"He had a lot to say," King said of her infamous interview. Gayle King hosts 'CBS This Morning.'
Transcript
00:00It's been weeks and people are still talking about your R. Kelly interview.
00:04What do you make of all the response you have?
00:06Everyone from Reese Witherspoon to SNL doing a spoof of it.
00:10What do you make of it all?
00:11Let me just say this.
00:12I never thought when I sat down with R. Kelly that it was going to end that way,
00:16that we would still be talking about it.
00:18But, you know, I think for him it was the first time that he had a chance to say anything after that documentary.
00:24He had a lot of feelings that he wanted to share.
00:27And I think that he had a lot to say, and he did.
00:32And he did.
00:33You've had so many high-profile interviews recently.
00:36Who do you hope to sit down with next?
00:38Oh, God.
00:39I don't want to say because I don't want to jinx it.
00:43But I'm working on something, but I don't want to jinx it.
00:46We had big news today with Julian Assange.
00:49What do you make of all that?
00:51And do you think he'll get a fair trial in the U.S.?
00:53I don't know.
00:54But, you know, it was sort of shocking to see Julian Assange that way.
00:59You know, we're so used to seeing him with the short white hair.
01:02And so when you saw him being physically, physically dragged and looking considerably older than 47 years,
01:08it was actually kind of shocking.
01:10Yeah, absolutely.
01:11And switching gears a little bit, do you think that Trump will win the re-election?
01:15You know, the American people will decide who's going to be our next president.
01:23They will decide that.
01:24I make no predictions about how that's going to go.
01:26They will decide.
01:27And we will get the president that we deserve because everybody gets the right to vote.
01:32With so many Democratic candidates throwing their hat in the ring,
01:35what would you think of Oprah possibly, you know, throwing her hat in there as well?
01:40Don't get me started about that.
01:42It's been very clear.
01:42I think Oprah would be a great candidate, but I have been forbidden to even mention it anymore.
01:48You know, she was speaking yesterday at the Women in the World Conference, Tina Brown's conference.
01:53The speech was so good.
01:54And I said to her, you have to stop giving speeches like that if you don't intend to run for president.
02:00You know, she just comes out and she talks so naturally.
02:03She talks so beautifully.
02:04You know, the thing about Oprah is she's a great connector.
02:07And I think everybody in the room felt it.
02:09And afterwards, everybody kept saying to me, is she going to run?
02:11Is she going to run?
02:12Is she going to run?
02:13Oprah says to me many times, the only way I'm running is if I get a call from Jesus.
02:18And I said to her, Jesus has called me.
02:21What should I tell him?
02:22So we will see.
02:23I love that.
02:24Thank you so much.
