00:11royal drama series The Crown. Bonham Carter, who plays Princess Margaret in seasons 3 and 4,
00:17has joined a growing number of people calling on Netflix to distinguish its royal drama
00:21from factual history. Speaking on a newly released episode of an official podcast for the show,
00:26she claimed there was an important distinction to make between, quote,
00:30our version of the events depicted and the version. She says it's dramatized. I do feel very strongly
00:36because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, hang on guys, this is not a drama doc.
00:41We're making a drama. So they are two different entities. The dramatization on The Crown has always
00:46been controversial since the series began in 2016, although the latest season has sparked the most
00:52headlines so far, mostly for its depiction of the breakdown of the marriage of Prince Charles
00:56and Princess Diana. The show has even been accused of unfairly painting Charles as the villain
01:01by Buckingham Palace's former press secretary. Over the weekend, UK culture secretary Oliver
01:06Dowden called on Netflix to add a health warning, making it clear that it was a drama, telling the
01:11Mail on Sunday, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake
01:16fiction for fact. While Netflix has yet to comment on the controversy, a spokesperson for the streamer did
01:22note that it had already been widely reported that The Crown was a drama based on real life
