00:12are in luck because Al Franken is happy to answer your burning questions.
00:16Franken appeared on CBS's The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday to talk about how
00:20he went from playing a senator on Saturday Night Live to actually becoming one in real
00:26life. He's the only man to have done this so far.
00:29Franken told Colbert that many of his colleagues in the Senate are actually funny. Who knew?
00:34And he revealed that that is how he bonds with them.
00:36Lindsey Graham is very funny, said Franken, who was promoting his book, Al Franken, Giant
00:41of the Senate. He recalls telling Graham once, if I were voting in the Republican primaries,
00:46I'd vote for you. And without hesitation, he said, that's my problem.
00:50However, not all of Franken's colleagues get his sense of humor. Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn,
00:55for example.
00:56Franken explains that his first few interactions with Coburn were awkward, so he invited him
01:00out for a meal to get to know each other better and have some fun.
01:04He says he asked Coburn, to be a doctor in Oklahoma, do you have to have any formal education?
01:09Which prompted Coburn to get heated and exclaim, yes, you've got to go to medical school.
01:13The two funny men chatted about when Franken used to poke fun at politicians, with Franken
01:21remembering being sued by Bill O'Reilly and calling it a big misunderstanding.
01:26Bill O'Reilly didn't understand that satire is protected speech in the United States, even
01:30if the object of the satire doesn't get it, he said.
