00:00Impeachment is a long shot for many reasons.
00:04John Oliver explained why he doesn't think President Donald Trump will get impeached
00:08on Sunday's Last Week Tonight. The host took a deep look at Trump's scandal-filled week,
00:13including reports that the president asked former FBI Director James Comey to drop his
00:18investigation into former NSA head Michael Flynn. But despite increasing calls for Trump
00:23to be impeached or resign, Oliver cautioned people against hoping either would happen
00:27because it would mean Mike Pence, a hardline conservative, would-be president.
00:32He then worked his way down the presidential line of succession, including Paul Ryan and Orrin Hatch.
00:37The host explained that a majority of the House would have to vote to impeach Trump,
00:41but the House is currently controlled by Republicans. It would then need two-thirds of the Senate
00:45to vote to convict the president, and it is also controlled by Republicans right now.
00:50Oliver's conclusion?
00:51That Trump will survive this and continue as president, which shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone.
00:57Oliver continued,
00:58Why would this be the end of the line for him?
01:00Trump has seemed to reach the end of the line on multiple occasions, only for nothing to happen.
