00:00Ellen DeGeneres is signing off of Daytime.
00:03The talk show host spoke to The Hollywood Reporter,
00:05saying that The Ellen Show's upcoming 19th season will be its last.
00:09Discussing the move publicly for the first time, she told THR,
00:13when you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged.
00:16And as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it's just not a challenge anymore.
00:20The decision which fell to DeGeneres is said to have been several years in the making,
00:24saying, I was going to stop after season 16.
00:27That was going to be my last season.
00:29They wanted to sign for four more years.
00:31And adding, that's been the plan all along.
00:34And everyone kept saying, even when I signed, you know, that's going to be 19.
00:38Don't you want to just go to 20? It's a good number.
00:40So is 19.
00:42Throughout the years, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been widely praised for delivering a mid-date jolt of joy
00:46with its mix of dancing, games, nearly $70 million in charitable donations,
00:52and more than $300 million in audience giveaways.
00:55However, despite many successful years of The Ellen Show under her belt,
00:58this past year was not without its own controversy.
01:01The show was hit with toxic workplace allegations in a July 2020 BuzzFeed News expose,
01:07which prompted an internal investigation and the dismissal of key executives.
01:11Of the allegations, the host said,
01:12it, quote, destroyed me, but added, it was not the reason for her stepping down from daytime.
01:17It almost impacted the show.
01:19It was very hurtful to me.
01:20I mean, very.
01:21But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn't have come back this season.
01:25DeGeneres also has plans to speak to her fans more in-depth about her departure.
01:30The host is set to sit down with longtime pal and daytime predecessor Oprah Winfrey
01:34to discuss the news on Ellen's May 13th show.
