed to keep it at bay
00:58:07but from then on we were still very stressed with hallie because she was she had acid reflux
00:58:13she had lots of allergies she was still getting lots of illnesses in and out of hospital trying
00:58:18to go back to work do my singing be a mom be a wife be a daughter and i essentially burnt myself
00:58:26out completely and in june of this year i felt very unwell got another flare-up of trigeminal neuralgia
00:58:34and one saturday evening after a week of feeling really not well i was sitting on the sofa
00:58:41mom and dad were minding the kids they were making dinner for them and i just felt my left leg was
00:58:48just so heavy all of a sudden and i tried to lift my left leg and it wouldn't go anywhere but i could
00:58:55see my muscles tensing but it still wouldn't move and then i tried to lift the right one and it went up
00:59:02and i tried again and it wouldn't go anywhere and i says mom i i can't i can't move my leg and she says
00:59:08what do you mean you can't move your leg and she asked me to show her and she was like right straight
00:59:12in the car and up to the doctors straight into A&E and they done tests for stroke and they were
00:59:21they done all the cts the bloods the mris everything but everything came back normal we actually have
00:59:27you you had you took a few pictures and posted some of this uh on on your phone here so this is
00:59:35this is you in the summer so this is uh that's that night yeah so that's that one so you can
00:59:41lift one but then it got worse yeah so within a space of a few hours after and being in A&E the
00:59:48doctor was examining me and she asked me to lift my left leg it wouldn't go anywhere and then she
00:59:53asked me to lift my right leg and it wouldn't go anywhere either so both of them were gone within
00:59:58the space of two or three hours and the face the facial pain and the pain in my head was excruciating
01:00:04so they were giving me morphine um diazepam oxygen tramadol everything to try and get on top of the
01:00:11pain and to try and find out what was the reason that my symptoms were escalating so quickly but they
01:00:18just they couldn't get to the bottom of it because the results were coming back normal i mean that must
01:00:23have just been the most frightening thing it was scary it was scary but i think i was in so much
01:00:30pain at that time that i didn't really properly think about what was going on i would just wanted
01:00:35them to get on top of the pain but the longer it went on the longer i was in hospital i was in for 10
01:00:40days and you know the realization of i can't get out of bed i need nurses to physically lift my legs
01:00:49off the bed into a wheelchair to go to the bathroom to shower i couldn't physically do anything for
01:00:55myself anymore and the longer that went on that was then when it started to set and i was thinking to
01:01:02myself okay how what are we going to do here to get back on our feet and so the diagnosis was
01:01:09functional neurological disorder okay basically means that there's a nervous system problem and
01:01:17your brain is not sending the signals properly to your limbs or to your body it's essentially they call
01:01:23it a software problem in your brain and not a hardware problem um but it's when you know they do all
01:01:30the examinations they do the bloods they do the cts and your the results come back normal but your
01:01:37symptoms are very real you know people have seizures they have speech problems they have tremors they
01:01:43have weakness which is what i have and i had never heard of it before when i was diagnosed i'd never
01:01:50heard of it at all but since i have shared my story the thousands of messages that i have had from
01:01:57people to say that they're going through something similar and they've been sent home and they've no
01:02:02help they don't know where to turn or what to do and they're really really struggling it's it's mind
01:02:09blowing that the amount of people that are so ill and have you any idea what what brought it on
01:02:14purely stress yeah stress and burnout you know and you know i'm doing what i am doing and i love
01:02:21to do is touring as you well know touring around the country and you you know you you're eating at the
01:02:26wrong times you're eating the wrong food you're not getting enough sleep and you're going home then
01:02:31late at night and you're getting up first thing in the morning with the kids being mum again and then
01:02:37you're going to do the shop and in the local the shop you're you're trying to squeeze in everything
01:02:42and wear every hat you can and in that time i just completely forgot about looking after myself
01:02:49so it was a huge wake-up call i mean seeing you walk out here tonight i mean after seeing that that
01:02:57you just you know couldn't move at all i mean that that's amazing like what was the what was the moment
01:03:03when was the moment that that you felt you turned the corner uh one singular moment for me was when i was
01:03:11introduced to a man called um michael d'oherty and i was at home i was off my feet for a month at this
01:03:21stage and you know when you're at night and you're thinking how am i going to get better because
01:03:27you're sent home and it's there's no recovery plan there's no strategy there's no one saying
01:03:32you're going to go here and this is going what's going to happen it's a case of this is what you've got
01:03:37go home and try and recover you probably have relapses but it's just a case of you know kind
01:03:42of just getting on with it and i really wasn't willing to accept that as an answer and i was
01:03:48introduced to michael d'oherty who basically put the team the medical team around me from the beginning
01:03:57he asked what my symptoms were he asked the medication i was on he asked what tests were done
01:04:02and you know simple things like could there be something in your mouth to do with your teeth
01:04:08that are that's contributing so he basically started again and asked all the questions and
01:04:14and built you up a treatment program yeah he tried to get to the root of the problem and this was you
01:04:18know you're also getting occupational therapy and yes yeah he put the the team around me with
01:04:23occupational therapy with physio and it's purely an integrated you know strategy including all the
01:04:29the medics and the professionals and michael and i 100 percent know that without his help
01:04:38i i wouldn't be where i am today i definitely know that so i i have so much to thank him for
01:04:44and this team and kira our occupational therapist as well and everyone who's been amazing
01:04:49uh you shared your story online um i know you're saying that that got quite the reaction
01:04:56it's been unbelievable you know from the very first video i shared the amount of flowers and messages
01:05:04and cards and mass cards and prayers and phone calls and it's honestly and it's still still happening
01:05:11to this day you know i have always said i have the best fans in the world and you know you can say oh
01:05:17that's really cliche to say that but i genuinely i couldn't have got through the last few months without
01:05:23you know all the support all the prayers all the you know messages and they really have kept me going
01:05:31i mean it's good to see you you know back it's good to see uh uh you know you've you've got that's
01:05:37you know bit of a twinkle uh back in your eye you're ready to to get back out there and perform again
01:05:42i'm getting there i'm getting there i don't want to give anyone the impression that i've waved a magic
01:05:47wand and you know everything is 100 again because i'm definitely still on the recovery journey um
01:05:53still get tired i'm still you know doing small bits and then rest and i have to manage my energy
01:05:59and i have to completely change the way my life is and it has and the way it will be going forward
01:06:06and yeah i enjoy you know singing as i always have done and i want to do more of that
01:06:11um but i really have to ease myself in gently and look after myself okay uh would you mind if we ask
01:06:17you to ease yourself into tonight and give us a wee tune yeah there's nothing like pressure from the
01:06:23late late show no there's not like pressure uh yeah yeah okay here we go uh we're going to get uh as
01:06:34tag uh ties coming in here uh you're guitarist and you're going to give us a wee tune here what is
01:06:40this given the given the fact that we're all on the christmas spirit tonight i thought um i'll
01:06:50sing a song i actually wrote myself with a good friend of mine katrina burgoyne it's a christmas song
01:06:55and we released a few years ago it's called home with a heartbeat
01:07:08i used to be those little feet the hands tugging at the bed sheets the voice the bangs come on see
01:07:21the gifts that he left by the tree but now the season means so much more i can see what christmas is for
01:07:35not tinsel the bells or a wreath on the door or mistletoe i'm in the hall
01:07:45it's that time of year when you bring family near and when hope is a gift guaranteed
01:07:54it's more than the fire that warms you inside it's the love and the comfort it brings
01:08:03when a house isn't just a place on the street it feels like a home with a heartbeat
01:08:14i can't wait to hear those little feet to feel their hands tugging at my bed sheets
01:08:29to hear a voice beg me to come on and see and wake up in a home with a heartbeat
01:08:41to hear a voice beg me to come on and see and wake up in a home with a heartbeat
