The Hollywood Reporter rounds up everything to remember about the Emmy-winning HBO drama ahead of its fourth and final season.
Transcript
00:00HBO's Emmy-winning drama, Succession, returns Sunday, March 26th, and with only 10 episodes
00:05remaining, we're breaking down everything you need to know heading into season four.
00:15Let's start with the most obvious. The Roy dynasty is coming to an end.
00:19Creator Jesse Armstrong announced that season four will indeed be its last,
00:23closing out the saga of media mogul Logan Roy and his adult children, including Kendall,
00:28Roman, Shiv, and all the other important players closely tied to Waystar Royco,
00:33like Shiv's husband Tom and cousin Greg. The stars chatted with The Hollywood Reporter both on the
00:38red carpet at the Succession premiere and through Zoom about saying goodbye to their characters
00:43and working with the cast and crew over the course of four seasons.
00:46I feel like I've come to a crazy kind of like funeral party or something, you know, it's like
00:51it's the beginning of the end and but there's a lot of celebration and a lot of sadness because
00:55it's like the last time we're going to do this, but also like happiness because we love each other.
00:59Doing the scenes with Jeremy has been a truly great experience. I mean, he is a wonderful actor
01:04to work with, I mean, in that sense. And so that relationship has been very powerful and the
01:09writing has also been very powerful. We've worked on something really, really top tier. So,
01:15so yeah, saying goodbye to him and it was definitely emotional.
01:19Now, where do we pick up? The end of Season 3 found Waystar Wayco in a pretty dire state.
01:25Logan's health is failing, Kendall has led public crusades against his father,
01:29and then there is tech innovator Lucas Mattson, whose company is attempting to buy Waystar from
01:33the Roys for a pretty penny. The siblings band together to try to stop the sale, but a major betrayal
01:39from Tom exposes their plan to Logan and the season ends with Waystar's sale to Mattson all but inevitable.
01:45Outside of dealing with this major cliffhanger, other potential storylines for Season 4
01:50could be the podcast Kendall discovers that's doing a deep dive into the curse of the Roys.
01:54The publication of the podcast could lead to more than a few bombshell reveals.
01:59Another storyline could be the revelation of Kendall's role in the death of waiter Andrew Dodds
02:03at Shiv's wedding, and Logan's role in covering it up, which could get ugly.
02:08And among a number of other possible storylines, let's not forget, everyone has a scandal covered up,
02:13and that could all implode in the final season. As Kieran Culkin puts it,
02:17the Roys aren't really being the smartest right now.
02:19They're not thinking clearly, they're just trying to beat Dad instead of
02:22make a really smart business decision.
02:24As far as tying up loose ends are concerned, Season 4 will hopefully answer the all-important
02:28question, who will succeed Logan to run Waystar Roy Co., i.e. the title of the show.
02:33One prediction is that Logan will die in order to answer the obvious question.
02:38Another prediction, Logan's death will make the succession question impossible to answer
02:42Queenly. He'll die at an inopportune time in a way that serves as a final off to his children.
02:47As for who Brian Cox thinks should be the chosen successor...
02:51My advice to him is he should have cut his losses a long time ago.
02:55But he really did think it should be Siobhan.
03:01Now whether or not the story will move on in the form of a spin-off remains to be seen,
03:05but many in the cast did offer their own prediction on who would make for the best spin-off.
03:10Well, I suppose Greg really would be the natural spin-off, you know, the life of an idiot, you
03:16know, would be an interesting thing, a tall idiot at that.
03:19I mean, Tom and Greg, like some sort of half-hour comedy, you know, like setting up the head office
03:26in Vancouver.
03:27You'd have to drop Tom and Greg into some weird world, you know, drop them into, into, you know,
03:34the Philippines or something.
03:35The cast also answered whether or not they're satisfied with how the series wraps up.
03:40I think it ends up as Jesse would like it to end up, you know, because it's still,
03:48it's still a satire.
03:50It's a satisfying end, but there could also be more. That's how it feels.
03:55This isn't the kind of show I think that could, you could just put a bow on it. I don't think that
04:00that's what this is.
04:01With the finale only a few days away, fans will get the answers they're looking for
04:05one way or another. For more on this story, head to THR.com.
