Interview with James McAvoy and Writer / Director: James Watkins
Transcript
00:00I don't want to have to compare myself to another actor or another narrative as well,
00:05where the narrative was slightly different.
00:06Sometimes it's the same when you read the book before you make the movie.
00:10You'll go like, but they did this in the book.
00:11And I've been with so many writers and directors.
00:13We're like, yeah, but this is what happened in the book.
00:15And the writer and directors are going like, I don't give a fuck.
00:18This is what we're doing in the fucking movie.
00:20Did you experience that with It?
00:22Was it a similar sort of thing?
00:23I feel like It was actually pretty faithful to the book.
00:26But Andy was really lovingly transported the book, I think, at most points.
00:34I remember the turtle.
00:35Do you know the book?
00:36I do.
00:37I love the book.
00:38It's one of my favorites.
00:39It's a masterpiece.
00:40The turtle is such a sort of thing that keeps coming to them.
00:43And they keep just talking about the turtle.
00:44And the turtle can't save us and all that.
00:46And I kept trying to put the turtle into the movie at every opportunity.
00:50And Andy was so kind and so nice.
00:52He never shot me down.
00:53But whenever I put the turtle in, I think he was just thinking,
00:56I'm going to be cutting that out of the movie.
01:02That's awesome.
