Julianna Margulies's recent comments on the podcast The Back Room with Andy Ostroy has garnered backlash. Learn all about her comments and people's responses on social media in this video.
00:00Juliana Margulies is facing backlash after calling out the Black and LGBTQ community's lack of support for Israel in its fight against Hamas and suggested that some were, quote, brainwashed.
00:12Margulies was on the November 21st episode of The Back Room with Andy Ostroy podcast to speak about her role on The Morning Show before the conversation shifted to anti-Semitism and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
00:24Margulies expressed her sadness that Black and LGBTQ plus people were supportive of Palestine and in her eyes were not supporting Israel in their fight against Hamas, especially as she believed Jews have supported the Black community.
00:37I'm the first person to march for Black Lives Matter. When that happened to George Floyd, I put a black screen on my Instagram like I ran to support my Black brothers and sisters.
00:46She added, when LGBTQ people are being attacked, I run. I made a commercial for same-sex marriages with my husband in 2012.
00:54Like, I am the first person to jump up when something is wrong, as I think most Jews are, because we have been persecuted from the beginning of time.
01:01The actress then had a warning for progressive young people.
01:05It's those kids who use pronouns who are spewing this anti-Semitic hate that have no idea if they stepped foot in an Islamic country.
01:12These people who want us to call them they-them or whatever they want us to call them, which I have respectfully really made a point of doing, like be whoever you want to be.
01:20It's those people that will be the first people beheaded and their heads played with a soccer ball, like a soccer ball on the field.
01:29Margulies then brought up a Black lesbian organization at Columbia University who was reported to be disinviting Zionists from a film night.
01:37I want to say to them, you fucking idiots. You don't exist. Like, you're even lower than the Jews. A, you're Black, and B, you're gay.
01:49Margulies pivoted to the civil rights movement and said that the Jews were the ones that walked side-by-side with the Blacks to fight for their rights.
01:56And now the Black community isn't embracing us and saying we stand with you the way you stood with us.
02:01Margulies' comments drew a swift and furious reaction on social media.
02:06Writing on X, Washington Post columnist Karen Attia wrote,
02:09Wish I could say that Julianna Margulies' racist rant against Black people is an outlier, but as I've said before, I've heard this same sentiment from supposedly liberal circles.
02:19Solidarity with Black people is transactional. We are supposed to be grateful charity recipients.
