00:00
How you guys make this work day in and day out?
00:02
I don't know if there's a secret.
00:03
I just think that you can't even explain chemistry.
00:06
It's just that either you have it or you don't.
00:09
Chemistry can look really good on paper,
00:10
and then you put the people together, and it doesn't work.
00:14
I think we look good on paper, and it actually works.
00:17
And I think we all come to the table with different strengths and different...
00:21
Different backgrounds.
00:21
Yeah, different backgrounds.
00:23
We complement each other very well.
00:25
And there's moments in the show where we know we can have fun,
00:28
and we really look forward to it.
00:30
When we can lighten the mood a little bit,
00:32
not just for the viewer, but for each other.
00:34
And it gets a little giddy on set when we know that the segment is coming up.
00:38
Like, talk at the table, for example.
00:40
I'm looking at Tony. He's looking at me,
00:42
and I know Tony's going to come with the story that's going to make me chuckle
00:45
and be informative.
00:47
That's the best part of working with people that you enjoy working with.
00:49
You had a good one today.
00:51
What was it today?
00:52
I have cats know their names.
00:54
Yes, yes, yes.
00:55
And they know your name.
00:58
And they're listening to you.
01:00
They're just pretending not to listen.
01:01
A lot of it is his delivery, too.
01:03
No doubt.
01:03
But we just have a good time.
01:04
And listen, we're not a comedy routine.
01:06
And I believe that you can have fun and be funny and not be silly.
01:10
There's a difference.
01:12
Corny sometimes works, but I think you can have a great sense of humor.
01:15
But we also know when it's time, you know, to be serious.
01:18
Like this week, Tony was in Buffalo on the scene there.
01:21
Me and, you know, telling those stories, too, that need to be told.
01:24
And that's what I like about morning television.
01:26
You get a whole big range.
01:28
I mean, and look at these people.
01:30
Don't they look like nice people?
01:31
Don't they look like they play nicely with us?
01:33
This looks like a winning team.
01:35
Let's get a nice shot.
01:36
How about that?
01:37
Yes.
01:37
Not bad at all, right?
01:38
I do want to ask, what is one story happening in the news right now that isn't getting as
01:42
much coverage as you think it should?
01:44
Fortunately, we have tremendous ability to cover what we'd like to cover.
01:47
So we're getting it all in there, really.
01:49
I can't think of anything.
01:51
I mean, there are things.
01:52
Obviously, it's a two-hour show.
01:53
You can't go three hours.
01:54
But I don't get up and say, God, we really missed a boat on, you know, X, Y, and Z.
02:00
I actually think we do a pretty good job.
02:03
I think we do.
02:04
And finally, we are celebrating media.
02:06
We're celebrating New York.
02:08
How would you describe New York in three words?
02:12
Gee, you know, dirty, hot, sexy.
02:18
Ooh, I like that.
02:20
Sexy, we love it.
02:21
You started off a little shaky, then you brought it around.
02:23
Dirty, hot, sexy.
02:24
And that's spot on.
02:25
I said incredibly powerful place.
02:30
Gritty.
02:32
Gritty.
02:35
Powerful.
02:35
Okay, all right.
02:38
But magical.
02:40
Ooh.
02:41
Love it.
02:42
It really is.
02:42
It's a magical place.
02:43
I'm not kidding.
02:44
Every day I come to work, early in the morning, I say to the driver just about every morning,
02:48
isn't Times Square amazing?
02:50
That's right.
02:50
When you're there in the morning, I mean, I get out of the car energized when you drive
02:55
through and you look at the ads.
02:56
I know people said, Stephen Colbert said to me, well, Gail, they're supposed to smile in
03:00
the ads.
03:00
I get that.
03:01
But there's just something about Times Square in the morning when there are very few people
03:05
there.
03:06
It does feel very magical to me.
03:08
It is.
03:08
Don't you?
03:08
And the people who are there are having an experience.
03:12
Because, you know, it's five in the morning and they're like, ah!
03:14
We get to go there every single day.
03:17
And that, to me, is a magical moment every single day.
03:20
And I guess the only way we can end this is, do you believe in magic?
03:24
All right, I'm going to, all right, now we're out of here.
03:25
Good talking.
03:26
All right, yeah.
03:26
Thank you guys so much.
03:28
Take care.
