00:00Clarissa, you know there is nothing on TV but an endless stream of the same sitcoms,
00:04game shows and commercials.
00:06Get ready for another reboot from Nickelodeon. Sources exclusively tell The Hollywood Reporter
00:11that the cable network is in early discussions to reboot the sitcom Clarissa explains it all.
00:16Melissa Joan Hart would reprise her role as Clarissa Darling in the reboot, but this time
00:20she would play the mother of the family. Series creator Mitchell Kriegman is also in talks
00:24to return to write and executive produce. Hart will also executive produce in addition to
00:29appearing in the series.
00:31Nickelodeon declined comment because deals with both Hart and Kriegman are not done.
00:35The project, sources say, is in early development at Nickelodeon.
00:38The original series ran for five seasons from 1991 to 1994 and starred Hart as Clarissa,
00:43a teenager who spoke directly to the audience as she dealt with problems including school,
00:47boys and family. Jason Zimbler, Sean O'Neill, Elizabeth Hess and Joe O'Connor co-starred.
00:53The series was credited with being Nickelodeon's first with a female lead.
00:57Its success led to other female-centered series including The Secret World of Alex Mack and more.
01:02Kriegman revisited the show in 2015 with a novel, Things I Can't Explain. It served as a
01:07sequel and followed Clarissa in her late 20s. In a February interview with THR about her work
01:12directing ABC's The Goldberg's Heart, who went on to star in ABC's Sabrina the Teenage Witch,
01:17said she thought Clarissa would be a good reboot choice as Netflix is doing its own dark take on Sabrina.
01:23I like the way we left Sabrina, she said. I think Sabrina ended on a really great note and I don't
01:27think you want to go back and explore that. At the same time, I think Clarissa ended on a note
01:31that could be explored again because it didn't really have an ending. It sort of ended.
01:36Nickelodeon, meanwhile, also recently announced plans to revive Blue's Clues, ordering 20 episodes
01:40of the animated preschool hit with a live-action host.
01:44So are you excited for the return of Clarissa? What does she need to explain in the reboot besides what
01:48happened to Elvis, her pet alligator? What other shows from your own childhood would you like to see
01:53rebooted? Let us know in the comments. For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Lyndsey Rodrigues.
