Transcript
00:00I'm a grown-up now, Bernardo. I'm going to think for myself.
00:06Tony, we need you if we're going to work.
00:11The Oscar race is heating up, as more members of the press are seeing Steven Spielberg's
00:15West Side Story ahead of its release in theaters on December 10th.
00:19Awards buzz is building for the remake of the 1961 film.
00:22That movie took home 10 Oscars in 1962, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for George
00:28Chakiris, and Best Supporting Actress for Rita Moreno, who returns in the 2021 film as
00:33the new character Valentina.
00:35The Hollywood Reporters Awards analyst Scott Feinberg recently added the Spielberg film
00:39and many of its stars to his ongoing Feinberg forecast of potential Oscar nominees for 2022.
00:44When we spoke to the cast all about the movie, we asked them for their reactions to being
00:48considered Oscar frontrunners.
00:50She's not breathing currently.
00:51I just flatlined for a second.
00:53I had instant tears in my eyes.
00:56I got to call my agent, I guess.
00:58Ew!
01:02No, I don't.
01:03Oh my God.
01:04I don't know.
01:05It makes me feel like the Mr. Krabs meme where he's like, that's how I feel.
01:09Any time you even think there's a possibility that you could be recognized, it's not real.
01:17Exactly.
01:18You know, I think this is one of those crazy dreamlike opportunities where it's like, wow.
01:26Just even having the potential for your work to be seen and recognized.
01:30Like, that's the win.
01:31Yeah.
01:32It's not about like, in my opinion, for me, I can only speak for myself.
01:36Like, it's not about whether the nomination comes through or any of that.
01:41It's just like, oh my God.
01:43We both, we've all worked so hard for so long to even get the opportunity for the work to
01:48be seen.
01:49Like, I'm good with that.
01:51Yeah.
01:52Doing something that could be submitted for consideration.
01:54I mean, because most people in the world don't even get that close.
01:57Nah, girl.
01:58So, so that's.
01:59Thanks for sharing.
02:00Yeah.
02:01And that's very cool.
02:02Thanks, Feinberg forecast.
02:03It turns out Maria actress Rachel Zegler may have manifested this moment.
02:07Back in 2018, she posted this photo on Instagram, posing with an Oscars promotional setup she
02:12saw while on a school choir trip to Walt Disney World.
02:15It was Oscar Sunday the week that I was there, I think.
02:18And oddly enough, I had my first in-person audition for Cindy Tolan the day before I went
02:24on that trip.
02:25Wow.
02:26To Disney.
02:27I went with my school for a choir trip.
02:28We sang in the park and it was really, really fun.
02:31But we just, we were all joking around about, you know, Rachel auditioned for a Spielberg
02:36movie.
02:37Rachel, take a picture next to the Oscar.
02:39It's so funny.
02:40Here we are.
02:42I booked it.
02:44Look at how art imitates life.
02:46Yeah.
02:47Along with Ariana DeBose, who portrays Anita in the new film, Feinberg also listed Moreno
02:51as a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress, the award she took home in 1962 for her take
02:56on Anita.
02:57A 2022 nomination for Moreno would be record-breaking as it would make her the oldest nominee for
03:02a competitive Oscar at age 90.
03:04While the legendary actress says she doesn't want to think about whether she'll get nominated,
03:08she does predict recognition for the film's young stars.
03:11If there was going to be awards, there are going to be awards, I know it.
03:15But I think there are some that are just insanely worthy, so we'll see.
