00:00Okay, so at a patrol beach we have people watching the water. We've got rescue
00:06equipment and first aid equipment and we can help people whether it's in the
00:10water or on the beach. At a non-patrolled beach, just think that none of that is
00:16there. So no lifeguards or lifesavers, no rescue equipment, no first aid equipment.
00:21So usually if something, a tragedy unfolds at a unpatrolled beach it's
00:26going to take quite a while for a response and equipment to actually get
00:32there to perform the rescue. Hopefully, you know, there's bystanders or
00:37surfers nearby that might be able to render assistance but often that's not
00:41the case and that's why you hear so many tragedies at our uncontrolled locations.
00:46And what are some of the biggest misconceptions that you might hear about
00:51when it comes to rips at beaches? Yeah, so at our beaches, you know, you've got
00:58waves, lots of water movement, tides. Every wave brings water into the beach and
01:04somehow that water has to get back out somehow and that could be a visible rip
01:09but it could also be through gutters or channels close to the shore as well and
01:15sometimes those spots look like nice calm water. In fact, they could be a deadly
01:21swimming spot.
