Massive flames engulfed several high-rise buildings in Hong Kong's Tai Po district on Wednesday, killing dozens of people and leaving multiple others in a critical condition, as seen in dramatic drone footage.

Video shows thick smoke billowing from the residential towers as fire crews and emergency responders rushed to the scene. Some locals are seen receiving medical treatment while concerned locals watch on.

The authorities have reported that 83 people have died, including 11 firefighters, and that at least 76 people have been critically injured.

The blaze broke out at Wang Fuk Court around 2:51 PM local time (6:51 AM GMT). The complex reportedly comprises 2,000 units across eight blocks, with over 4,600 residents.

Authorities have since upgraded the fire to a Level 5 alert, its highest level, and have set up temporary shelters.
