00:00How you guys make this work day in and day out?
00:02I don't know if there's a secret.
00:03I just think that you can't even explain chemistry.
00:06It's just that either you have it or you don't.
00:09Chemistry can look really good on paper,
00:10and then you put the people together, and it doesn't work.
00:14I think we look good on paper, and it actually works.
00:17And I think we all come to the table with different strengths and different...
00:21Different backgrounds.
00:21Yeah, different backgrounds.
00:23We complement each other very well.
00:25And there's moments in the show where we know we can have fun,
00:28and we really look forward to it.
00:30When we can lighten the mood a little bit,
00:32not just for the viewer, but for each other.
00:34And it gets a little giddy on set when we know that the segment is coming up.
00:38Like, talk at the table, for example.
00:40I'm looking at Tony. He's looking at me,
00:42and I know Tony's going to come with the story that's going to make me chuckle
00:45and be informative.
00:47That's the best part of working with people that you enjoy working with.
00:49You had a good one today.
00:51What was it today?
00:52I have cats know their names.
00:54Yes, yes, yes.
00:55And they know your name.
00:58And they're listening to you.
01:00They're just pretending not to listen.
01:01A lot of it is his delivery, too.
01:03No doubt.
01:03But we just have a good time.
01:04And listen, we're not a comedy routine.
01:06And I believe that you can have fun and be funny and not be silly.
01:10There's a difference.
01:12Corny sometimes works, but I think you can have a great sense of humor.
01:15But we also know when it's time, you know, to be serious.
01:18Like this week, Tony was in Buffalo on the scene there.
01:21Me and, you know, telling those stories, too, that need to be told.
01:24And that's what I like about morning television.
01:26You get a whole big range.
01:28I mean, and look at these people.
01:30Don't they look like nice people?
01:31Don't they look like they play nicely with us?
01:33This looks like a winning team.
01:35Let's get a nice shot.
01:36How about that?
01:37Yes.
01:37Not bad at all, right?
01:38I do want to ask, what is one story happening in the news right now that isn't getting as
01:42much coverage as you think it should?
01:44Fortunately, we have tremendous ability to cover what we'd like to cover.
01:47So we're getting it all in there, really.
01:49I can't think of anything.
01:51I mean, there are things.
01:52Obviously, it's a two-hour show.
01:53You can't go three hours.
01:54But I don't get up and say, God, we really missed a boat on, you know, X, Y, and Z.
02:00I actually think we do a pretty good job.
02:03I think we do.
02:04And finally, we are celebrating media.
02:06We're celebrating New York.
02:08How would you describe New York in three words?
02:12Gee, you know, dirty, hot, sexy.
02:18Ooh, I like that.
02:20Sexy, we love it.
02:21You started off a little shaky, then you brought it around.
02:23Dirty, hot, sexy.
02:24And that's spot on.
02:25I said incredibly powerful place.
02:30Gritty.
02:32Gritty.
02:35Powerful.
02:35Okay, all right.
02:38But magical.
02:40Ooh.
02:41Love it.
02:42It really is.
02:42It's a magical place.
02:43I'm not kidding.
02:44Every day I come to work, early in the morning, I say to the driver just about every morning,
02:48isn't Times Square amazing?
02:50That's right.
02:50When you're there in the morning, I mean, I get out of the car energized when you drive
02:55through and you look at the ads.
02:56I know people said, Stephen Colbert said to me, well, Gail, they're supposed to smile in
03:00the ads.
03:00I get that.
03:01But there's just something about Times Square in the morning when there are very few people
03:05there.
03:06It does feel very magical to me.
03:08It is.
03:08Don't you?
03:08And the people who are there are having an experience.
03:12Because, you know, it's five in the morning and they're like, ah!
03:14We get to go there every single day.
03:17And that, to me, is a magical moment every single day.
03:20And I guess the only way we can end this is, do you believe in magic?
03:24All right, I'm going to, all right, now we're out of here.
03:25Good talking.
03:26All right, yeah.
03:26Thank you guys so much.
03:28Take care.
