00:01This is amazing.
00:03Robin and BJ are ready for their next big adventure,
00:07trading mountain life in North Carolina for Waterfront Pensacola.
00:12The water.
00:13I mean, it's right here.
00:15He wants a place with enough room for the boat he intends to buy.
00:19A boat can definitely fit here.
00:21And turnkey so he doesn't have to waste free time on projects.
00:25The new granite countertops.
00:27Oh, my God.
00:28Throughout.
00:29All new cabinets.
00:32She's prioritizing low price and character.
00:35OK, this has the Robin charm.
00:37And she's willing to put up with headaches to get it.
00:40This has got a lot of potential.
00:42But I think for safety purposes it screams, tear me down.
00:45I don't agree.
00:58You rented the boat for today, right?
01:02Yeah.
01:03OK.
01:04I'm a data quality professional.
01:05And I am a senior tax specialist.
01:07I think like all true love tales, we met in a bar.
01:11I think the part that really made it click was that my real name is Bruce Wayne.
01:17And her name is Robin.
01:19So we are Batman and Robin.
01:21We have been together for 18 years and married 17.
01:26Maybe save some snacks for the boat though.
01:28OK.
01:29I'm done snacking.
01:30We both enjoy being unique in our own ways.
01:34Yeah.
01:35Neither of us really wanted to have children.
01:37We've had dogs the entire time and dogs you can pick up and move.
01:40And there was a time where we moved into a camper and then we traveled for three and a half years.
01:46We fly by the seat of our pants all the time.
01:48So buying a home or selling a home or anything like that moving doesn't really affect us.
01:53We almost decide overnight what we're going to do.
01:55Yeah.
01:56What we're going to catch out here is totally different from what we're used to catching back home in North Carolina.
02:01We currently live in the beautiful little mountain town of Murphy, North Carolina.
02:06And we are looking to now move to Pensacola, Florida.
02:11This is super exciting for the next adventure that we're taking together.
02:15Because when I was a kid, I would go almost every other weekend to go deep sea fishing.
02:20Buying a house this close to the water to me really makes me feel like I've made it.
02:25We're going to need to go up closer to 250 in order to get as close to the water as we want to be.
02:31You know, you want to be close to the beach, but I want to be close to boat ramps.
02:35I don't want to buy a house where then I have to pay to keep the boat at a marina somewhere.
02:40I would love a space to park the boat at the house.
02:43If we go to the max of your budget and we want to spend $20,000 to $30,000 on a boat, I don't know that those two things exist in my world.
02:55At a higher price point, a boat is not going to be so easily considered.
03:02So at $200,000, we've got a great boat cushion budget and we've got a great going out and adventuring budget.
03:11I would love to have the charm and coziness of an older home.
03:17I'm fine with the coastal cottage bungalow vibe that has those like very unique kind of charming built-ins, original hardwood floors.
03:28The older homes around here, you know, they don't bring me that happiness.
03:33When I grew up in homes, they were always older.
03:38They needed work.
03:40And so now that I'm an adult, I want to spend my money on new and clean.
03:46For a kitchen, I really am looking for bright colored cabinets and maybe a newer stone looking countertop.
03:55We're looking for three bedrooms.
03:56That is true.
03:57We both work remotely.
03:58So you need an office to work in.
04:00But then we need a place for other people to stay.
04:03Yeah.
04:04And the main takeaway from having lived in the camper and traveling for three and a half years was the one bath.
04:10We need two baths.
04:12I'm ready for all of it.
04:14I'm ready for the fishing.
04:15I'm ready for the boating.
04:17We're only in our late 30s, but we enjoy shuffleboard.
04:21We eat dinner at four, maybe five o'clock.
04:23If I can go to the bingos that are happening.
04:26Robin loves bingo.
04:29I'm very excited about that.
04:34This one is $2.50.
04:37It's three bedrooms, two and a half baths.
04:41I mean, that's great.
04:43I mean, that is great.
04:44Two and a half bathrooms when we have visitors.
04:47But like 90% of the time, it's just us.
04:50So I don't know if it's worth the extra spend.
04:54Okay.
04:55It's got that flat Florida house vibe.
04:59Right.
05:00This is nice.
05:01The covered parking is definitely nice.
05:03Yes.
05:04You can definitely park a boat here.
05:06There's plenty of space.
05:07Hey, guys.
05:08Nice to meet you, sir.
05:09It was good.
05:10Hi.
05:11Good to meet you guys.
05:12You too.
05:13Well, welcome to Pensacola.
05:14Yeah.
05:15This area is called Navy Point.
05:16And it's about five minutes to a boat dock, which I know is important.
05:20That's what I'm looking for.
05:21Yep.
05:22This house has been fully renovated.
05:24Okay.
05:25Let's take a look.
05:26Yeah.
05:27The market in Pensacola right now is starting to uptick.
05:30We're starting to see a huge influx of people coming in from other states, particularly
05:34like California, Illinois, Indiana.
05:36That's why if we find a house that BJ and Robin really like, we're going to have to move
05:40pretty quickly to keep them from losing it.
05:43Oh, wow.
05:44Oh, man.
05:45As you can see, all new vinyl floors throughout.
05:48This is nice.
05:50The smooth ceiling and recessed lighting.
05:53I love it.
05:54I'm not a big light girl.
05:55Like, I want there to be like, but this is all or nothing.
05:59To me, this is...
06:00They're dimmable.
06:01I do like these little squatty windows.
06:02Like, that's a little bit of a...
06:04There you go.
06:05That has cuteness, right?
06:06Yeah.
06:07As you can see, they made a nice little bar area here.
06:10The new granite countertops.
06:11Oh, my God.
06:12Throughout.
06:13All new cabinets.
06:15I love the bar seating.
06:17I am not seeing a dishwasher.
06:19The older homes, they didn't usually have a place for the dishwasher and they did not
06:22add one.
06:23And they just didn't add it in.
06:24Yeah.
06:25Okay.
06:26So it would be something you could add.
06:27Okay.
06:28All right.
06:29Let's take a look at the bedrooms.
06:30I think you'll like this one especially.
06:31It is enormous.
06:32You could have a full bed here and an office.
06:35But you know, I don't really like to feel like I'm working in a bedroom.
06:38This is too big for an office.
06:40I feel like I'm echo, echo when I'm on my work calls.
06:43But a good rug will help soften that.
06:47This is the main bathroom.
06:49Oh, my gosh.
06:50Can we go in there?
06:51And as you can see, it's been completely redone.
06:52Look at this.
06:53And it is huge.
06:55I don't know that I ever thought we would be able to get a house that has this nice
06:59of a bathroom.
07:00It's not.
07:01It's very well done.
07:02Let's take a look at the primary.
07:04It's smaller, but it's still a decent sized bedroom.
07:07We only can use a king size bed.
07:10I love Robin, but we enjoy our space.
07:12You need your space.
07:13Understood.
07:14Not sure.
07:15The bed could probably go on that wall.
07:16That's a nice long wall.
07:17It would fit.
07:18And you could still have easy access to the bathroom.
07:20Right.
07:21I think coming from there would probably work.
07:22A little wigwag, zigzag.
07:23So over here is the half bath en suite.
07:25Okay.
07:26Oh, so half bath.
07:27Yeah.
07:28It's not not special, but it's not, you know, knock yourself.
07:31It's still nice finishes, but I'm not a huge fan that there's no shower in the primary.
07:37Right.
07:38So we're going to have to go outside to see the rest of the house.
07:43I think you guys are going to be a little surprised with this space.
07:47Holy moly.
07:48The house is a three bedroom, but this is detached.
07:52It's like a mother-in-law suite.
07:54It has its own bathroom and everything else.
07:57As you can see, a little walk-in shower, but it's a good size.
08:00Plenty of room in here.
08:01So if you had family down, you could completely have them.
08:04They'd have their own space completely.
08:05Yeah.
08:06Is there, is the front yard your only yard here?
08:10You do have the side yard.
08:12So eventually what I would recommend is that you kind of fence that off.
08:16This is turn key.
08:18No backyard.
08:19250.
08:20I think the search continues.
08:25So they see a house at Robin's price, but BJ's not sold.
08:29The screams, tear me down.
08:37It is a scorcher today.
08:39The humidity is off the chain.
08:41Yeah.
08:42When you're out on the boat and it's a scorcher, you just jump in the water and cool off.
08:45Jump in and cool off.
08:46Exactly.
08:47I'm excited about this house.
08:48It's even under my budget at 198.
08:51So I think it should be right here around this corner.
08:54Look at that adorable porch.
08:59This house is so adorable.
09:02This is nice and paved and long.
09:04A boat can definitely fit here.
09:06Yeah.
09:07This has got a lot of potential.
09:09But I can, just judging by the porch, I can see where this house is going.
09:12For safety purposes, it screams, tear me down.
09:15I don't agree.
09:17Hey guys.
09:18I am excited.
09:19So first impressions.
09:20I love the porch.
09:22You know, it needs a little paint.
09:24I think the white is nice.
09:25It's just the trim.
09:26I can take that project on.
09:28Okay.
09:29Let's take a look inside.
09:31Look at these original hardwoods.
09:33Oh my gosh.
09:34Look how cute this is.
09:37The house was built in 1950 and these are the original hardwood floors from 1950.
09:42It's a really long time.
09:43They need to be cleaned, but they're in great shape.
09:46I hear you.
09:47I think just the white walls I'm okay with.
09:50You know, it just makes a room feel bigger to me.
09:52I'm going to say no because, you know, I want to keep with the coastal maybe a very light blue and then just do some natural wood kind of furniture, all white.
10:05Let's look over here.
10:06There's a great bonus space that I think you're going to like.
10:09This was originally a garage.
10:11It could be a nice place to entertain and have your friends over and family over as well.
10:15You're right.
10:16I mean, some paint, a rug.
10:18It needs a little love.
10:20Let's look at the kitchen.
10:22You know, it looks like they tried to do some stuff, maybe the easy way.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Right.
10:29This is peel and stick and it's coming off the countertops here.
10:32Yeah.
10:33It worries me about who did the remodeling that has been done.
10:37I hear what you're saying, but also you have to remember price point.
10:40It's also going to help get you that boat as well.
10:43When Robin gets her mind set on something and gets passionate and excited about certain things,
10:49it's really hard to get her to see a different point of view.
10:54Look how big this is.
10:57Oh, yeah.
10:58It is a big backyard.
10:59Oh, man.
11:00The trees probably need a little bit of trim back.
11:02Yeah.
11:03But I do, I like the size.
11:04I mean, the size of this tree is great.
11:06It's got a brand new HVAC system.
11:08Okay.
11:09It was just recently installed.
11:10Yep.
11:11The roof is newer.
11:12That's always good.
11:13It's still in good shape.
11:15It's plenty of windows, well lit.
11:17It does feel very small though.
11:19You know, but a small desk and then like a Murphy bed.
11:23There's still enough space.
11:25All right.
11:26There's another bedroom right over here.
11:27This one is a touch bigger than the last one.
11:29Gotcha.
11:30But you could use any one of these as the primary.
11:32All right.
11:33That'd be up to you.
11:34Because it's three bedroom, one bath.
11:36We'll discuss that.
11:37So none of them are an ensuite.
11:39These rooms feel smaller than some of the other houses we've looked at.
11:43Especially once you put a bed.
11:44And we do want a king.
11:46Yeah.
11:47So that's something I've got to really think about.
11:50I think the other room would probably be the better place to put the bed.
11:54Gotcha.
11:56Oh, I'm loving this original tile, but it's got so much damage.
12:01This looks like an original porcelain tub.
12:03And the tile actually around the shower is not bad.
12:07I mean, of course, I think it's great.
12:11I love the charm.
12:13The, you know, things like the real wood floors and some of the charm and some of the window dressings and things like that, that an older home like this comes with.
12:22It's just kind of hard to find.
12:23Right.
12:24This house, I know it's over 1,200 square feet, but I just don't feel the square footage is in the places where I would like it to be.
12:31I think we could make this work even with the one bath.
12:35OK.
12:36Again, because 90% of the time, it's you and me.
12:39Even when it's just the two of us.
12:41We spent three and a half years in a camper with one bathroom and it was not fun.
12:47So their agent finds another home that does have two bathrooms.
12:51But there's another stumbling block.
12:53Why are you putting this even in the universe?
12:56No.
13:01The open water is right here.
13:05I mean, this place is less than five minutes to a boat ramp.
13:10And, you know, 20 minutes either way to a beach.
13:15It's over what you want to spend.
13:17It is.
13:18I'm OK with spending a little more.
13:21Oh, that blue is so sweet.
13:26I love the Pertigo.
13:28I really can't believe it's a thousand square feet.
13:31No, it does look larger.
13:34Hey, guys.
13:35Hi.
13:36Welcome to Navy Nook.
13:37This is nice.
13:38It is nice.
13:39It's cute.
13:40It's got a reasonably new roof.
13:42The flooring and everything has been redone.
13:44A lot of new features.
13:45I do like the floor.
13:46Yeah.
13:48The fixtures are not my favorite.
13:50I can handle something like that.
13:53This area would be the dining room.
13:55It's a little small.
13:57To keep the price point and the square footage
13:59that you guys are looking for,
14:00you are going to have smaller spaces like this.
14:02It's going to be one of the compromises.
14:04Right.
14:05Gotcha.
14:06As you can see, the new stove in the kitchen,
14:08freshly painted cabinets.
14:10The two-tone is a little strange.
14:14And it's not, I mean, it's not a huge difference.
14:17Like, it's gray and then white.
14:19The nice thing with this, though,
14:20is the doors come off pretty easy,
14:22and then you could either paint the background
14:24or you could paint the doors to match.
14:25Okay.
14:26So what I'm hearing is work to be done.
14:28A little bit of work.
14:29I am not seeing a fridge or a dishwasher.
14:34And those would be a couple of negatives.
14:36We don't have a fridge.
14:38This is where the fridge would go.
14:39You can see it does have a water hookup.
14:41It's just going to float from the wall.
14:42It is.
14:43Like, maybe eventually we bust this out,
14:48make it a little bit bigger.
14:50The goal is to buy a house and just move in and live.
14:54Let's take a look.
14:55I think you guys are going to like this outside deck
14:57and everything.
14:58Oh, nice and big.
14:59Because it has a good-sized backyard.
15:00It's a nice size.
15:01I do, I do like, it seems quiet.
15:05You know, it's a nice kind of peaceful backyard.
15:09It is.
15:10A pretty quiet.
15:11So through here is the primary.
15:13What is behind the store?
15:15And yes, the laundry room is en route
15:17to the primary bedroom.
15:18I mean, it's a nice size space.
15:21But these, these are, I don't understand.
15:25They're a little different, huh?
15:27This is not that bad.
15:29And this is the primary.
15:31Okay, this has the Robin charm.
15:33Okay.
15:34This does give this house that 1940s character to me.
15:38A little bit of the cottage charm, right?
15:39Yeah, exactly.
15:40But this is, it's a little small of a primary bedroom.
15:44King bed.
15:45King bed.
15:46If, if say it comes off this, you know, accent wall, which is what I'd want.
15:49Okay, I gotcha.
15:50You're shimmying.
15:51You were feeling really ambitious, BJ.
15:53You could move that closet, but I'm not going to put that on you.
15:55Why are you putting this even in the universe?
15:57No.
15:58And over here is the primary bathroom.
16:01Holy shower bathroom.
16:03Yeah.
16:04The, the walk-in shower is huge.
16:05It's huge.
16:06We've never had a bathroom this nice.
16:07No.
16:08No.
16:09And I do love these little touches.
16:12They left the, some of the charm.
16:14If they had put a different door inside.
16:16Oh, it's a beautiful.
16:17As you can see, these are good sized rooms.
16:19Yes.
16:20How are these?
16:21I still got a little bit of your, the old eclectic charm here.
16:23Yeah, look at that up there.
16:25This would be more likely my office space.
16:28She also is a, she's always our neighborhood watch.
16:31Yeah.
16:32So when she's working, she's keeping an eye on the neighborhood out the front windows,
16:35wherever we live.
16:36Yeah.
16:37Let's see the guest bathroom.
16:39Oh.
16:40This is almost nicer than.
16:41The primary.
16:42Cause this is like real granite.
16:44It's like real stone.
16:45Yeah.
16:46Where I think in there's the laminate.
16:49And then the third bedroom.
16:50Okay.
16:51It would be a great guest space.
16:55It definitely has the charm that I was looking for.
16:59It's a little older, but it doesn't look like it needs too many large projects.
17:04It's so close to the dock.
17:06But there's some projects there's going to be landscaping.
17:10I'm so not sold on this whole floating fridge situation.
17:14Yeah.
17:15Honestly, I think that if you get a fridge in here and you get it set up,
17:18you'll find it's not as obtrusive as you think it is.
17:21With it being over budget and we're still talking projects and boat.
17:27You're just seeing dollar signs the whole time.
17:29You got a lot to think about.
17:30Yeah, we do.
17:38Thanks for having us.
17:40Yeah.
17:41This is amazing.
17:42BJ and Robin are ready to make the move to Pensacola.
17:45They're meeting with their agent, Gray, to weigh their options.
17:48So why don't we talk about the one that was move-in ready.
17:52It was priced at $250.
17:54This brand new kitchen, the huge living area that was, it all just flowed together nicely.
18:00Even though the upgrades and the renovations were great,
18:03I'm still that little weirdo that wants to see that charm and quirky kind of thing.
18:09But there were almost no projects to work on.
18:12The square footage was there, three bedrooms, two and a half baths.
18:15And we haven't really seen that very often.
18:18But that backyard was the no backyard.
18:20Non-existent.
18:21Right.
18:22And then there was that whole secondary kind of.
18:25In-law suite.
18:26I would have preferred it to all have been one.
18:28To have been connected.
18:29Yeah.
18:30So let's talk about the White House we saw that was 198.
18:34It had a lot of old charm.
18:36It did.
18:37Built in 1950.
18:38I loved seeing the ornate additions on the front porch.
18:41I did like the backyard.
18:43You could make that really nice with a nice patio and a deck back there.
18:47There was only one bathroom.
18:49You know, we probably need to put some TLC into it, but it would be rejuvenated.
18:54And we could make do with the one bath.
18:57But overall, there were so many projects in that house.
19:00I don't like that.
19:01Let's talk about the Blue Beach Cottage House that was 249.
19:06I love that blue color and the portico.
19:10The inside was...
19:11Recently renovated.
19:12Yeah.
19:13I thought you guys saw some real potential in the backyard.
19:15I think so, too.
19:17I wasn't too big of a fan that the living room and dining was kind of small.
19:22The kitchen was kind of small, too.
19:24Also, there wasn't even a refrigerator in it.
19:27And that's going to eat into that space of an already small kitchen.
19:31The primary bedroom was kind of small.
19:33Those, like, strange accordion closet doors.
19:35I really hung up on all the closet doors.
19:36We know you didn't like the doors, for sure.
19:38Right, right.
19:39We've definitely got a lot to think about.
19:41It's going to be a hard decision.
19:42I think we might have to just do, like, an oversized love seat.
20:00We chose the Blue Beach Cottage Home.
20:02It doesn't have a lot of projects for BJ, so I think he was really happy about that.
20:07Yes.
20:08And I think it has a lot of charm on its own, too, that beautiful blue color.
20:12And there's still little things throughout the house that have that charm.
20:15Is that going to fit with that door?
20:18I don't think it is.
20:20The square footage of this house is a little bit less than what I was looking for.
20:23But the way the living and dining and kitchen area are all kind of one space,
20:29that's going to still be pretty easy for entertaining when people come to visit.
20:32I think the reason I was okay going over my initial price point for this purchase was that I realized that really to get the things that we needed,
20:41we were going to have to bump up that amount.
20:45There's no dishwasher in here.
20:48Right.
20:49That is one project I'm going to ask you to kind of pop to.
20:52We can't live without a dishwasher.
20:53Right.
20:54As far as the inside goes, it really is just furnishing the house.
20:58I think our main focus is going to be outside.
21:02I bought this when we first decided to make the move, and I was like, it'll be the first thing we put in the kitchen.
21:08The next purchase is a boat, and so I'm extremely excited about that.
21:13Now that we finally own a home in Florida, it's surreal.
21:17And I think you've just always wanted a house in Florida.
21:20To be close to the water.
21:21Yeah.
21:22Like, I really want it to feel relaxing and chill vibes out here.
21:27Yeah.
