The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal that 'Boardwalk Empire' creator Terence Winter, who was poised to write and serve as showrunner on 'The Batman' TV spinoff, has departed the series.

00:00We know a TV spinoff of the forthcoming film The Batman is in the works at HBO Max,
00:04but now there's already been a switch-up behind the scenes.
00:08The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal that Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter,
00:12who was poised to write and serve as showrunner on the Batman TV spinoff,
00:16has departed the series.
00:18Sources say creative differences are to blame for the split,
00:20as Winter's vision for the drama did not match what Matt Reeves and other producers had in mind.
00:25A search is underway for a new showrunner for the still-untitled drama
00:28that has been going by the working title of Gotham Central.
00:31HBO Max and studio Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
00:34The drama set in the world Reeves created for the Batman feature film
00:37was picked up straight to series in July
00:39and designed as a companion show to go alongside the movie.
00:42The show will build upon the film's examination of corruption in Gotham City
00:46and ultimately launch a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.
00:50It's unclear if The Batman stars Robert Pattinson and Jeffrey Wright
00:53will appear in the HBO Max offshoot.
00:55The Batman is currently slated for a theatrical bow on March 4, 2022.
