00:00For Ivorians, it was time to take to the polls and make a choice.
00:04The choice of who will lead the country for the next five years among the five candidates on the ballot.
00:09Haunted by the violence that marked previous presidential elections,
00:13many of them say they are voting for peace and stability in Ivory Coast.
00:17It's important for me to be here today for the peace of my country,
00:21for the stability of my country and also for the development of my country.
00:25One of the major challenges of this election is voter turnout,
00:28especially among young people.
00:30After peaking at 81% in 2010, turnout fell to 53% in the 2020 presidential election.
00:38This is my first time voting and it's a dream come true.
00:41Today it's our turn. So it's a pleasure for us. It's our duty.
00:45Over a thousand observers from Ivorian civil society and regional organizations
00:50were deployed throughout the country to monitor the smooth running of the election.
00:54Although election day was generally peaceful,
00:57a few isolated incidents were reported here and there.
01:01Overall, the atmosphere is calm.
01:03The isolated incidents we have seen include the vandalism of ballot boxes in certain areas.
01:08The preliminary results are expected to be published
01:11by the Independent Electoral Commission early next week.
