'Past Lives' star Teo Yoo shares who had the most emotional reaction to the film, what the audience reaction has meant overall and more at the 2024 Oscars.
Transcript
00:00When I watched Past Lives, I just sobbed and cried.
00:03I had such an emotional reaction to it.
00:05Is that what most people tell you when they say they watched the film?
00:08Or how do they say that they reacted to it?
00:11Not most people. I think all the people.
00:14It's just so wonderful to have teenagers as well as couples
00:19that have been together for over 30 years come to us
00:22and talk about how that film about love has affected them.
00:28So I'm just glad that it tells this universal story,
00:33bridging gaps over cultures and ages.
00:36When Greta was on our Actress Roundtable,
00:39she said that her mom had a really emotional reaction to the film.
00:42Is there someone in your life that had an emotional reaction to the film when they watched it?
00:47Yes, my dad.
00:50My parents, but my dad, he's at that age where he gets very sentimental and emotional.
00:56We saw it together in Berlin at the festival.
01:00And what that film meant to him personally,
01:04but also I think he was partially crying for himself, partially crying for his son.
01:10So that was a very happy moment.
01:13It's been a long awards season and here we are now at the Oscars.
01:16What's been the highlight of your awards season journey with Past Lives?
01:20The highlight of the awards season journey?
01:24I'd say the experience and just being so grateful that as a kind of international actor,
01:33because I'm from Europe, but my base is in South Korea,
01:38and breaking into the American market and getting introduced to American audiences with such a beautiful film,
01:44it's just a career trajectory that every actor can just dream of.
01:48So for that, I'm really, really grateful.
01:51Who's one new friend you made this awards season?
01:54Somebody you met along the awards trail and became friends with?
01:59Jeffrey Wright and I have been texting back and forth.
02:02He's kind of an acting role model of mine ever since Basquiat and Angels of America.
02:09I watched it all in my student.
02:12I'm a student of his work, and I was so happy for him to win so many awards,
02:17and we'll see what's going to happen.
02:20And what are you going to do tomorrow after this is all over and you can finally take a break?
02:23I'm flying back to Vancouver because I'm working on the show at the moment.

02:34So you're right back to work. I love it.

02:48And yeah, it's a little bit around the Korean theme.
02:52So I play like a NIS agent out of Korea.
02:56And yeah, it's fun, action, spy.
03:00What's it been like working with Noah so far?
03:03Oh, it's been a learning experience.
03:05Noah is such a natural leader.
03:07He's also the EP on the show.
03:10Yeah, I'm just watching him and I'm flabbergasted.
03:13He's going to be huge.
