"That's right. We had the second worst ratings of all time," Colbert said. "In your face."
Transcript
00:00I swear I heard someone say at the Emmys that they were the highest rated ever.
00:05Stephen Colbert won't tolerate any fake news from President Donald Trump.
00:09He corrected the president's Emmy ratings tweet on the late show Wednesday night.
00:13This particular Colbert-Trump showdown kicked off when Colbert hosted the awards show on Sunday
00:18and joked about Trump's obsession with ratings.
00:21What really matters to Donald Trump is ratings.
00:24Trump dropped his Emmys thoughts on Twitter Tuesday and, no surprise, his post was all about the ratings.
00:29He tweeted,
00:30"...I was saddened to see how bad the ratings were on the Emmys last night. The worst ever.
00:35Smartest people of them all are the deplorables."
00:38Colbert set the record straight on Wednesday's late show and referenced Sean Spicer's controversial cameo,
00:43where the former press secretary claimed,
00:45"...this will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period."
00:49Colbert told his viewers of Trump's post,
00:51"...I do want to point out that every single part of that tweet was factually incorrect.
00:56First of all, the Emmys weren't on Monday night, as Trump's tweet suggested, but on Sunday night.
01:01Colbert joked,
01:02"...I checked the TV schedule and he must have been watching NCIS New Orleans."
01:06The late-night host then fact-checked Trump's claims that the 2017 Emmys were the worst rated.
01:11According to the Nielsen ratings, this year's Emmys had 11.4 million viewers,
01:16which is 100,000 more than the lowest rated Emmys of all time in 2016.
01:21"...That's right. We had the second worst ratings of all time in your face."
01:26The segment ended with Colbert and his audience chanting,
01:29"...we suck less."
01:30As for Spicer, the former press secretary addressed his Emmys appearance and the backlash it received
01:35on Thursday's Good Morning America.
01:37According to Spicer, Trump thought this of his cameo.
01:40"...He was very supportive. He thought I did a great job."
