00:07Jimmy Kimmel is prepping for hosting duties in a new promotional spot ahead of the 2023 Academy Awards.

00:14Kimmel, who is back to host the event for the third time, debuted the spot during Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday,

00:19which parodies a scene in Top Gun Maverick with Bo Cyclone Simpson, played by Jon Hamm,

00:25and Solomon Warlock Bates, played by Charles Parnell.

00:27I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to be asked to host again.

00:31Well, let me be perfectly clear.

00:32You were not my first choice, or my second choice, or my third, fourth, fifth, or eleventh choice.

00:39The video pokes fun at last year's infamous moment involving Will Smith slapping presenter Chris Rock at the ceremony

00:45that was co-hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes.

00:49ABC has tasked us with finding a host who is unflappable and unslappable.

00:54Good. Oh, that's good, because I can't get slapped.

00:57I cry a lot.

00:58Kimmel also references the infamous 2017 Oscar ceremony that he hosted,

01:03which is known for its mix-up of La La Land incorrectly being named Best Picture

01:08before it was realized that Moonlight actually received the top prize.

01:12And then I'll lead a standing ovation for someone old,

01:15and if I make it out, there's only four or five hours left until we give Best Picture to hopefully the right movie.
