00:00I'm here to give thanks to all the rebels out there forging a new path and taking the heat
00:08for all of it. Madonna is calling out those who have picked apart pictures of her at Sunday's
00:132023 Grammys. In an Instagram post shared late Tuesday, the music icon responded to criticism
00:20over her appearance. The singer says that the photos were taken with a long lens camera by a
00:25press photographer that would distort anyone's face and were a distraction from the historic
00:30win of trans music artist Kim Petrus and non-binary singer Sam Smith, whose performance of Unholy
00:36she introduced at the awards show. In the lengthy post, she writes,
00:46once again, I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.
00:51The post was accompanied by a video of her hanging out with the likes of Cardi B,
00:55Smith and others. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45
00:59and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong-willed,
01:03hardworking, and adventurous. The icon goes on to add that she has been unapologetic about her
01:08brand and creative choices as a performer, which includes how she looks and what she wears, adding,
01:14and I'm not going to start apologizing. Elsewhere, Madonna took the time to explain why she passed
01:19on presenting the Album of the Year award and instead opted to introduce Smith and Petrus.
01:24Two incredibly talented artists who have risen above the noise, the doubt, the critics
01:31into something beautifully unholy. I thought it was more important that I present the first
01:40trans woman performing at the Grammys, a history-making moment, and on top of that,
01:45she won a Grammy. For more details on this story, head to THR.com. And for the latest
