Executive producer Bradley Bell details how the CBS soap opera will go back into production Wednesday, from masks on set to actors' real-life partners serving as "love-scene doubles."
Transcript
00:00CBS's daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful will resume filming on Wednesday after being
00:05shut down for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the show's EP and head writer
00:10is telling The Hollywood Reporter that they're ready to go.
00:13Bradley Bell spoke to THR on Tuesday afternoon as the show gets ready to return to filming
00:17about how the long-running soap will abide to safety guidelines amid the coronavirus
00:21pandemic, saying that they've been preparing for this close to a month and a half now.
00:26We knew the day would come, so we've been modifying our spaces, modifying our studio, our booth,
00:31staying up to date on what the most important health and safety protocols are.
00:35In terms of what exactly those modifications are, Bell notes that there will be frequent COVID-19
00:40testing, saying actors will be tested at least once a week, maybe multiple times a week.
00:44All production personnel will be tested on Mondays and will be filming Tuesday through Friday.
00:49In addition, he notes that they have spread out production people, so they're at least
00:52six feet apart and divided by plexiglass.
00:56In terms of filming those intimate and close-up contact scenes, which daytime dramas are known for,
01:01Bell says they're relying on the tricks of the business, specifying,
01:04Actors will shoot eight feet apart, following all safety standards, but use the tricks of the
01:08business. We'll shoot one side of the couple in a romantic scene alone in the room,
01:13but looking at a spot very close to them, and then shoot the other side alone.
01:16When we edit it together, it'll look like they're nose-to-nose.
01:19Bell adds that production is working closely with SAG-AFTRA to make sure they meet all standards
01:24and are being extremely cautious on every level.
01:27In terms of how his actors feel to get back to work, he notes they feel excited and eager.
01:31They've been waiting for the world to open up, and now that restaurants are able to function,
01:35and salons and businesses of all types are able to go back,
01:38if they meet safety regulations, we feel we're safe to go.
