00:30Hey, Joe, when I spoke to Max Brosman before the game, boy, was he excited.
00:34The smile just never left his face.
00:36He told me he is so grateful for this opportunity to open here in Seattle.
00:41I said, in Seattle, you know what that implies, what with the noise and the defense.
00:46Kevin O'Connell raves about Brosman.
00:49He loves the way the undrafted rookie plays the position.
00:52He is hopeful that the Vikings offense will be able to play on time and in rhythm.
00:56Justin Jefferson, he's a fan, too.
00:58Jefferson told me that we can't overwhelm Brosman.
01:03Let him play free.
01:04I'm excited to watch this journey begin.
01:06See how far he can take us today.
01:09Joe?
01:09All right, Pam.
01:11And Seahawks fans excited with the results earlier.
01:14Here the Rams lose against Carolina, and so the Seahawks have a chance with a win to try even at the top of the division and tie the Rams, tie the Bears for the best record in the NFC.
01:24And don't look now, but those 49ers, 9-4, even with all the injuries they've dealt with.
01:29Seahawks won the toss, deferred to the second half.
01:32Off we go in Seattle.
01:33And Miles Price, who has had his issues in recent weeks with a couple key fumbles, has a nice return to open this game and gives the Vikings good field position.
01:44Their first drive will start at the 33-yard line, and it is Max Brosman from the Gophers to the Vikings.
01:51An undrafted free agent out of Minnesota, made the team with an impressive preseason.
01:56He's played just mop-up duty so far.
01:58He gets his first career start against this defense and with this stadium and this crowd.
02:03Yeah, and I mean, it's one thing to make your rookie starting debut as a young quarterback in this league.
02:09That's hard no matter what the circumstance, but to go against this Seattle defense in what's arguably the most difficult stadium to play in certainly makes it even a bigger challenge.
02:19They begin with an Aaron Jones run straight ahead for three or four yards in this Minnesota offense.
02:26Just when the offensive line gets healthy for the first time all year, they lose two guys.
02:31Left side of the line, Christian Darisaw, Donovan Jackson both out, and so school and Brandle start.
02:36But what the advantage, Max Brosman, what he does have is he has a quarterback, a coach who understands quarterbacks in Kevin O'Connell.
02:44When he looks to his left and to his right, he has two of the best wide receivers in the entire league, Jordan Addison, Justin Jefferson.
02:51This group's going to have to play well around Brosmer, especially here early in to settle him into the game.
02:58It's been one of the top passing attacks in the NFL.
03:01First few seasons under Kevin O'Connell.
03:03First throw from Brosmer goes to Jones, who's hit at the line, knocked out of bounds by Devin Witherspoon.
03:08Seattle, for years, the identity was defense, and it has returned in a big way with Mike McDonald as the head coach.
03:15And I think when the season's all said and done, Joe, we're going to look back and say this is the best defense.
03:21From a scheme standpoint, Mike McDonald, one of the best defensive minds in all of football.
03:25And then the personnel, the play style, the way it all matches together, especially here at home, this is one of the bigger challenges in the entire NFL.
03:38Third and six, Brosmer pressured and sacked, Uchenna Nwosu, healthy and thriving for the Seattle defense.
03:53There is a flag down in the secondary, and it looks like this may go on the Seahawks.
04:03Nwosu's saying, man, what have I gotten a sack instead?
04:08It's going to be a penalty in the secondary.
04:10Defense number 29.
04:12It's a five-yard finish in the previous snap.
04:15First down, Minnesota.
04:17And so the drive continues for this third down penalty.
04:21Yeah, you talk about this Seattle defense, and even though the play won't stand,
04:26let's take a look here.
04:29It's called 29.
04:30Hard to tell who's on, but the point being, you saw it there, and that play doesn't stand.
04:34And the advantage that this Seattle defense has is their ability to get after the quarterback with only four guys is the key to the entire side.
04:43Aaron Jones gets stopped by Leonard Williams, and you were saying that you feel like you're watching 12 or 13 guys,
04:49and then we talked to Mike McDonald, and he said, that's the goal.
04:51We want them to feel like they're playing against 12.
04:54Yeah, so think about it, right?
04:55There's two ways to attack quarterbacks.
04:56You can rush your front four, and that allows you to keep seven on the back end intact,
05:00but because Seattle is able to get pressure on the quarterback with such a low blitz percentage,
05:06it's like they're blitzing five.
05:08It feels like that to the quarterback, but they also get to keep seven in coverage, right?
05:12So that's where that, like, 12th man, which obviously people here in Seattle take a lot of pride in.
05:22Second and nine.
05:23Brosmer scans, checks it down.
05:26Jones again.
05:27Aaron Jones tiptoe in the sideline, pushed out of bounds by Witherspoon, and it'll be third and short.
05:33But Brosmer, it's crazy talking to people around the Vikings who feel like,
05:37okay, this is the guy that we need.
05:40This is the spark, undrafted, but they say that he sees things like a veteran.
05:44They say that he's comfortable in this offense, similar to what he did with the Gophers last season.
05:50And we talked to Kevin O'Connell after their Friday practice.
05:53He said, I don't think the ball hit the ground today.
05:56He's shown it in practice all week.
05:59On third down, he gets belted by Leonard Williams.
06:05In his 11th season, as dominant as ever.
06:10Well, two third downs, two four-man rushes, and two sacks.
06:15And you see Leonard Williams, they kind of go quick.
06:19Seattle wasn't even really set.
06:21Minnesota went with the quick snap, and the right guard, Will Fries, number 76.
06:26He just didn't stand a chance.
06:28And we're going to talk about it throughout this entire game, Joe.
06:31Their ability to get after the passer with only four guys.
06:35They're deep, they're talented.
06:37It's one of the best fronts in all football.
06:39So, a punt on the first drive for the Vikings.
06:43Ryan Wright sends it away to Shahid with a fair catch back inside the five-yard line.
06:49And still the Vikings have to punt it away on their first drive to their old quarterback, Sam Darnold,
06:55taking the field with a Seahawks offense on the other side of this break.
06:59Two, please.
07:05Make that three.
07:07With the Capital One Saber card, you earn unlimited 3% cash back on dining and entertainment.
07:133% cash back on salty, 3% cash back on sweet.
07:17You know this movie's three hours, right?
07:20Good call.
07:21Are you in this one?
07:22Yeah, I'm in this one.
07:23Get your tentacles off my 3% cash back.
07:28Oh, perfect delivery.
07:31Oh, what's in your wallet?
07:35Dead.
07:36From his own in-zone, Sam Darnold gets ready to go.
07:39At the four interceptions and the loss in L.A., bounce back nicely.
07:43244 yards and two touchdowns against the Titans last week.
07:46This offense, third in the NFL, 30 points per game.
07:53And it's Kenneth Walker on the first play, straight up the gut.
07:57When we talk about Minnesota's offensive line, all the turnover, all the injuries,
08:00the opposite for Seattle.
08:02It just had as good a continuity up front as any team in the NFL,
08:06really just one injury.
08:08Yeah, that's Oluwutimmy starting at center for Jalen Sundell, who misses his third game.
08:12Darnold fakes short and then throws.
08:14And it's Walker again with a first down, running through Harrison Smith across the 20.
08:20Kenneth Walker, back-to-back games of more than 100 yards of offense,
08:24has the touch on the first two plays.
08:27It's a little thing, but that was a really nice job there by Sam Darnold.
08:31It's almost like Van Ginkle knew that little smoke screen was coming.
08:35And you see Darnold, he gave a little pump fake.
08:38And then he threw it in behind Van Ginkle when he ran up the field.
08:41But last week, Walker, he got a lot more snaps on the field.
08:45Didn't necessarily lead to more touches.
08:47But they want to continue to get Kenneth Walker more and more involved
08:52and getting the ball in his hand, not just handing it off.
08:55One of the best big play running backs in the league.
08:57Three for three.
09:00Navigates through to the 25.
09:02There's a flag at the line of scrimmage.
09:03As Walker pushes forward for five yards, let's see what this call is.
09:10Early indications are that this is on Minnesota.
09:20Offside, defense number 43.
09:23And it is on Andrew Van Ginkle.
09:28Still, this defense for the Vikings, aggressive as always,
09:31doing a lot of the things that it always does,
09:33just not producing the same kind of game-changing turnovers that they usually do.
09:37Yeah, over the years, you start looking at a Brian Flores defense,
09:39and you say they're going to be among the best in the league at the splash negatives.
09:44What that means is tackles for loss, takeaways, affecting the quarterback.
09:49All those areas are not as strong as they have been in years past.
09:52And a big reason for that is they're just playing very different styles of game
09:56with the struggles of the offense.
09:58It's Walker on a draw, trying to get around Wilson, who looked like he got held.
10:03Walker's able to turn the corner and tackled by Josh Metellus.
10:07There's good news on the injury front for the Vikings today.
10:09They do get back Jonathan Grenard.
10:11And then Metellus, who's questionable with a couple of injuries, said,
10:14look, if I can run, I'm going to play.
10:16And he's in there making the tackle there.
10:18The biggest challenge that Brian Flores has today,
10:22the code that Clint Kubiak has kind of cracked around the NFL,
10:25and it's really become a big trend and a big fad is, you know,
10:29they operate under this illusion that they're this heavy-run team.
10:33But all of their effectiveness, all of their explosiveness
10:35is really tied up in the passing game.
10:37So how does Brian Flores match Seattle defensive personnel-wise?
10:42Here is the play-action pass.
10:44Darnold scrambles.
10:45This is where he's had issues.
10:47Moving to his left.
10:48It's thrown out of bounds as he was chased by Dallas Turner.
10:51And it's third and short.
10:52Because it seems like most teams have played into the Seahawks' hands
10:55and played them exactly how they want to be played.
10:58That is teams getting big, loading up to stop the run.
11:01Yeah, exactly right.
11:01And over the course of the season,
11:03that's been the style of this Minnesota defense.
11:06They have matched.
11:07So 12 personnel, so meaning, you know, two tight ends, two receivers, one back.
11:12They have matched that with base personnel
11:14at one of the highest rates in the league.
11:17They got A.J. Barner in there to sneak it.
11:20Seven out of eight doing this this year.
11:22Have not yet seen a wrinkle off of it and won't see it here.
11:26If it ain't broke, why fix it?
11:27Sneaks it straight ahead.
11:29The former high school quarterback has a first down.
11:32This is kind of the new way to defend.
11:38They call it here the barnyard.
11:40Levi Drake Rodriguez, number 50.
11:42He's laying sideways.
11:44We saw them do that a couple weeks ago.
11:46We had the Vikings game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
11:49Of course, the tush push and all the conversation about how to defend it.
11:53But Flores told us that week he's got a little something planned,
11:56and he's carried that over for the barnyard.
11:59I guess that's the word here in Seattle that they use.
12:03At some point, they're going to snap that ball to Darnold.
12:06Out of an empty set, they do.
12:08Darnold to Cupp, who makes a man miss.
12:10And Cooper Cupp in his first season in Seattle.
12:13Across the 45, he got 14 yards and a first down.
12:19We haven't even mentioned Jackson Smith and Jigba.
12:22He's on a historic run for the wide receiver position.
12:26There's going to be a lot more opportunity,
12:27a lot more space for Cooper Cupp with the attention
12:30that Jackson Smith and Jigba is going to get
12:33throughout the rest of this season.
12:36Seahawks quickly back on the ball.
12:38Vikings bring an extra man.
12:39Barner can't hang on, and then it was nearly intercepted there
12:42by Byron Murphy.
12:44And it's second and ten.
12:45We talk about the drop-off and takeaways for this Vikings defense,
12:48especially notable when it comes to interceptions.
12:51From 24 last year to only three this year.
12:54That's the second fewest in the league.
12:57And Murphy's the guy that probably best embodies that.
12:59Going from six picks last year, a Pro Bowl, a new contract,
13:03to none of them this year.
13:04And of those nine takeaways,
13:06five of them came against the Cincinnati Bengals
13:09way back in week three.
13:11So they've gone three straight games without taking the ball away.
13:14It feels like today their best chance is to get back on that track.
13:17Back to Walker, who could not get away from Eric Wilson.
13:21One of the bright spots of this defense coming back to Minnesota,
13:24where he started his career.
13:25He's got a tackle for loss, and it's third and long.
13:28You know, talking to Brian Flores, one of the biggest things,
13:32when he puts his list on the board, he says,
13:34okay, if we're going to win this game, we've got to be really good at what?
13:38They need to force Seattle into these situations.
13:41Seattle faces the least third down attempts
13:44because they're so good on first and second down.
13:47They don't operate in third down, let alone third and pass.
13:50So Minnesota, force third downs, force third and pass,
13:54and get after Darnold.
13:56Yeah, the Seahawks, the worst team in the NFL on third and long,
13:59and they're facing everybody coming here, including Grenard.
14:02Wilson will get home and sack Darnold
14:04and takes him to the ground there, finishing the play.
14:08The crowd wants a penalty.
14:09Doesn't look like they'll get it.
14:10A loss of 14 and a punt coming up.
14:14I think they missed Jonathan Grenard.
14:16Watch the getoff here.
14:18Abraham Lucas, that right tackle.
14:19I mean, he doesn't even have a chance.
14:21He's not even out of his stance yet.
14:24The ability to generate quick pressure,
14:26that's really been Jonathan Grenard's big impact
14:30on this Vikings defense, has missed the last couple weeks,
14:32and certainly a great week to get him back.
14:36Vikings defense forces the punt.
14:38The team's trade punts on their first two drives,
14:41and it's Michael Dixon, eighth-year pro out of Texas,
14:46best average hang time of his career this year.
14:48Bit of a wobbler this time, and yeah, Miles Price says get away from it
14:55and does so himself after the debacle last week in Green Bay.
14:59The roll makes it a 57-yard punt,
15:01and Max Brosmer and the Vikings will go back on offense,
15:04but the defense is standing tall early on in Seattle.
15:07Mr. Grinch, I need your help.
15:17My strengths, and I was never the most athletic guy,
15:20never the strongest guy,
15:21but I felt like I could do it better with my mind in the field,
15:24and that's playing NFL quarterback in my opinion.
15:27Well, Vikings fans are hoping they have their own Brock Purdy right here,
15:31and Max Brosmer, who flew under the radar through college,
15:33even though he had a great college career.
15:36Of course, Purdy, the last pick of the draft,
15:38has become a franchise quarterback.
15:39Brosmer undrafted.
15:41They're getting his first start today.
15:43He'll start this drive with play action,
15:45and another dump off.
15:46Aaron Jones, who's got a couple blockers in front,
15:48and has a dozen on the first play of this drive.
15:51Ernest Jones, the tackle.
15:53And you hear the Purdy comparisons,
15:56and it's like, yeah, you can see the path to the same,
15:58and then we asked Kevin O'Connell,
15:59how similar do you see it?
16:00He said, well, look, first thing is the experience.
16:03This guy's a four-plus-year starter in college,
16:06regardless of the level that they played at.
16:08He's started a lot of games.
16:09He's played a lot of football,
16:10and then the way that everybody talks about the guys,
16:13that it's exactly how they remember hearing people talk about Brock Purdy
16:16at Iowa State.
16:17That's how people at Minnesota talk about Max Brosmer.
16:25Jones stopped in the backfield
16:27and struggled to get back to the line of scrimmage.
16:29You talk about the respect that he has at the University of Minnesota.
16:33He was only there one year, spent five at UNH,
16:36then he was a grad transfer to lead that Gophers offense.
16:40I had a chance this week to catch up with P.J. Fleck.
16:42He's the head football coach at the University of Minnesota,
16:44only a couple miles down the road from where the Vikings practice.
16:48And there's a lot of college coaches that speak highly of former quarterbacks
16:52and former players.
16:53He speaks about him like he completely transformed in one season.
16:59The impact that he made on that Gophers program out of the mouth of P.J. Fleck
17:03is just pretty remarkable.
17:06Look to throw it on second and nine.
17:08Rips one for Addison who couldn't hang on.
17:11Would have been a good catch, but Vikings fans are pulling their hair out
17:14watching Addison and all these receivers continue to drop balls.
17:18We talked about the help that Brosmer needs.
17:21A great job off the line on Jobe, and he's wide open.
17:25And that ball is thrown on time and accurately.
17:29Got to help him out.
17:30He's got to catch the ball.
17:31I don't care if it's a rookie.
17:32I don't care if it's a 10-year vet.
17:34You're coming here against this Seattle defense.
17:37You've got to make the most of opportunities when you're wide open downfield.
17:41I mean, you've got the offensive line letting guys run right by him on the first drive.
17:44You've got a star receiver right there dropping a pretty well-thrown ball.
17:48Puts him in a tough third down.
17:50Brosmer wants the snap.
17:51Gets it just in time.
17:52Addison gets another try.
17:54Stumbles in his stop well short.
17:57Witherspoon the coverage, and after the drop on second down,
18:00they get you a six on third and nine.
18:02Just to kind of put a bow on that conversation with P.J. Fleck,
18:06he said, you know, over the last couple years, we were an RPO,
18:08a very college-style system,
18:10and we made the decision that we wanted to be more of a prototypical NFL style.
18:16They're very close with Kevin O'Connell, very close with the Vikings.
18:19He ran a very similar style to what Kevin O'Connell wants him to operate here for the Vikings
18:24that lone season with the Minnesota Gophers.
18:28Two drives, two punts for Ryan Wright.
18:31He backs up inside the 10 to field it.
18:42And Rashid Shahid stops at the 15-yard line.
18:46No score late in the first quarter.
18:48Smith and Jigbon, the Seahawks, back to work on the other side of this break.
18:54I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
18:59There's nothing to pass an offense in the NFL.
19:04You kind of live with it.
19:05Yeah, there's a school of thought around the NFL
19:07that as long as the turnovers, of course, don't become completely out of control
19:11and just take over the game,
19:13even a couple weeks ago in that close loss on the road against the Rams,
19:18despite four turnovers,
19:21they're kicking a game-winning field goal as time expires.
19:24Heavy dose of Kenneth Walker early in this game,
19:27and it seems like Eric Wilson is there on every play.
19:30He jammed his nose in, and then Jalen Redman got the tackle.
19:36Well, Sam Darnold, 22-6 the last two seasons.
19:40Most wins in consecutive years by quarterbacks going from one team to another.
19:44Of course, Tom Brady from the Patriots to the Bucs.
19:47Peyton Manning going from the Colts to the Broncos.
19:50Darnold just one win shy of the totals from those guys over those two seasons.
19:54And you've touched on this a couple times when he signed the contract this offseason
19:58that now looks like a bargain.
20:00There were more questions than there were people saying,
20:02wow, what a great deal for Seattle.
20:06After the way that it finished in Minnesota.
20:10Incomplete right here.
20:11Wanted cup was defended by Cashman, and it's third and nine.
20:15I think John Schneider, the general manager here in Seattle,
20:18I think he deserves a lot of credit,
20:21not only for signing Sam Darnold and the contract,
20:23but they got a third-round pick for Geno Smith from the Raiders,
20:27who then went aside and gave him an $85 million-plus two-year contract,
20:31so significantly higher pay per year than what they're getting out of Darnold.
20:35And the way he managed the transition from Pete Carroll,
20:39a legendary coach, to Mike McDonald,
20:40and I'll tell you what, to go from one regime to the next
20:44as seamlessly as they have here in Seattle,
20:47the organization deserves a lot of credit.
20:48House is coming again on third and long,
20:50flushing down it, who has to throw it away.
20:52And this has looked like Brian Flores' defense when it is right.
20:56Javon Hargrave got through, so did Eric Wilson again,
21:00and the punt team will come out.
21:02Yeah, so take a look here.
21:04This is Wilson in the middle, but they got three guys.
21:06They're going to fan, and they're just going to leave Wilson completely unblocked.
21:10Clearly a pass protection issue, but like we said on that opening drive,
21:16if you're Minnesota, you want to force as many third downs as possible,
21:21something Seattle's offense has not been forced into a lot of during the season.
21:26It's amazing they are.
21:27You could argue the best team in the NFL,
21:29but a couple categories where they're near the worst.
21:31They turn it over too much, and if you can, get them into third and long.
21:35Which Minnesota has done twice, enforced the punt.
21:39No score, two and a half to go here in the first.
21:41There's a flag back down around, but the ball was snapped.
21:48That's Rosemar getting ready to go back out there.
21:52McCarthy missing this week with a concussion.
21:54Carson Wentz, who started the games that McCarthy missed earlier this year,
21:58done with season-ending shoulder surgery.
22:00Proceeding team number 98, 10-yard penalty from the end of the kick.
22:03First down, Minnesota.
22:05Set up, moving back 10 yards, and we're back to Seattle after this.
22:13Is it me you're looking for?
22:17But they only bring, I'm sorry, they only bring four.
22:23They're going to drop Cashman, drop Murphy, and they just have an unblocked guy.
22:27So seven guys at or near the line of scrimmage, three drop, four come,
22:33unblocked pressure, and another third down sack.
22:36Vikings take over at their own 27.
22:38No score late first quarter.
22:40Jordan Mason in for the first time.
22:43Takes the fake, and there's Addison.
22:45Timing was a little bit off, and it's incomplete.
22:48We talk about what the Vikings' defense wants to be.
22:50Let's talk about what the Vikings' offense wants to be.
22:53The last few weeks, they've run the ball more because they felt like they had to
22:56to give J.J. McCarthy a better chance to get his footing.
22:59Last week was the most run-heavy first half ever under Kevin O'Connell.
23:04They had just 52 yards passing last week.
23:06The fewest they've had in a game in 13 years.
23:10That ain't who they want to be.
23:11They're eager to get back to who they've always been.
23:14A pass-happy and really good pass offense.
23:19Second and 10.
23:21Mason, nowhere to go.
23:23Ripped down by Drake Thomas.
23:25Yeah, so what Kevin O'Connell understands is the best down in football to throw,
23:30especially from a clean pocket, is first down.
23:33So run, run, and then third down pass, which has kind of been the formula that Kevin O'Connell's
23:38been kind of forced into over the last couple weeks just because some of the struggles they've
23:43had with J.J. McCarthy and the protection and all that.
23:46He understands the best offensive coaches around the league.
23:49They understand throw the ball on early downs and give you the opportunity to either skip
23:55third down or be in third and short and run to convert.
23:59That's the formula the best offenses want to operate in.
24:03And so this is not the formula.
24:04Third and long against the noise and against the blitz.
24:07Addison not close from Brosmer.
24:10Well, we've seen who his favorite target has been so far, but he's only hooked up one time
24:14with Addison.
24:15He had Jefferson running deep one-on-one and had a step on Joe, but went the other way.
24:20He made the right read.
24:22He's got off coverage.
24:24Seattle ends up, for the first time, bringing pressure, not just rushing four on third down.
24:28And he has soft coverage on Addison on the out-breaking route.
24:32And he just sails it.
24:36Wright's been busy.
24:396'3", 245-pound punter.
24:42Puts his weight behind it.
24:43Sends it downfield to Shahid.
24:46From the 16, Shahid, who can fly.
24:49Hits the sideline and goes out of bounds at the 33.
24:53So Seattle goes back on offense.
24:56Sam Darnold, who last year signed the one-year contract, and it was going to be a quarterback
25:01battle with the rookie, J.J. McCarthy.
25:03And it looked like he was probably going to win the job, Darnold, that is.
25:06And then it became a formality when McCarthy got hurt.
25:0914-3.
25:10Goes to the Pro Bowl for the first time, but it did not end well.
25:13He was really bad in the regular season finale.
25:16Not good in the playoffs.
25:17And so we mentioned it.
25:18When he signed that $100 million deal, a lot of eyes opened like, oh my goodness, Seahawks
25:23are taking a chance there, giving that money.
25:25Today, though, serves as a really nice landmark of validation for both the Seahawks and for
25:31Sam Darnold.
25:32Because there was a lot of talk.
25:33Maybe it's the system.
25:34Maybe it's that he has Justin Jefferson.
25:36New team, new system, new receivers, and he's been just as good.
25:41Again, he scrambles.
25:42He throws into traffic.
25:43Broken up and incomplete.
25:45He heaved it up there for the rookie tight end, Arroyo.
25:48And Josh Metellus knocked it away.
25:51Man, oh man, that was one on three.
25:53And Darnold putting the ball up there in a dangerous spot.
25:58Yeah, you'll see.
25:59He comes out.
25:59He's trying to look to the top of the field.
26:01Cooper Cupps working top of the field just against a cloud corner, meaning he's not going
26:05to back up.
26:06He understands he has his safety up over the top.
26:09So Darnold kind of clicks through his progression, and then it turns into scramble drill.
26:13And so far, I really like this scheme from the Minnesota defense.
26:17Brian Flores is mixing fronts, mixing coverages, and he's ultimately taking away the first read
26:23of Sam Darnold.
26:24Second and ten, handed off Walker.
26:28Stop by Blake Cashman.
26:30That's another fun subplot to this game.
26:32And that is that Sam Darnold feels like he really was hardened last year by practicing
26:37against this Minnesota defense every day.
26:39And him and Brian Flores have a fun relationship.
26:42But the Vikings also felt like they knew a way to make Sam Darnold uncomfortable.
26:46They intimately knew his weaknesses, and they thought they could exploit him.
26:50Brian Flores, I know it was kind-hearted, but he had some interesting quotes this year.
26:56He talked about the relationship and all during the week.
26:58But he said, make no mistake about it.
27:00We're going to blitz Sam Darnold.
27:02But then he said it playfully, but so far here early on, looks to be right.
27:06They're bringing it right here.
27:08Darnold steps up, delivers right before the blitz gets home, and finds A.J. Barner for a first down.
27:15Barner got to his feet, not knowing if he had been touched, but he was.
27:18And on a gain of 11, Barner has a first down.
27:22It's a really nice job here by Darnold.
27:25First off, the offensive line, who's been excellent, one of the best in the league.
27:28They take some of the fewest sacks in all of football, but just to give Darnold the opportunity
27:32to get from the left side, where three of his receivers were, all the way back to the
27:37frontside receiver, and convert on third down.
27:41The Seahawks offense that has been by far the best in the NFL at starting games this year.
27:47With a goose egg through a quarter.
27:50Nothing-nothing game.
27:51November coming to a close here in Seattle.
27:54On to the second.
27:58Meekies with a first and ten from their own 46.
28:07Sam Darnold just three for eight in the first quarter.
28:10Constantly under pressure.
28:15Over the middle he goes.
28:17Cooper Cupp with his second catch.
28:18Stop by the 14-year veteran Harrison Smith, and a gain of six.
28:23I want to go back to something we talked about in the first quarter, though, Joe.
28:26We talked about how Sam Darnold, he's so good pushing the ball downfield.
28:30The explosive element to this passing game, especially out of 12 personnel.
28:34But, you know, the turnovers creeped themselves.
28:37He had four against the Rams.
28:38I kind of think it speaks volumes to just what is the ceiling of this Seattle team.
28:43I mean, they're arguably the best team in football, and they're at the bottom of the league,
28:47in essence, in turning the ball over.
28:49I just think it speaks to their margin for error.
28:52In a league where turnovers dictate end of games, it's not necessarily the case always with Seattle.
28:58Darnold on second down.
29:00Sacked from behind by Dallas Turner.
29:02The ball is out.
29:03A scramble for it, and it looks like Cooper Cupp got there.
29:06And then farted away from Levi Drake Rodriguez.
29:09He's got 100 pounds on him.
29:11Cupp saves the day, but it's another sack for this Minnesota defense.
29:15And it's another third and long.
29:16You see him here at the bottom of the screen, Dallas Turner.
29:19He's working on the left tackle, Charles Cross.
29:22And he is a speed rusher.
29:24And with Darnold trying to click through his progression, you see him starting there left.
29:27He's going one, two.
29:29By the time you get to three, and you know your tackles are one-on-one with some speed edge guys,
29:34Grenard, Van Ginkle, Dallas Turner.
29:37You've got to get to your check down and get that ball out of your hand.
29:40Dallas Turner, third consecutive game with a sack.
29:43Silver lining and not having Grenard lately as the first-round pick of last year,
29:46and Turner has started to emerge.
29:49Here they come again.
29:51Darnold gets rid of it quickly.
29:53On the slant, it's Cody White.
29:55Just his second catch of the year.
29:57And, man, has he made them count.
29:59He had a 60-yard touchdown against the Commanders.
30:02And he's got 23 to convert third and long here.
30:04Nice, accurate ball there by Darnold to White.
30:09But it all starts in the backfield.
30:11The pass protection.
30:13Watch Charbonnet.
30:14We saw Wilson run unblocked on one of the previous third downs for a sack.
30:19And now, great job there by Charbonnet.
30:21Meeting him right in the hole.
30:22That's what gives Darnold the confidence to step into the ball,
30:26not back up first pressure.
30:27And a big third down conversion there for Seattle.
30:30That's one of the big areas of growth for Sam Darnold this year,
30:33not taking sacks like he did last year in Minnesota.
30:36He has cut his sack rate in half.
30:38Charbonnet makes the first-man miss and turns nothing into a gain of seven.
30:43Zach Charbonnet, third-year man out of UCLA,
30:46who is their specialist down around the goal line,
30:48but getting some work here around midfield.
30:54Charbonnet has seen his playing time dip a little bit the last couple weeks.
30:57You were talking about Kenneth Walker getting a bigger share of the play,
31:00playing time, but then Megan McDonald said,
31:02shoot, we diminish how much he's in there,
31:05but then we give it to him and he's awesome.
31:06So, what do we do?
31:08It's a good problem to have two running backs they're feeling good about.
31:13Second and three.
31:19Charbonnet again.
31:20Has room.
31:22Has the first down.
31:24Charbonnet to the 20.
31:25So, one thing about this run game coming into today's game, Joe,
31:33they're the only team in the league to run the ball over 50% of their snaps.
31:38So, they are high volume.
31:39They are going to force teams to say,
31:41okay, we are going to run it at you all day.
31:44They're a good run team.
31:45They're not particularly explosive.
31:47They're probably more efficient than they are explosive,
31:49but just due to the sheer volume of rushing attempts,
31:53they're kind of baiting people to jump into these heavy boxes,
31:56and that's where those big, deep, over-the-top play action shots start opening up.
32:01That's usually where Jackson Smith and Jigba gets involved.
32:03He's not been targeted, though.
32:05It's Walker getting lassoed down by Jalen Redman.
32:08Short game right there, second and long.
32:13Jalen Redman in the interior of this defensive line that brought in Javon Hargrave
32:17and Jonathan Allen, veterans with big reputations, brought them in on big contracts.
32:22Here's a guy who came from the UFL, got the last spot on the roster.
32:26He's probably been the best player on their defense.
32:28Oh, there's no question.
32:29And when you ask Brian Flores, talk about your front and Gernard and Van Ginkle,
32:34you mentioned Hargrave and Allen, really prominent names across the league.
32:38The first name out of his mouth is Jalen Redman.
32:42Jarvan is back in for Walker.
32:45On second and eight, Darnold back to the air.
32:47He's fed Cup again.
32:49Cup shoves Rodgers off him and muscles along the sideline, third down.
33:02Throughout his entire career, I'm not sure if there's been a better wide receiver,
33:05at least over the last 10 years or so, operating from motion.
33:10Then Cooper Cup continues here in Seattle.
33:13Notice third catch of the day, leading the team.
33:17Third down and short.
33:22Charbonnet, right side, first down.
33:25Behind that offensive line, Anthony Bradford and Abe Lucas over the right side.
33:29Get a good push.
33:31And it's first and goal for the Seahawks.
33:34That's an offensive line that for years has been an issue here,
33:37but has been a whole lot better this year.
33:40Yeah, and this is a great job here.
33:41Pre-snap by Sam Darnold.
33:43You heard him say, Linda, Linda takes the offensive line left,
33:47checks into that run game, and that's going to be the cat and mouse.
33:51Can you stay light bodies?
33:52If you're Minnesota, light boxes, light bodies.
33:55Keep a lid on the defense, but also not just let them run the ball in.
33:59Make them go the long way and then hold in the red zone.
34:03Charbonnet, stopped by Turner.
34:08We showed Abe Lucas paving the way that last time.
34:11Abe Lucas is finally healthy.
34:12That's been a big part of this offensive line, being so much better.
34:15Just 13 games played the previous two years because of a knee injury,
34:19but he gets healthy, gets the big contract extension at the start of this season.
34:24Extra special for a kid who grew up in Everett, Washington,
34:27going to games, watching games with his dad.
34:29He's a big Seahawks fan and now going to be a staple of this franchise
34:33with a long-term contract.
34:37Second and goal from the eight.
34:40Smith and Jigba motions.
34:42Tries Charbonnet again, and he was met in the backfield.
34:45It's Eric Wilson with another tackle for loss.
34:49The fourth already for Minnesota, Greg.
34:53It feels like you've called his name about ten times.
34:56You'll see Wilson just a little counter.
34:58The backside guard, Anthony Bradford, just a really bad job finding Wilson.
35:04There's just no reason to stop his feet, just run through the inside shoulder,
35:08and Charbonnet's going to take it up inside for a good game.
35:12Just Wilson, man, they said they brought him in to be a backup,
35:16and they're like, we can't get him off the field.
35:18He's just been too good.
35:20The third and goal from outside the ten.
35:23Darnold giving time.
35:25He's running out, and he's sacked by Andrew Van Ginkle.
35:29This defense suffocating for the Vikings in the first half,
35:32looking a lot like years past.
35:34The third sack.
35:38There you go.
35:39They want to be a bend, don't break, don't give up explosive plays.
35:42One-on-one with the tight end.
35:44A.J. Barner just has to understand that Zach Charbonnet is going to help you on the outside.
35:50So just, if Van Ginkle wants to run the wide hoop, let him.
35:53You know your back is going to be there, but when you overset,
35:56and you allow Van Ginkle to spin back inside, Charbonnet can't help him.
36:01Jason Myers with his NFL-leading 25th make of the season,
36:08and the Seahawks are on the board first.
36:09Saturday on Fox, a couple iconic programs going head-to-head in a top-15 showdown.
36:24Freshman phenom Cameron Boozer leading fourth-ranked Duke against Tom Izzo's Spartans
36:29coming off a big Thanksgiving Day win, all tipping off at 11.30 a.m. Eastern, only on Fox.
36:34Sam Darnold was limping around on the last drive, and he sent it into the injury tent.
36:42Pam Oliver down there, the Hall of Famer, keep a close eye on it for us.
36:46Vikings ready to get it again.
36:47Here's Price.
36:48Miles Price breaks a tackle and tiptoes close to the 30.
36:57So Brosmer and the Vikings back out there, and Sam Darnold, that great season for the Vikings last year.
37:02They make the decision, instead of re-signing him, to build around the young quarterback in J.J. McCarthy
37:07with Wentz getting time as well.
37:09Man, it's hard as Vikings fans to sit there and not wonder what if, because this is still a good Vikings team
37:16that has just had a massive drop-off at quarterback.
37:19And then they watch Sam Darnold do what he's done here in Seattle.
37:22What if he was still in Minnesota?
37:24What would this year look like after the 14 wins last year,
37:29and while they suffered through this 4-7 follow-up year?
37:33Brosmer and his first career start, 4-7.
37:36Yet to target Justin Jefferson.
37:41He's pressured.
37:42Here's C.J. Hawkinson.
37:44Pro Bowl tight end.
37:45They'd love to get going again.
37:47Tackled from behind by Witherspoon.
37:49That's 12 for Hawkinson, who has had by far the quietest year of his career,
37:54but a nice option for Brosmer to have.
37:57And he hits him for first down here.
37:58So one element of this passing game that they've been missing in Minnesota
38:03is the ability to get through the progression, Joe,
38:05and then get the ball to the check down, whether it's the tight end,
38:08whether it's the back.
38:10J.J. McCarthy was very willing to push the ball downfield.
38:14It didn't come with a very high completion percentage,
38:17but as much as they want to be aggressive in hunting explosives,
38:21they also want to get completions like we saw there.
38:24Back-to-back passes to start this drive.
38:26Brosmer steps up, gets chased, lets it go behind Jefferson, and incomplete.
38:30But it's another chance for one of these star receivers to help out the young quarterback.
38:36Jefferson, on his first target of the day, can't.
38:40It's just a ball that we're used to seeing Justin Jefferson catch,
38:43and he's working to his left.
38:45It's thrown behind him.
38:48But as we've said now a few times,
38:49there's going to be a few plays that the all-pros and the veterans around him
38:54are just going to have to help the young kid out,
38:55and that's one of them.
38:57Completes this one to Addison.
39:14You talk about Minnesota letting Sam Darnold go,
39:18and I'm sure Minnesota Vikings fans all over the country are looking and saying,
39:21man, what could have been?
39:23But don't forget, they also had Daniel Jones, right?
39:25Now, granted, he didn't get on the field and play necessarily in the games,
39:29but they had him in the building following his release.
39:32Of course, they tried to sign him.
39:34It was a much lower price point than re-signing Darnold.
39:37He chose, ultimately, to go to Indianapolis to compete for that job.
39:42Third and five.
39:43Brosmer back to throw.
39:45Brosmer throws on the run for Jefferson,
39:47who had to turn into a DB,
39:49and then Addison almost came and caught the deflection.
39:51Jefferson played corner there on Nick Emanwarri,
39:56who had a chance at a pick,
39:58and it's fourth and five.
39:59The punt team comes out.
40:02Yeah, so he's trying to just throw Jefferson to the sideline,
40:06and I don't care how long you practice.
40:08I don't care how many reps you get all week with Justin Jefferson.
40:11It's hard to simulate the speed of some of these receivers,
40:15and we've seen him now twice throw behind Justin Jefferson,
40:18continue to overframe the ball.
40:20It's either incomplete, or only your guy can get it.
40:25After what felt like a new low last week in Green Bay,
40:28not a whole lot better.
40:29Different quarterback here this week.
40:31Only 45 yards of offense for Minnesota.
40:34Four drives, four punts.
40:36Here comes Sam Darnold.
40:42Let's go, boys.
40:43One thing I've noticed about football fans
40:45is they all talk like the players can actually hear them.
40:48Proud of you.
40:49Looking good.
40:49Keep it up.
40:49But when you have Garco Insurance, you're going to...
40:51This Brian Flores defense has been excellent.
40:55Mixing up four- or five-man pressures, games, winning one-on-one matchups,
40:59and then this is what they want to be.
41:01They understand how explosive this Seattle offense is.
41:04Don't let them score in one play.
41:06Make them go the long way, and then battle for red zone stops.
41:10I mean, even last week in the loss against Green Bay,
41:13they held the Packers to under 300 yards.
41:15Did not give up a single explosive play.
41:18And here's another sack.
41:19The ball is out, the ball is out, and this time Minnesota's got it.
41:23Sack from Turner, recovery from Redman.
41:26Takeaway for the Vikings.
41:27Well, this is what's been missing from this Vikings defense.
41:35The ability to take the ball away.
41:38Double tight end, little wing, and just miscommunication there.
41:42For some reason, Nick Collarup, number 89, he was the on-ball tight end.
41:47And he just doesn't block Dallas Turner.
41:51I'm not exactly sure why, but they've gotten after Sam Darnold with the blitz.
41:57They've gotten after him with just straight rushes.
42:00And here, just a miscommunication up front by Seattle.
42:06Second sack, second forced fumble to this first half by Dallas Turner.
42:10For the Minnesota defense that led the NFL in takeaways last year,
42:14they get their first one in four games.
42:16And it sets up first down inside the 15.
42:20Aaron Jones stopped at the line of scrimmage by Ernest Jones.
42:26And it's second down and 10.
42:28Jones, a little bit slow to get up there.
42:31Aaron, that is, like I said, make sure which one it is.
42:35So the Vikings now try to take advantage,
42:37trying to end this three-game losing streak.
42:40Hitting it just four and seven as Max Brosmer makes his first NFL start.
42:46A dump-off.
42:59Hockinson upended at the 10.
43:02Ty Okada, who's questionable today with the oblique injury,
43:06able to give it a go and makes the tackle there to make it third and six.
43:09Yeah, so what's so hard about this Seattle defense to go up against,
43:14especially down here in the low red zone,
43:17is as the field shrinks,
43:19the ability to pack them up to create space for the run game really starts to go away.
43:25So they're going to try to make you either run it in and tackle you,
43:28throw it short of the goal line.
43:30They are going to do everything in their power to not let you throw the ball into the goal line,
43:34but make you run it there.
43:37All three receivers to the near side.
43:40Jefferson in motion.
43:42Third down.
43:43Brosmer lets it fly.
43:44Addison right near the marker got driven down by Joe.
43:48See where they spot him.
43:50It's going to be really close.
43:52If he's short, he figured no question they're going to go.
43:55Yeah, there's no question.
43:58You're on the road.
43:59You're the underdog.
44:00A young rookie making his first career start.
44:06Evan O'Connell's not even going to hesitate.
44:08They're going to go big personnel here
44:10and either try to score a touchdown
44:12or at least just get a fresh set of goal to go downs.
44:16Forth down and one.
44:17Inside the five.
44:18Vikings try to take advantage of the takeaway.
44:20He rolls.
44:27He's pressured.
44:28He's in trouble.
44:30Heaves it up.
44:30Oh, no.
44:31Ernest Jones.
44:33House call.
44:35He will take it all the way.
44:38A game-changing play from Ernest Jones.
44:4284 yards and no flags.
44:46Demarcus Lawrence was there to wreak havoc.
44:49Ernest Jones, the beneficiary.
44:55Well, some lessons in the NFL have to come the hard way.
45:01The play's over.
45:02Demarcus Lawrence, one of the best
45:04premier defensive linemen in the league
45:06over the last couple years,
45:07just take the sack.
45:09I know it feels tough to just accept defeat on fourth down.
45:12Just a young quarterback
45:14that's just not used to these situations
45:16and he desperately throws it underhand
45:19right into the chest of Ernest Jones
45:22and what looked like a prime opportunity
45:24for this Vikings offense to get on the board
45:26ends up going back for a pick six.
45:29And Ernest Jones, besides being their leading tackler,
45:31is now the team leader with four interceptions on the year.
45:35That's his first pick six.
45:36And somehow, there are points off turnover,
45:40but it's from the team that turned it over.
45:42Seahawks turn it over and then a pick six.

46:45Our departure has been delayed.
46:48Yeah!
46:49NFL Plus.
46:51Keep the NFL in reach.
46:54Max Brosmer learning on the job here
46:57in his first NFL start.
46:58On fourth down and one,
47:00an underhanded pick six.
47:02And what has been a really tough character-testing season
47:06for the Vikings,
47:07and Kevin O'Connell has continued here.
47:09Down 10-0.
47:11After Lawrence's pressure helps force the interception.
47:15First pick six for the Seattle defense this year,
47:17and it's just the latest example of what we're talking about.
47:20They're so good that they overcome their own turnover issues.
47:23That's a great example.
47:24Whether it's the offense's explosive element,
47:27the passing game,
47:28or in that case,
47:29how good this defense is,
47:31they can weather those negative plays.
47:33Also been the best special teams unit in the NFL.
47:37Price able to get to the 31 here.
47:38252, three timeouts,
47:40and Brosmer heads back out there.
47:41No matter how great he was in practice,
47:48no matter how confident they were in him,
47:50and no matter how great a career he's going to have,
47:53this is as big of an ask,
47:54as big of a challenge as you could have
47:56in your first NFL start.
47:57And I think it's important,
47:59you know,
47:59as hard as it's looked here in the first half,
48:01of course that last play,
48:03I don't think it'd be fair to make an indictment
48:05of the rest of his career,
48:06one way or another,
48:07but especially the struggles.
48:09This Seattle defense makes a lot of people look bad.
48:13Mason for a short game.
48:15And they think that there is still more in there.
48:17You talked to Mike McDonald
48:18about how good this defense has been.
48:20He said the vision is that we're the standard
48:22for the rest of the league.
48:23More and more people are looking at him
48:25as the defensive Sean McVay,
48:27as the hot young coach,
48:28who's the trendsetter.
48:30Oh, I don't think there's any question.
48:31I think his ability to not only implement a scheme,
48:35but then the combination of him and John Schneider
48:37to get the right pieces
48:38to operate it's pretty remarkable.
48:41Flag down.
48:42Brosmer steps up,
48:43and they're going to blow it dead.
48:46It was a false start.
48:47Yeah, so this is now a few times.
48:49Remember, we sat back in the first quarter.
48:51They're snapping the ball so fast.
48:53False start.
48:54Offense number 78.
48:56Five-yard friendly.
48:57Second down.
48:57They're snapping the ball so fast
49:00that it's almost like
49:01they're not letting everybody get set.
49:06How much of that is just Brosmer
49:09and the operation of a new quarterback?
49:11Yeah, I mean, it could be a lot of things.
49:12It could just be operationally.
49:14That's something that this Minnesota Vikings defense
49:16has really struggled with.
49:17Pre-snap penalties,
49:19too many men on the field,
49:20false starts.
49:22The operation in and out of the huddle
49:24and at the line of scrimmage
49:25has been poor
49:25all season long for Minnesota.
49:28Only the Bears have had more pre-snap penalties.
49:30Blitz comes.
49:31Mason able to slip away
49:32but lost the ball.
49:36Gets just a yard
49:37to the two-minute warning.
49:40Say what you will
49:41about the Vikings' quarterback issues this year,
49:43but no matter who the quarterback has been,
49:46there has not been much help.
49:49Seattle's defense making life extra tough.
49:52They've got the game's only touchdown.
49:54I get those goosebumps every time.
49:58Go all in on luxury.
50:11Only a four-man rush.
50:13Puckett still collapses
50:15and a sack for Demarcus Lawrence.
50:20Making Max Brosmer feel his presence
50:22the last couple possessions.
50:26Yeah, I mean,
50:27we sound like a broken record,
50:28but it's just the ability to rush with four
50:31and then they've got seven guys in coverage.
50:34You're in third and a mile.
50:35You're trying to push the ball past the sticks
50:37and just their ability to generate pressure
50:41on the quarterback without adding a fifth
50:43or sixth rusher.
50:44It's just very unique in the NFL
50:45and to be honest,
50:47I'm a little surprised
50:48Seattle didn't take a timeout.
50:51Yeah, they've got all three.
50:52Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't take a timeout
50:55after that sack.
50:56Instead, Minnesota's going to run
50:57a ton of time off here.
51:03Fifth punt of this first half from right.
51:05Shahid with a chance from the 26th,
51:07trying to use his speed to get around the edge.
51:10Rashid Shahid.
51:12Looked like maybe a block in the back there.
51:14Didn't get called.
51:15Yeah, and he brought it back.
51:17Return of 15, 58 seconds
51:19and those three timeouts.
51:20Let's see what's coming up at halftime.
51:24Coming up on the Verizon halftime,
51:26now that Thanksgiving's over,
51:27the playoff picture's really taking shape.
51:30Kurt, look, now that Thanksgiving is over,
51:32it's time to put up the Christmas lights, okay?
51:35You know the set's virtual, right?
51:37I don't care what it is.
51:38Anybody got a ladder?
51:39I need a ladder out here.
51:41We'll see you at the half.
51:42Depending on who you ask,
51:45they're behind, I think,
51:47in getting decorated for Christmas.
51:48Start early.
51:49If you ask my wife,
51:50they're about a month behind.
51:52Halloween, you take the Halloween stuff down.
51:54Our house has been ready for Christmas
51:55since Labor Day.
51:58Under a minute to go,
51:59all three timeouts for the Seahawks,
52:01who have not done anything offensively.
52:02The lone touchdown was scored by the defense,
52:04and here's Zach Charbonnet,
52:06conservatively right up the gut,
52:08but gets nine.
52:09And the clock continues to wind.
52:14We got two of the top receivers in the NFL in this game,
52:16by the way.
52:17Neither were the catch,
52:18Jackson Smith and Jigba and Justin Jefferson.
52:21Second and one,
52:21Darnold throws for Smith and Jigba,
52:24almost had a one-handed catch.
52:26It's incomplete.
52:27Jackson Smith and Jigba more than 1,300 yards this year.
52:30He's got a 260-yard lead for the NFL lead.
52:34Yeah, first time he's been targeted.
52:36Last week, he got off to a slow start,
52:38didn't have any targets in the first quarter,
52:40and then we know how the rest of the game went.
52:42He went absolutely crazy in that win
52:44against the Tennessee Titans.
52:47But, you know,
52:48I think if I'm Mike McDonald,
52:50Clint Kubiak,
52:52got a young offense for the Minnesota Vikings
52:54that hasn't showed they can do anything,
52:56try to extend this lead before half.
52:58Charbonnet powering forward
53:01and getting yanked down
53:03by Blake Cashman.
53:05Spot him right at the marker.
53:0824 seconds.
53:09Still have not used the timeout.
53:10Now they will.
53:11This is...
53:12Yeah, so...
53:13So think, they sacked
53:15Rosemarra...
53:17It's like a minute 40.
53:18...with like a minute 40.
53:20They just took their first timeout
53:21with 23 seconds left.
53:24They got a chance here to go down,
53:26score a touchdown,
53:27get the ball back
53:28to start the second half,
53:29and by the time Minnesota's offense,
53:31that hasn't shown they can do a whole lot,
53:33possesses the ball again,
53:35it could be 20 to nothing,
53:3724 to nothing.
53:38So, conservative approach,
53:40to say the least.
53:41Did get it off for a first down right there.
53:45So, of a first and 10
53:46of the 45-yard line,
53:48Darnold just 6 out of 12 today.
53:51We were talking about Smith and Jigba
53:53leading the NFL.
53:54He's on pace with an extra game,
53:56but to break Calvin Johnson's
53:58all-time NFL record,
53:59on pace to have the first
54:002,000-yard receiving season
54:02in NFL history.
54:03What makes it even more impressive
54:04is that this is the most
54:05run-heavy offense in the league.
54:0818 less pass attempts
54:10per game
54:10compared to that team
54:12with Calvin Johnson.
54:14Darnold goes outside
54:16for Rashid Shahid.
54:17Just his fourth catch
54:18in his four games
54:19since coming over in the trade.
54:20Fabian Moreau throws him
54:21out of bounds
54:22after a game of 7.
54:2419 seconds,
54:25getting into the edges.
54:26A field goal range
54:27for Jason Myers.
54:29He's a 55-yarder from here,
54:31which is within Myers' range.
54:35What's so unique
54:36about Jackson Smith and Jigba
54:38was last year?
54:38He leads the league
54:39in yards from the slot.
54:41An interior player,
54:42and now this year
54:43he's on historical pace
54:44and doing the vast majority
54:45of his damage
54:46as a perimeter player
54:47like he's lined up here
54:49at the top of the screen.
54:52Hit at the line.
54:54Incomplete.
54:54Blake Cashman on the blitz.
54:56Got his hand on it.
54:58It is tough of a first half
54:59as it's been
55:00for the Vikings offense
55:01and Max Brosmer.
55:02Not been a whole lot better
55:03for Sam Darnold.
55:047 for 14 now.
55:05Just 77 yards.
55:08This Vikings defense
55:10has been incredible.
55:11They're one of the best
55:12in the league
55:12at attacking the running back.
55:15Here it's Blake Cashman
55:16working on Zach Charbonnet.
55:17He's able to defeat the block.
55:20Vikings.
55:21Those are the opportunities, though.
55:22Those tips,
55:23those batted balls.
55:24If you're going to pull an upset,
55:25you're going to hang here
55:26on the road
55:27and try to get your hands on them.
55:29Third down and three.
55:32Not an easy field goal attempt
55:33from here.
55:34Pressure coming from the Vikings
55:35and Harrison Smith
55:36this time continues
55:37the volleyball match.
55:39Unevaded off of the edge
55:40right there
55:41to just spike it
55:42into the ground.
55:46Listen,
55:47you're not going to find
55:48a bigger Mike McDonald fan
55:50than the two guys
55:51sitting in this booth.
55:52We could go on and on
55:53about the job he's done.
55:55Call it two years
55:56here in Seattle.
55:58The job he did previously
55:59in Baltimore.
55:59I just,
56:00you have the game.
56:01You're at home.
56:02A struggling Minnesota offense.
56:04You force a sack.
56:06You're going to now
56:06go into halftime
56:07with two remaining timeouts
56:09and you're settling
56:10for a,
56:11you know,
56:12a 54-year,
56:1356-yard field goal.
56:14From Myers.
56:16It is
56:17good.
56:19Second make
56:19of this first half.
56:21185th in his time
56:22with the Seahawks.
56:23That is a franchise record.
56:25They settle for the three,
56:28though.
56:2813-0.
56:29Closing seconds
56:30of this first half.
56:36There,
56:37Jason Myers bomb away
56:38from winning the game
56:39in L.A.
56:39a couple weeks ago,
56:40even though Sam Darnold
56:41had the four interceptions.
56:43Myers missed it
56:44from 60-plus.
56:46Three losses this year
56:47for the Seahawks.
56:48A total of nine points,
56:49those three losses.
56:50We'll be right back
56:51after a word from this,
56:52or after a message
56:53from Little Caesar.
56:54How much we can get
56:55a stuffed crust pizza
56:56at a great price?
56:57Deal, dear.
56:59Get Little Caesar's
57:00new large stuffed crunch crust
57:01for $9.49.
57:02Look at that delicious crust.
57:05Talk about more
57:06bang for your buck.
57:07What did you say?
57:10Deal, dear.
57:10He hates two things.
57:12Bad pizza deals
57:13and deer puns.
57:17He's fine.
57:18In $9.49,
57:19new large stuffed crunch crust
57:20is the lowest price
57:21in stuffed crust.
57:22Little Caesar's
57:22is the real deal.
57:23Pizza, pizza.
57:2584 yards of offense
57:26for the Seahawks,
57:2749 yards of offense
57:29for the Vikings.
57:31Great defense
57:32in today's game.
57:33Glass half full.
57:39Seahawks with a chance
57:40to draw even
57:41at the top of the division,
57:43at the top of the NFC today
57:44with the Rams losing earlier.
57:47Miles Price
57:48across 33 seconds
57:50and one play here
57:51to bring this first half
57:52to a close.
57:55Horizon halftime
57:56when this half comes
57:57to a close.
57:59Rosemar in his
57:59first NFL start,
58:019 for 15 today.
58:02The one critical mistake
58:03producing the game's
58:05only touchdown.
58:06pick six from Ernest Jones.
58:10And Demarcus Lawrence
58:11had a hand in that.
58:12He's got a sack.
58:13He's all over Brosemar
58:15forcing that interception throw.
58:17And with those
58:21offensive numbers
58:22we gave you,
58:22the big deal moment
58:23brought to you by Walmart.
58:25It has to come
58:25from the defense.
58:26The only touchdown
58:27to this ballgame.
58:29This fourth and one play,
58:30Vikings were looking
58:31for the end zone
58:31instead of as Ernest Jones
58:33headed to the other end
58:34for his first career
58:35pick six.
58:36And it's 13 to nothing
58:38Seattle as the Seahawks
58:39try to move to nine and three
58:41and try to hand the Vikings
58:42their fourth consecutive loss.
58:45The Verizon halftime's
58:46coming up right after
58:47these messages
58:48and a word from your
58:49local Fox station.
58:50See and best first half
58:52team in the NFL
58:53has a 13 nothing lead
58:54as we welcome it back inside.
58:56Get ready for the second half.
58:57Joe Davis and Greg Olson.
58:58Neither offense
58:59did anything in that first half.
59:00It was a big defensive play.
59:02That was the difference.
59:03Yeah, and I think
59:03we're going to focus
59:03on the positives.
59:04You said we're going to
59:05glass half full.
59:06Both these defenses
59:07as advertised.
59:09This Seattle unit
59:10we came on to the broadcast
59:11saying it potentially
59:11could be the best unit
59:13overall.
59:14Allows them to cover up
59:15some of the struggles,
59:16some of the turnovers,
59:17their wide margin of
59:17of
59:18intersection of the
59:20reopenings.
59:24There it is.
59:25And we're going to be
59:26looking forward to seeing
59:27our list throughout the
59:27season.
59:29Which is the mostح
59:42of the late
