00:03At a rally in Rochester, Minnesota, President Donald Trump took shots at former Minnesota
00:07lawmaker Al Franken for resigning from the Senate after he was accused of sexual
00:12misconduct. The move came just two days after the president invoked criticism from
00:16lawmakers in his own party for making fun of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford at a different
00:20rally. On that occasion, Trump drew laughs from his supporters as he, often incorrectly,
00:24cited Dr. Ford's testimony against his Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh.
00:28Senator Jeff Flake called his actions kind of appalling, while Senator Susan Collins
00:32labeled them as just plain wrong, and Senator Lisa Murkowski said they were wholly
00:36inappropriate and, in my view, unacceptable. On Thursday night, Trump began talking about
00:41comedian-turned-politician Franken after criticizing Senator Tina Smith.
00:44She took a wacky guy's place, he said, adding later,
00:47Boy, did he fold up like a wet rag, huh? Man, he was gone so fast. He was gone so fast.
00:52I don't want to mention Al Franken's name. Okay, so I won't mention it, he said to
00:56Trump's booze in the crowd. Added Trump,
00:57It was like, I did something? Oh, I resign. I quit. Wow, he was gone and he was replaced
01:02by somebody nobody had ever heard of.
01:04Franken resigned from his post last December after Democratic colleagues in the Senate
01:07called for him to step down following three weeks of sexual misconduct allegations.
01:12The former comedian was accused of touching and kissing women without their consent,
01:16and in one case there was a photograph of the alleged misconduct.
01:20While making the announcement of his resignation, Franken maintained that some of the
01:23allegations against him were false. To read more on this story, head to THR.com.
