00:03The first thing I want to say, congratulations. The show is amazing.
00:07You know, you don't can really imagine how much I love it. So that's great.
00:12I would like to start with you, Malakai, because I want to ask you about your physical preparation.
00:18You already had to do it for season one, but has it changed in any way?
00:23Or how has it been the process of preparing yourself for boxing?
00:26I think it's one thing kind of getting into shape. It's another thing staying in shape and maintaining it.
00:32And, you know, there was a lot of dessert around on set that I had to kind of discipline myself not to eat.
00:38And yeah, just kind of honestly, I really love it.
00:44I really enjoy the physical aspect of it. So it's not something that I could complain about.
00:47But I guess it did start to get challenging kind of maintaining the routine of training because I started boxing training.
00:56I think maybe a month and a half before we started filming season one.
01:00But in every moment that I could, I was continuing it.
01:03You know, they built a ring just next to the set so that we could go and practice in between scenes.
01:09And so, yeah, I guess if anything, as much as I enjoyed it, there did start to become like a kind of physical.
01:15Some days, like, kind of like, okay, like back in here again.
01:20Okay, let's go again. Let's go again.
01:22Knowing that the end is in sight.
01:25You know, there's a thing about seeing the finish line and slowing down sometimes.
01:28But you've got to keep going. You've got to run through.
01:31But it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it.
01:33That's a great mentality, actually.
01:36Yeah, I thought that. I was like, that's such a good thing to say.
01:41In your case, Erin, I want to ask you about Mary, about all these changes that the 40 Elephants are going through in the second season.
01:49We're not going to spoil anything, even though it's a real story.
01:53But what can you tell me about it?
01:56Which role is she going to play in the second season with all these changes in the organization?
02:01So she's essentially bringing the band back together.
02:04Like, I think she's had a real horrible, horrible grind to a halt at the end of season one.
02:13And involuntarily, she's had to just stop and reassess where she's at, how she's got there and how to fix it, essentially.
02:21Because I think what, for all the mistakes she makes, what I love about Mary is that she really, really does care about people.
02:32And she, when she falls for someone, like whether that's romantic or platonic, she will, she dives in and she wants the best for them.
02:41Um, so what we witness in season two is her essentially going, no, these women are me.
02:48I am them.
02:49We are the 40 Elephants.
02:51And there is no team without all of us.
02:55So it's her recognizing that, bringing them together in any way she can.
02:59And, like, really, really kind of, like, giving them their moment, like, individually about going, you are really, really incredible.
03:07And I've never said that.
03:09Like, it's, it's really lovely to, to witness, to, to be able to have those moments individually with every one of those women.
03:17Not just because I love them all individually as human beings, but to see them and their characters have their moment was really special.
03:23Yeah, it's a really beautiful mission, what she has in the second, in the season.
03:28Uh, something I love about this show is how, even if it talks about fighting, boxing, etc., every character has their own inner fights.
03:38They are fighting a lot.
03:39They struggle a lot.
03:41So what are Hezekiah and Mary fighting for in this second season?
03:45I think Hezekiah is fighting for, or fighting towards the light again.
03:51I think he's in a dark space.
03:53And I think he's trying to, I don't think anyone actually wants to be in a dark space.
03:58I don't think that's, like, a general thing.
04:01Even if we do find confidence in it sometimes, I think everyone would rather be in the light.
04:06But I think Hezekiah is in a particularly challenging point in his life where he's, like, he just doesn't know how to get back there.
04:13And I think that's probably his biggest fight is just getting back to a space where he can essentially love freely again.
04:21I think Mary is fighting for forgiveness, essentially.
04:29Like, she knows the mistakes she made.
04:32But she's also fighting for, like, the recognition of her growth.
04:36Because she's also, like, she's not getting sappy about it.
04:40And she's not, like, she's not really, like, on her knees begging.
04:46She's just like, look, I've said it how it is.
04:48Let's all move on.
04:50Like, she just, like, she wants the recognition that she is trying, as we all are, and that we can all move forward together.
04:58But, again, like, you kind of have to witness her navigate people's time and just kind of go, okay, I have no control here, which is really difficult for her.
