00:00Hello?
00:02I'm sorry, I got ahead of myself.
00:05Hi there, are you on the table?
00:06I wonder if you'd mind taking a brief survey.
00:09Who is that?
00:11Severance's Britt Lauer is opening up about her first audition for the Emmy-nominated Apple TV Plus series.
00:17The actress told THR that when her agent sent her the script for the Severance pilot
00:21and encouraged her to audition for the lead role of Helly R in the summer of 2019,
00:26she made it clear how slim her chances of landing the part were.
00:30She said her agent told her,
00:31it's a real long shot, but we think you're right for this role and we need you to make a self-tape.
00:35She accepted the likelihood of rejection and sent in the tape, which was shared with THR.
00:41What's the first question?
00:42First name will do.
00:47She filmed the first scene of the pilot in which Helly wakes up in a conference room
00:51with no idea how she got there in her bathroom of her Los Angeles house.
00:55She asked a friend to read the lines spoken by Adam Scott's character, Mark S.
00:59Lauer noted,
01:00Lauer, who was an accomplished athlete in high school, gave such a physical performance within the space
01:14that she left black shoe marks on her white door.
01:17I don't live in that house anymore, but I left those marks for a while because they reminded me of the special time I got to be Helly for the day.
01:30The tape ended up getting her an in-person callback with Severin's creators, Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson,
01:36where she eventually landed the role, which this year earned her an Emmy nomination,
01:40one of 27 garnered by the Apple TV Plus series.
