Producer Warner Bros. TV says the role will be recast when the show returns in 2021.

00:00Ruby Rose has shockingly exited the title role on The CW's Batwoman after just one
00:14season.
00:15The surprise announcement came on Tuesday, just two days after the show's season finale.
00:20Although Rose did not give a specific reason for her departure, both the actress and producers
00:24Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions praised one another in statements announcing
00:28her exit from the series.
00:30Rose spoke out in part, saying,
00:48Batwoman made TV history as the first scripted live-action TV series to feature a lesbian
00:53superhero at the top of the call sheet.
00:55It was important to the production and openly gay producers Greg Berlanti and showrunner
00:59Caroline Dries that the part went to a member of the LGBTQ community.
01:03Batwoman was renewed for a second season in January and was set to anchor the network's
01:07Sunday night starting in early 2021.
01:10With Rose's departure, the CW series is left without a lead actress.
01:13However, Warner Bros. Television says the role will indeed be recast.
01:17In a joint statement, The CW, Warner Bros. Television, and Berlanti Productions thanked
01:21Rose for her contributions on the show, and added,
01:23The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman's second season and long-term future.
01:29And we, along with the show's talented creative team, look forward to sharing its new direction,
01:33including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community in the coming months.
