00:00It's doubtful that anyone will be surprised by the following information, but BBC America
00:04hit Killing Eve has been renewed for a third season just one day after its second season
00:08return. The news was announced Monday at a summit for AMC networks including BBC
00:13America and IFC by group president Sarah Barnett. British writer Susanna Heathcote
00:18will take over for Emerald Fennell, who in turn took over for creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge,
00:21keeping up the tradition of allowing a new showrunner for each season to allow
00:25new female writing voices to be heard. Said Waller-Bridge,
00:28I'm very excited that the Killing Eve baton is being passed on to another incredible writer
00:32for season three. We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in
00:36Susanna Heathcote's hilariously murderous hands.
00:38Meanwhile, Barnett expressed her excitement at the news saying,
00:41We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks.
00:46Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons.
00:50As we did last year, we're renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate now with
00:54Susanna Heathcote as lead writer as a sign of confidence. We adore this show as much as
00:58our fans do. Killing Eve doesn't do anything in a templated way. We love giving opportunity
01:03to these three genius women to make their mark.
01:05The series, which stars Oh and Jodie Comer as an MI5 operative and a psychopathic
01:09assassin, has enjoyed consistently high ratings and resulted in a 2018 Golden Globe win for
01:14Oh in the best actress category, as well as a slew of additional nominations and wins
01:18at other award shows. Season 2 returns Sunday and was similar cast on both BBC America and AMC
01:23in a bid to bring more viewers to the critical darling drama.
01:27Said outgoing showrunner Fennell,
01:28It's been such an exciting year for me on Killing Eve. I think it's cool that this tradition
01:32has been built into this untraditional show. Inheriting some of Phoebe's characters was a treat
01:37and I can't wait to see what Susanne does next.
