00:00Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have both passed on hosting the 2025 Oscars.
00:06ABC is said to have made offers to Kimmel and Mulaney,
00:09both of whom passed on the job as first reported by Puck News.
00:12Kimmel, ABC's late-night host, was offered the opportunity first.
00:16He's already emceed the Academy Awards four times, including the last two years,
00:20but he ultimately said no.
00:22The decision may come as a surprise to those who know Kimmel to ultimately say yes
00:25to most major ABC gigs in the name of being a good partner.
00:28But he's also been vocal in recent years about his desire to have more balance in his life,
00:33which played into his decision to take the summers off at Jimmy Kimmel Live.
00:36As for Mulaney, his name has been bandied about as a potential host
00:40ever since he won over the Oscar crowd at the Governor's Awards earlier this year.
00:44The year prior, Mulaney had been asked by The Hollywood Reporter
00:46if he would ever consider hosting the Oscars.
00:49He said at the time,
00:50Sure, why not? It would be really fun. It's hosting the Academy Awards.
00:54Johnny Carson did that.
00:55And while the comic addressed the possibility more recently,
00:58telling THR in June that he, quote,
01:00wouldn't necessarily say no,
01:02in the end he decided to pass for this year.
01:04Though hosting the Oscars is a prestigious opportunity,
01:07it's also a massive, months-long and often thankless undertaking.
01:11Plus, Mulaney would have had to give up other opportunities,
01:13including another likely and hugely lucrative stand-up tour.
01:17Fortunately for the Academy and ABC,
01:19there's still plenty of time to find a host.
01:21The Oscars aren't slated to air until Sunday, March 2nd.
01:24ABC declined to comment for this story,
01:26and the Academy did not immediately respond.
