Hong Kong fire authorities said they are “trying their best” to save lives as a massive blaze continues to tear through the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po. Deputy Fire Services Director Wong Ka Wing said rescue efforts have been severely hindered by extreme heat, collapsed scaffolding, thick smoke, and narrow access points. The fire, which began Wednesday, has killed at least 55 people and left nearly 300 missing as firefighters work to reach residents believed trapped in upper floors. Police have searched the maintenance company responsible for the estate as authorities investigate the cause of the deadly blaze.
