00:00I want to add you now something about these references, shining, to be the best cameo of the year.
00:06How do you think, Disney, about these kind of references?
00:09How do you manage to put them in movies?
00:12All of us that work on the film, we are lovers of cinema.
00:15We are lovers of film.
00:16And there's something that I think about the world of Zootropolis that audiences want that as well.
00:21They're looking for those Easter eggs.
00:23They're looking for those homages.
00:24You know, in the first film, we had this Godfather reference, and people really enjoyed that.
00:28I think there is something sort of inherent to this world that you want in.
00:31I will say that 700 people work on these films.
00:35Every single one of them can throw an idea in there.
00:37So even now, as I'm watching the movie now, I will find new things that I did not know were in the movie, and they keep surprising me.
00:45I think we have a lot of people that love movies, and there's just a lot of very imaginative people that want to put little Easter eggs in throughout.
00:50Something you said a few months ago, you wanted to come back to the traditional animation, to Disney animation.
00:56How is it going?
00:57I mean, why did you make this?
00:59There's something about hand-drawn animation that's so tactile.
01:03I mean, you really feel the artists, you know, moving characters around.
01:07Something that a lot of people don't know is that all of our films, even our CG films, start with hands on paper.
01:12We begin with, you know, artists going by hand and starting all those things.
01:16I can't get into specifics, but I will say there's a number of projects that are being worked on right now,
01:21in different forms, that allow our hand-drawn artists to really have some fun.
01:25I will say that I'm always constantly impressed.
01:27I am the worst artist on the planet.
01:30Like, no matter what I do, it's terrible.
01:32And so when I can see someone not only make beautiful drawings, but then make those drawings come to life and emote and make you cry, or they dance, or they fill you with joy, it's just this magic.
01:43I want to ask you something about this movie, well, this franchise, because now it's a TV show.
01:49Yeah, yeah.
01:50Why does it resonate so much in all the world, not just in the U.S., not in Europe, in kids, in the halls?
01:56Yeah.
01:56Why so transgenerational?
01:58There's something about this world of animals that allows so many people to read their own stories into these animals, right?
02:05So something we try really hard to do, again, 700 people working very hard.
02:09These 700 people are from all around the world, by the way.
02:11So there's something like 25 different countries represented in our crew that works on this film, of all different ages.
02:16And a lot of us have older parents, or we have little kids, and so there's a full range of ages.
02:21But I think we really try hard to hold a mirror up to human nature in these stories.
02:27And because we do that, and we try to do that in a way that feels like it encompasses everyone, regardless of what your upbringing is, that there's something for you in this movie,
02:35I think that's what makes it entertaining.
02:37Sometimes we're saying, this is something to celebrate.
02:39Sometimes we're saying, this is ridiculous.
02:41And sometimes we're saying, here's how my parents talk to me, and that makes me crazy sometimes, you know?
02:45And this is us making mistakes.
02:47And then there's some animals that are just inherently fun to watch.
02:50You know, we did a research trip to Africa, and there's this animal called a wildebeest.
02:54It's also called a gnu.
02:55And they're super dumb.
02:56They're the dumbest creatures on the planet.
02:58You put them into any shot, and it's just, you're having a great time.
03:01So we go to this gal, and they're the ones, like, licking the ice and getting their tongue stuck.
03:05Like, that's a wildebeest.
03:06So there's something about animals that people just, I don't know, there's just this inherent entertainment to them.
