David Simon's Blown Deadline productions and Killer Films CEO Christine Vachon pledged to no longer shoot in the state as long as the law exists.

00:00After Alyssa Milano and George Takai were among the celebrities to speak out against a Georgia
00:04abortion bill, two production companies now say they won't film in the state over the legislation.
00:10On Tuesday, Georgia's Republican governor, Brian Kemp, signed what's been dubbed the
00:14heartbeat bill, as it bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as
00:19early as six weeks into a pregnancy. It does, however, include exceptions such as to save the
00:23life of the mother or for rape and incest, but only if a woman files a police report.
00:28As a result, some industry figures are calling on Hollywood to withdraw production from the state.
00:33Milano Takai and June Diane Raphael all spoke up in late March when the bill was approved in the
00:37Georgia General Assembly with a 92-78 vote. Now, Killer Films, the production company behind such
00:42movies as Vox Lux, First Reformed, and Carol is taking action. CEO Christine Vichon tweeted on
00:48Thursday morning,
00:49And The Wire and The Deuce creator David Simon, who runs
00:57blown Deadline Productions, similarly tweeted about the law,
01:01I can't ask any female member of any film production with which I'm involved to so marginalize
01:06themselves or compromise their inalienable authority over their own bodies. I must undertake
01:11production where the rights of all citizens remain intact, clarifying in a further tweet that he would
01:15not film productions in Georgia. As far as taking a stand goes, these two production companies are
01:19currently in the minority. The MPAA, which represents the five major film studios, says it is
