00:26The U.S. President threw his weight behind Esfura on Wednesday.

00:29I hope the people of Honduras vote for freedom and democracy

00:34and elect Esfura president.

00:36Some welcomed the announcement,

00:39and the U.S. investment they say would come with a Conservative victory.

00:42I think it's very beneficial since the United States is a very powerful country.

00:48I mean, it could provide us with a lot of economic aid.

00:53Others were less convinced by Trump's antics.

01:20former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez.

01:24The former right-wing leader was convicted in 2024

01:27of conspiring to traffic cocaine into the United States

01:30and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

01:33Despite belonging to the same party, Esfura has denied any ties

01:38to the disgraced ex-president.
