The network shouldn't expect support from original star Holly Marie Combs.
Transcript
00:00Original Charmed actress Holly Marie Combs is not happy with the CW rebooting the show.
00:05Combs starred in the former WB network drama alongside Alyssa Milano and Shannon Doherty,
00:10and later Rose McGowan. She took to Twitter to weigh in on the CW's revival, and she didn't hold back.
00:15Combs tweeted,
00:30After attempts by CBS in 2013 and last season by The CW, the latter redeveloped the Charmed reboot
00:39and ordered it to pilot this season. Produced by the team behind Jane the Virgin, the pilot is described
00:45as a fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series that centers on three sisters in a college town
00:50who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy,
00:55and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done. Last season's version was set in 1976,
01:02while the new take moving forward is contemporary and set in the present day.
01:05Last year's project was said to be connected to the original series in some fashion,
01:10which would be compelling given that original Charmed stars, including Doherty, were among those
01:14who nixed returning to the franchise. Combs also took issue with the CW's description of the show's
01:19feminist take, writing,
01:21Guess we forgot to do that the first time around. Hmph.
01:24Combs also got into a larger discussion about reboots during an exchange with the writer behind
01:28The CW's Roswell reboot, Karina McKenzie, during which she further explained her contempt
01:33for the Charmed revival. In a lengthy exchange, Combs said she took issue with the CW rebooting
01:38Charmed after the same network decided not to renew our show. She also noted that she, too,
01:43was a young writer on Charmed, and that is not reflected in her royalties or credits.
01:47So what do you think about this Charmed reboot pilot? Be sure to let me know all
01:51your thoughts in the comments. Until next time, for The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
